A deficiency in phosphorus or potassium can lead to purple discoloration of the leaves, especially if this occurs during the flowering stage. Phosphorus deficiency is more common at low temperatures, which can exacerbate this effect. An incorrect pH level in the soil can also affect nutrient uptake, sometimes leading to purple discoloration. Additionally, other stress factors, such as overwatering or insufficient light, can cause color changes in the leaves. In summary, the purpleing of the leaves can be both a natural trait and a sign of problems in the growing environment. If genetics is not the cause and you find the purple leaves undesirable, adjusting temperature, nutrients, and pH can help improve the health of the plants.
