Ac infinity self watering bases, do I water normally first?

Does anyone have any experience with the ac infinity self watering bases?
Just need to know if I should water them normally before putting the one the bases?
And also some reassurance that my roots are touching the bottom of the pot would be great please 🙏

You need to use fabric pots for this system. You just water from above till you notice the first roots comming out of the fabric pot at the bottom. Then you can switch to the self watering bases.
