9 plants in 3 gals to much for a 4x4?

Planning on running 9 different strains in 3 gallons in a 4x4. Will this be to many plants once flowering starts? Should I not top to avoid horizontal growth? How much square footage should I allocate for a Flowering plant?

Hi, Nine plants in a 4x4 tent with 3-gallon pots can be challenging, especially during flowering. Here's a breakdown of considerations: Plant Density: Potential Issues: Nine plants can lead to overcrowding, hindering airflow, increasing the risk of pests and diseases, and potentially impacting light penetration to lower branches. Solutions: Careful spacing, strategic pruning (including topping), and defoliation can help mitigate these issues. Topping: Effects: Topping encourages lateral growth, which can be beneficial in a sea of green (SOG) setup. 1 However, in your case, it might exacerbate the density problem.   Recommendation: Consider limited topping or alternative training techniques like low-stress training (LST) to manage plant height and shape without excessive lateral growth. Flowering Space Allocation: General Guideline: Aim for at least 1 square foot per plant during flowering. However, this can vary based on strain characteristics and growing style. Your Situation: With nine plants, you might need to get creative with spacing and training to ensure each plant has adequate room. Additional Tips: Strain Selection: Choose strains known for their relatively compact growth habits. Ventilation: Ensure excellent airflow to prevent moisture buildup and support healthy growth. Monitoring: Closely monitor your plants for any signs of stress or overcrowding. Conclusion: While nine plants in a 4x4 tent with 3-gallon pots is feasible, it requires careful planning and management. Consider the potential challenges and implement strategies to optimize growth and yield. If you're unsure, starting with fewer plants might be a safer approach. Remember, every grow is unique. Experimentation and observation are key to finding what works best for you and your specific setup. Good Luck buddy.

You sure can if a variety of smoke is what your after. More plants in this situation will not yield more weed however. You’ll need to flower early if it’s a photoperiod to avoid overcrowding and proper space for maturing. The best thing to keep in mind is when you go into the flower stage your plants will more than likely double in size, so predict accordingly. If your growing auto flowers, it’s going to be a much more difficult to control.

Seems like a lot to me, depending on growing method. Sea of Green is an option. I only run 6 plants in a 8x4 in 3 gallon pots. More plants means less room for training and growth. With SCROG and/or other training methods, I can fill my tent and yield the same with fewer plants because there's more room for training. I would rather use less space and seeds/plants and train them for the same yield then use more seeds and less space.

Yeah your pot size to tent is very good but let me tell you my experience. I have two 3x3 and I used the metal coat hanger trick . Now because of impatience I generally flower mine too soon. I have 4 in my 3x3 bit I end up shoving something else in. I still never felt I had enough space. Your light affects your decision and the increase in labour. Let's say you have a bar style or a good one that covers well evenly across the canopy Zone. If I was to start again I would go for just four in 4-7 pots. Veg them longer using a Scrog or just tying down but keep canopy level . If not using net then lollypop constantly till you have 3-4 nodes on each top then Day one . Remov all fan leaves leaving the tip ones there . Fast forward to day 21 Do the same extreme fan leaf defoliation but you can leave top two or three. That should be it. Pk13/14 in week 5 and leaf tucking or strategic leaf removal. Like one covering bud sites. That should be enough for big buds with no larfe. Let's end larfe

Hey there it really depends on how large you wanna grow them. I have a 2x4 tent that I flower in and I put anywhere betweenn6 to 10 plants every run in my tent and it's half the size of your tent. I jam my plants in there and grow them small but I can harvest every 100 days. I think 9 plants in a 4x4 is pretty good spacing especially if your not gonna grow them 6 or 7 feet
