Has anyone had experience with the Photone App? If so, what was your experience? Is it accurate?

accuracy may vary greatly from one phone to another depending how good is the camera. some phones will give rather accurate result, some other phones totally funky readings

I use it, and yes it works just fine. Of course you can go spend some cash on a serious “high tech” meter that will give you a more exact reading. But this app does the job.

You can buy real meters to do real measuring and math, not interpolation and modelling (which is what photone does). Bonus is that real meters often come partitioned by wavelength, which can be even more illustrative for us growers. Not hating on it, if you don't have any idea then yes use it. Pretty much any serious/valid review of it I have seen boils down to 'this I use for anchoring only' as in, they use it to get a number then using the same settings see what their changes do to the readings

it can work but its not a proper PPFD meter. Phone cameras are not all the same so different models will have different readings and its converting a LUX reading into PPF, its not really reading it in PPF as its not a quantum sensor its a camera lenses. Keep this in mind. Even if you don't calibrate it, its consistent with that light and that phone that it is installed on. If you get a new light or phone, it will need to be re-evaluated. Base it off of the plants growth habits. If its stretching to much more light. if its super compact less light. and then use the app to figure out what that number is. be it 400PPFD or 900PPFD as you know its not accurate to its real PPFD but it will be consistent. If you can rent a quantum par senor do it. you only need it for a hour or so, then just calibrate the phone to what the par sensor says and bobs your uncle. It won't be as good but it will do the trick. and no need to buy a par sensor for 300 dollars as your just a hobbyist grower. My grow shop let me borrow theirs. It was great I made a PPFD map for my lights. Good Luck!

Hi, Photon did not work for me. I use PPFD Meter app which was more accurate than Photon when i used it side by side with a meter i had bought on amazon. Both gave me the same ppfd with +/- 5 umol. Hope this helps!
