Hi harpoon! For an autoflower outdoors, you want to give the roots enough space to explode before that internal clock hits the flowering stage. Since you're digging a hole for the best results, aim for about 15 to 20 liters of your peat/coco/perlite mix per plant. This volume is the sweet spot; it's large enough to buffer nutrients and hold moisture during hot days, but not so massive that an auto can't fill it out in its short lifespan. If you go much smaller, you'll be watering constantly, and if you go way larger (like 50L+), the plant might not even use all that medium before it's done. Make sure the hole is wide rather than just deep, as cannabis roots love to spread out near the surface. With that mix, you’ll have great drainage, so just stay on top of your feeding since coco/peat doesn't hold nutrients as long as native soil. Happy Growing, Growmie!💚?

Roots will grow into a volume of around 20L. Hole should be min. 30cm/1ft in diameter and about 60cm/2ft in depth. Depending on strain, resistance (substrate) and watering, the roots will grow more down or sideways (to the water), so do not forget to check afterwards if you want to improve.

Before adding new soil, first assess what you already have. Soil structure, drainage, and organic content determine whether amendments are needed. Often, improving native soil is better than replacing it. Add materials like coco/peat, perlite, or humus only if the soil limits growth: Dense soil → improve aeration Sandy soil → increase water/nutrient retention Low biology → add organic matter like worm castings Avoid creating isolated “soil pockets.” Blending with native soil supports stronger root expansion and a more stable system. The approach also depends on style: Organic = build and improve soil Mineral = control the medium 👉 Clear goals and conditions help others give better advice.

Usually 20 liters are enough for an automatic-lifecycle. If you plant her in a hole she will take more space from the surrounding soil if she needs it.

Hi and thanks for your question! I always use clay pebbles at the bottom for drainage. Plastic pots or fabric pots both work well, especially because they provide good aeration. I usually go with a 50/50 mix of light mix soil and perlite, and that has worked really well for me so far. The only downside with fabric pots is that they can sometimes be a bit too light and tip over easily. Hope this helps you out! Best regards, Terpz🙏
