I guess stunted growth like that is down to lack of air in the soil from over watering which is the biggest issue with new growers. You've got to let the soil dry out almost completely between waterings. Use coco coir next time. Its just like soil but doesn't hold onto water and has more air pockets. More people use coco than soil nowadays. Take no notice of rude pricks,we all started somewhere.
