During most of the vegetative stage, I keep the light around 40 cm (about 16 inches) above the canopy, and I adjust the intensity between 30% and 85%, depending on how the plants are reacting. It depends always a bit on the strain and the individual plant's needs.
I’d also use Photone app to measure PPFD — for veg, you want to aim for around 200 and going to arround 400 PPFD.
