I used dried pellet fertilizer, If you were to get fresh manure You need to let it sit for at least half a year and probably also dry it. Sprinkled on top and worked it into the soil a bit (about one finger deep) before putting the plants in. My main problem was severely miscalculating the needed amount of fertilizers.
