I never water too often, the problem was that I used to water with 1L of water a 3.5L pot, this lead to a little issue: The soil needed 5-6 days to fully dry, so I just started (since week 3) to water with ~10% of water the total capacity of the pot (so ~0.3L) and now in 3-4 days the soil is completely dry.
About your light, I can see you are using a 125W fluorescent light, is this generating a lot of heat? If not, you can try to lower the light and see how it goes =)
A TIP that helped me a lot:
When you'll start to give more water, boil 3-4 banana peals and water your plant with the leftover water, is a good natural fertilizer for veg status :D
