Pumpkin Kush is a profit-yielding cross between Californian Bubba Kush and Lamb’s Bread, a landrace strain originally from the West Indies. It is a small, robust strain capable of producing heavy harvests with a unique aroma reminiscent of fresh pumpkin pie.

Its effects are very alerting and uplifting, combining the strong euphoria of Lamb’s Bread with the deep, physical stone of Bubba Kush. It grows well indoors and outdoors, and, when given the right amount of TLC, can produce some really fabulous returns.

PUMPKIN KUSH GENETICS

Pumpkin Kush is an exotic hybrid that combines US genetics with a unique landrace strain from the West Indies. This strain is just slightly sativa-dominant and boasts a hard-hitting physical stone with a touch of cerebral euphoria.

Pumpkin Kush’s first parent is Bubba Kush, a sedating indica bred in California in the late 1990s. While its exact lineage isn’t known, Bubba Kush is believed to be the result of an accidental cross between an OG Kush male and an unnamed indica female (which some rumour to have been a landrace strain from Afghanistan).

Bubba Kush is renowned for producing a very strong, physical stone. Containing roughly 17% THC, its effects kick in almost instantly, producing a long-lasting, sedative stone. Its aromas are typical of a great Kush strain, combining a bold herbal scent with notes of pepper, spicy hash, and slight citrus undertones.

The second parent of Pumpkin Kush is Lamb’s Bread, a big, resinous, and uplifting sativa from the West Indies and Jamaica. Little is known about Lamb’s Bread (also sometimes called Lamb’s Breath), but it is believed to have been extremely popular in Jamaica throughout the 1970s and 80s. Some sources suggest it greatly fuelled the reggae scene on the island, and that even Bob Marley toked on this lovely sativa.

Lamb’s Bread produces big, bright green, super sticky buds. Its effects are extremely euphoric and long-lasting, even after just a couple of hits. A great daytime strain. Many people swear by this strain for its uplifting effects that provide a boost of energy and creativity just when you need it.

Pumpkin Kush preserves the hard-hitting effects of its Bubba Kush parent and couples it with a slight cerebral punch. Its physical characteristics are more indica-like, resulting in short-statured plants that produce dense, heavy buds.

GROWING PUMPKIN KUSH

Like most Kush strains, Pumpkin Kush is very adaptable and can produce great harvests both indoors and outdoors. These plants grow to 90–140cm, depending on the amount of soil, space, and nutrients you give them. This strain tends to look a bit more like an indica, having preserved the small, compact stature of its Bubba Kush parent.

Indoors, Pumpkin Kush likes slightly cooler nighttime temperatures, at least four weeks of solid vegetative growth, and plenty of ventilation to ward off pests, bud rot, and fungal problems. Once you flip it over to flowering, it will take roughly 8–10 weeks to be ready for harvest.

Outdoors, Pumpkin Kush does particularly well in warm, dry climates with plenty of direct sunlight. Plant them in pots of 25l or more, and they will develop thick stems and plenty of foliage. For best results, trim your plants regularly and use LST or HST to manipulate growth and increase your yield.

Come harvest time, your Pumpkin Kush plants will be heavy with dense, bright green buds covered in a sticky layer of trichomes. While harvests vary depending on your skill/experience as a grower, this is a profit-yielding plant capable of producing up to 525g/m² in a grow tent, and up to 700g/plant outdoors.

EFFECT, FLAVOUR, AND AROMA OF PUMPKIN KUSH

With about 20% THC, the effects of Pumpkin Kush can be felt after just a couple of hits from a joint or vape. Expect a fast onset of deep, physical relaxation coupled with some strong cerebral stimulation. Enjoy it while writing, painting, or engaging in other creative activities, before a workout, or at parties/social gatherings.

Pumpkin Kush is also great for enjoying at home while cooking, listening to records, or watching a good movie. Its cerebral effects will leave you laser-focused and alert while its physical effects will help you relax and unwind.

What really sets this strain apart from other Kush varieties is its complex flavour and aroma. As the name suggests, Pumpkin Kush sports bold flavour notes reminiscent of sweet pumpkin pie. This strain is particularly rich in the terpenes myrcene and caryophyllene, which complement its strong floral aroma with exotic hints of pepper and spices.

The Pumkin Kush strain is not stable. All plants all have far too many and broad leaves, which continued to appear despite the weekly defoliation. Flowers appear very slowly and with very few trichomes. The quality of the buds has disappointed me. One plant suddenly start to produce male pollen out of small half moon style male balls. Plant #3 was the best !

ike all other 5 RQS regular strains, this Pumpkin Kush strain turned out to be another disappointment. They do not come anywhere near the excellent quality of the RQS female seeds. The Pumkin Kush strain was also not stable. The quality of the buds has disappointed me. The plants all have far too many and broad leaves, which continued to appear despite the weekly defoliation. Hardly any flowers appear. The 3 Pumpkin Kush's I had are completely different from each other. Pumpkin Kush # 3 is my favorite. The taste is repulsive and attractive in one, the effect is quite strong. # 7 is a weak plant and barely has trichomes. # 8 looked very promising, but turned out to produce a lot of male flowers during the last weeks of flowering.
