Sooo.. This year I decided to start off with an old free Girl Scout Cookies seed I had sitting around in my free seeds box, and have a play about with a technique from a book I have found very interesting for a few years now... The Secrets of the West Coast Masters, By Dru West.
If you are not familiar, Id highly recommend.
If you are familiar... I'm not planning on following the technique word for word, but playing about with the mathematic principles and ideas behind the growth structure.

Tucked the Girl into a mix of my own compost and some real nice soil I got from an ancient woodland I live nearby* on March 1st, and put her straight under the light.
Took a while to pop up... I’d imagine this is because of the early start and cooler temps in the dojo... But after 6 days she was looking up at the light.
*Yep.. A bit of soil from an ancient woodland 🙃
Was out in a walk one day, and was in absolute amazement of the giant pines and thick carpet of ferns and flowers covering the floor.
Having previously read about amazonian soil and a pocket full of poo bags... I thought I’d take a bit of that goodness home with me. 😬

Pleased with this weeks progress. 🙃
Temps up and she seems like a happy girl.
Repotted... Well, potted the peat pot in another mix of my ancient compost...
歡迎 蚱蜢
Noticed her roots already protruding from the bottom of her small pot after just a about 10 days or so, so re-potted again.
Got in a 50L bag of BoiBizz All-Mix, a new 30L pot and put some clown shoes on her 🤡
Give a light feed after transplanting and upped the light slightly to 23in...
Shes looking quite happy at the moment.
🙃

Been keeping a close eye on her over the past couple of weeks as her leaves are slightly starting to curl, and was also starting to worry her growth was slower than I would have liked at this stage.
Decided to up the light another inch as per the recommendation from the manufacture 🤨... note to self... refresh your mind with a quick glance at the instructions rather than placing your light where you “think it should be” 🤓Also increased the air circulation in the dojo.
She is looking a lot happier, with 2 inches growth over the past few days. 🙃
歡迎 蚱蜢
Still not happy with the amount of growth I'm seeing... Gained about an inch in hight over the week, but am not seeing any branch development 🤨
Was it my initial soil mix?
Is it too cold in the dojo at the moment?... not too sure.
Cant do anything about the soil unless i want to dig her up 😒 but temp should improve soon.
Upped her nutrients today to 1ml/m.
Lets see what the next week brings.
歡迎 蚱蜢
Had a better week of growth gaining 3 inches, so time to begin developing the base structure of how i want to train her.
I topped her just above her 8th branch, and removed her bottom 4.
The 4 remaining branches are to be grown to about 4 inches and trained to grow level and straight out, forming 4 corners or the plant.
These will be my North, East, South and West main branches.
歡迎 蚱蜢
Pleased with how things have gone this week.
The 4 main branches are forming a nice even base structure.
(Good NEWS!! 🤓)
🙃
Next week i will start to think about pruning off unwanted sub branches.

Busy week in the dojo, but not without mishaps.
First half of the week showed nice progress but caused a bit of damage when levelling out the canopy midweek. 🤕
When tying down her north and south main branches I heard a small crack 😳
inspection of the wounds didn't look too bad, so i thought...
When I cane back to check on her the next day, she had cut herself into the ties whilst reaching up to the light. 😒
Removed the ties and patched her up with a couple of plasters, and she seems to still be ok... for now...🤞
Also spent a bit of time putting together the guide rail for the grow.
A 24”x24” square rail with 8 evenly spaced drilled holes on each side (6 per by side + 2 corners). The idea behind the rail is to guide her 4 main branches and 6 selected sub-branches into specific directions NESW, N1, N2... E1, E2... S1... and so on... From these 6 sub, I will go on to select a number of secondary branches to evenly fill out the canopy.
Now I'm not saying I’m gonna manage it... 🤫
But all this guiding and selecting should give me 64 tops across an even canopy.
Soo... Rail has been built and placed upon some floating floor legs I happened to have at hand and, N, E, E1, S, W and W1 are all attached to the rail.
Lets see how this turns out. 🙃

N, N1
E, E1, E2
S, S1
W, W1, W2
All on the rail.
Notice how N & S are behind... Cant help but think this is due to the damage done a couple of weeks back.
Both look healthy enough, but the comparison with E & W shows they could be doing better.

Sub branches continue to develop, with each of the main branches giving enough growth to allow for another sub branch to be tied to the rail.
N, N1, N2
E, E1, E2, E3
S, S1, S2
W, W1, W2, W3
All on the rail.
Also started some defoliation to allow more light penetration.
歡迎 蚱蜢
She has really seemed to enjoyed her defoliation this week with fast recovery and vigorous growth.
N, N1, N2, N3
E, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5
S, S1, S2, S3
W, W1, W2, W3, W4
All on the rail. 🙃
Over the next couple of weeks I will start selecting secondary branches for the last phase before I start thinking about putting her in to flower... In about another 4 weeks time.

S, S1, S2, S3, S4
W, W1, W2, W3, W4, W5
All on the rail.
Dont think I'm going to bother being too choosy on my secondary branches.
Ive removed a couple, but all in all they tend to be stretching up and filling out the canopy nicely.

Upped her feed this week with 1 ml/l of Bio-Heaven and been rewarded with yet another week of flourishing. Super happy with how she is going. 🙃
N, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5
E, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5
S, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5
W, W1, W2, W3, W4, W4

Super hot in the dojo at the moment, found myself watering twice as often this week.
N, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6
E, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6
S, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5
W, W1, W2, W3, W4, W5, W6
All on the rail.
S6 has developed... but not strong enough for me to start bending and tying down into place.
1 more week and I’ll flip her into flower.
歡迎 蚱蜢
Last week of veg as I need to make space for a couple more Id like to put into flower at the end of aug.
Been long enough anyway... Think the slow development is due to my bad soil choice at the start. 🤔 Think i could have got here about 4 weeks earlier... but i stuck it out (roughly) and built out a BASIC version of the structure outlined in the book.
Spent a bit of time removing the ties and rail and placing a net over her in prep for flower and flipped her over into flower yesterday.
Lets see how she does. 🍪
歡迎 蚱蜢
Flipped into flower last week, and give her a little bit of a weave into the net.
Small stretch.
Kept to veg nutrients to wait for signs of pre-flower.
Will start adding Bloom and Top-Max next week.
If I was you brotha I’d get some of the garden soft tie wire.
It’s covered with soft rubber to prevent such mishaps.
In my grow....I snapped a branch on my Bruce banner and attempted to splint it but it still suffered a bit. Then that branch developed almost a supercrop knuckle and that became one of my most productive branches.
Then.....while moving my plants around I snapped the MAIN COLA on my Bruce banner.
That girl has been through hell!! But both of the snapped branches developed rapidly after I mended them!
They look good!
Are yours autos?
Check out my GSC on my page if you get a chance!
@Rollme1kenobi,
No they are not autos.
Thanks for the tip.
Think I will do that in the future buddy. 🙃
What a nightmare!! Fingers crossed my N & S branch development picks up soon. They don't look bad... Just don't seem to be doing as well as E & W.
Looks good.
My Girl Scout is three weeks old today and I was afraid I stunted it’s growth with my light setup too.
Take a look leave a like and comment if you’d like!
@Rollme1kenobi, Yep... Fingers crossed, I’ll continue to see improvements moving forward. 🙃
Happy to take my time and veg her out as long as I need to though. Just itching to get training. 😜
