I soaked the seed in RO water in a paper towel, and put that in a ziploc, and kept it in a warm, dark area of the house for 24 hours. The tap root popped, and I then planted directly into the FoxFarm Oceanic Forest medium, using peat pots.
True leaves are popping out and they are strange. This is either going to be one high yielding plant, or one hideous monster lol. Of course my first plant comes out like this. I'm also not sure if I am overwatering or not.
Okay, so I am definitely overwatering. Leaves are yellow and decaying. This one may not make it, but I have solid genetics in the mail so I won't be too devastated if this dies.
Okay so we're starting to recover from the overwatering, but it has likely stunted its growth a bit. Its going to be a long way if this growth rate continues.
Finally some progress, maybe now we can start picking up the pace, eh? She's got this weird spiraling growth going on, as if she is a knot coming undone, or like a tornado.
Looking perky, feeling happy. She looks ready to explode. I am hoping I start seeing some of that exponential growth, now that she's got some well established leaves. Nodes inbound.
So oddly enough this plant seems to have topped itself at some point last week because this week she developed 2 mainlines on her own. So this week I topped them both, and she looks like she's taking well to it.
I repotted because I was leaving for the weekend for my birthday and wanted the watering to last the three days. She looks good in black ;) Also starting trying LST. Lets hope this doesn't go horribly wrong haha.
Aaaaaaand it went horribly wrong haha. Not really, but, I came back from my birthday weekend to see a huge boost in progress, which did not let up throughout the week. So I upped the ante on the LST, which I guess should have been considered HST because I split the main stem right down the middle. about half an inch deep. I used a tie to mend it, let up on the LST for 2 days, and she was right back on her feet! She'll be a Big Un for sure.
We are full-on in the flow of the grow fo show. And its about damn time! Feels like I am raising a child at this point. I have another diary going and I'm wondering if the other plants will catch up to this one just from how slow its been.
So I started getting this weird deficiency several weeks ago, but now it seems to have taken over the entire plant. I know that RO water has no CalMag, but I upped the CaliMagic dose and its just gotten worse. Going to have to consult with some of my growmies to see whats going on.
So after conferring with one of my dispensary-grower friends, he said that its likely because I had "dry patches", which essentially means, that certain areas of the pot were not getting wet and the roots down there were dying. After being more attentive about evenly watering, and a little defolitation, she's back to looking her old self. Even better actually. She's loving flowering, almost to the point of screaming to me "FINALLY!", and I couldn't agree more. Its been a chilhood dream to be abke to grow my own weed. So after all these years, I am beyond excited. Its so close I can almost *smell* it lol.
SideNote: I also took two cuts for clones incase this bud turns out to be bomb.
Working hard on getting that canopy as even as possible, but the mainlines are just growing so much faster than the rest. I've been trying to burn the candle from the other end as well-- using defoliation to work that canopy up, until eventually the entire canopy is above the screen. First grow ever, so not sweating it too hard as I've only been learning and experimenting with these training techniques as I go. TBH, I'm pretty proud of myself thus far. But still have plenty of pitfalls ahead, so not trying to jinx it!
Very excited to see these buds start plumping up! At the moment, its got a weak but danky diesel smell. Any guesses as to what strain this plant might be? I've just been calling her Big Bertha since like week 6 lol. Maybe that what I'll call the mystery strain. Two weeks later, the clones look rough but they've rooted and are transplanted 😎
So she started herming. Guess I'll have to change her name to Big Barry instead 😅 Wish I could grow a testicle everytime I got frustrated, geez. Kids these days. Anyways, I've been really good about any light leaks, and the internal temps have been consistent, so I'm blaming the 'bagseed' genetics. As soon as I saw the pollen, I started misting the plant with regular RO water, and then went in and removed as many pollen sacks as I could find. But I seriously doubt that I was able to find them all, since they're so deeply hidden within the budsites, and will likely be finding more pollen over the coming weeks -___-
My first grow, so it's disappointing but Im still proud of her. Might just spread any seeds I find in the buds, out in the yard and see how they do. I certainly won't be TLC-ing mystery genetics again, aside from the clones I took off her-- which are my first clones as well (with 100% success rate 😎). Ive never had a greenthumb so please ignore my horn-tooting lol
I left for the weekend and came back to sad leaves and dry dirt. I gave it a good watering last night and its gotten a bit better since. But the leaves are noticeably faded which feels a bit early. But no real issues as of yet. The nugs are getting chunky and they smell like diesel. And the clones are doing very well, looks like this strain is going to be in my life for awhile!
So, its looking like we got A LOT of seeds :( ...So it goes. I tried to mitigate the pollen sacks as best as I could, but I couldn't catch them all. I think its due to light leaks from the velcro barrier of the 2-in-1 tent, so I just bought an entirely separate tent for vegging, to end these weird conditions I've been trying to accommodate. Hoping to still get some decent smoke from her--at least the upper nugs, but I'll probably be donating more of this to family & friends than I originally intended lol.
Holy sh*ttt! She turned purple! What a stellar surprise for my first grow ever. Bertha has been a pain in the ass, an obsession, a disappointment and a crowned jewel. She's allowed to me to make all the mistakes, has taught me everything to look for and account for, and just the best beginner plant. Amidst all of her drawbacks, she more or less has remained steady as a rock. I believe she'll be getting the chop in a little over a week, so I'm just cherishing these final days.
Now that the bud has done most of its development, and I've begun flushing, I guess it's safe to start listing some observations:
- Strange danky smell- body odor, rubber
- Light greens, to muted forest greens, to mild purples, with brown hairs
- Not very dense
- Leaves faded and began dying uncommonly early in the flowering stage
Okay so the time has come! She's ready for the dark tent. Going to give her 3 days in there before pulling her out and chopping her up. She's developed a sweet, fruity undertone to her glue-ish cedar smell. Main colas were able to develop a decent purple while larfy buds stayed in the darker green family.
The bud is very airy, especially after removing the seeds. Extremely sticky/resinous. Its a light whiteish-green, with a ton of brown hairs. The buds will now cure for a minimum of 2 weeks, at which point I'll start cracking into them and having a good toke!
This strain was a pain in the ass honestly. I will never grow bagseeds again, when real genetics are so cheap.
This plant hermmed so I have a metric fuckton of seeds that I have no idea what to do with.
But for a first grow, this plant was really good at letting me know when I was doing something wrong. My other runs suffered the same treatment, but their strong genetics didn't mind as much. But this plant, this plant bitched and moaned about everything. Its leaves faded like 2 weeks early. It had all these weird mutations. When she was a babe (Weeks 1-4), I literally thought that she died from how she didn't grow much at all. Every other plant I've popped since, has been a dream compared to this one. But now I know how to diagnose all these things. I feel like I got 10 grows worth of wisdom in one. So for that, I am thankful.
RIP Big Bertha. You may be gone but, with the amount of seeds you've given me, your lineage will never die.
@GarciasGarden, she was a bagseed, so I guess its to be expected :/ But either way, its my first grow and looks like it'll be a good yield, so I cant complain.
@SegaYGriega, thanks!! That's comforting to hear since I was reading that seed production takes away from THC production, but you're not the first to tell me that it actually made the bud better somehow haha
