Growing well I think. All my photos will unfortunately have the growlight colour to them. I wanted to leave the plants alone as much as possible so that meant doing my best not to touch and move them around.
Ran into a deficiency of some sort and I believe it was from only using filtered water. I switched to tap water after being left out for 2 days to reduce any chlorine. The affected areas don't seem to be returning to normal, but the issue seems to have stopped spreading. I also transplanted to a 3.6gal pot a couple days later and seem to have avoided shocking the plant.
Starting to bush out a lot. Haven't noticed any issues other than the medium taking a while to dry out. Trying to water a little less while the roots are still filling out the pot. The plant with the deficiency earlier has a faint skunk smell, I'm not sure if this means it was stressed into flowering or what but it seems to be vegging still.
I also started LST on 2 of the plants. I've never grown weed before so I have to admit I'm a little timid about bending my plants around but after just one day it seems to be reshaping itself well. I left the other 2 plants alone just encase.
Started LST on the other 2 because they were getting too tall relative to the others. The plants are a little small for their age but new growth develops everyday as far as I can tell so I'm happy with how it's going.
Please correct my if I'm wrong but I believe I see the first signs of pistils in the picture above. It seems all 4 plants have developed these little white hairs towards the top of each plant.
From what I've been able to find, this seed is an autoflower (I could be wrong but this is what I've gathered from other journals who used the same seeds), so I don't know if I should be adjusting the light hours down to 12/12 or keep them at 18/6. I'd love to hear some advice from more experienced growers if possible (this is my first grow). I'm also curious to know how much longer of a "veg" stage I have left with these girls as they haven't quite grown to the size I was hoping for.
Day 40: Lower branches are starting to even out in height and are also filling in the empty space in the pots. I'll LST those branches to more efficiently use up the space when they get long enough. I started LST on the 2 plants on the left 3 days earlier than the other 2 and they clearly look more developed. It's pretty cool to see that difference first hand.
Growth really picked up over the last week or so. Noticing a lot more pistils coming out of top parts of branches.
Slowing down on LST, just doing enough to keep lower branches exposed to direct light. Tucking leaves under each other.
Next time I will grow less plants at a time as well since I'm already running into space issues.
There's a lot of mixed and misleading information about these seeds, and I'm a little frustrated that the breeder hasn't given any public information about them. It seems even experienced growers are unsure if these seeds are auto's or photos.
I started seeing pistils about 2 weeks ago and not much has changed since then. The OCS description claims these seeds flower usually "within 45-55 days", and I'm now on day 55.
The plants look good and healthy, they're also still growing vertically almost an inch each day. I'll definitely avoid these seeds and the breeder in the future because as a newbie grower, the lack of information regarding this strain and seed made the task of growing much harder. I purposely bought these seeds thinking they would auto in about 50 days, and now I don't even know if it will auto at all.
If anyone knows the answers to any of my questions I'd love to hear them.
I got a new light today to hopefully give my plants more light to promote bud growth. The old blurple light was starting to bug me and I don't think it was supplying enough light especially towards the edges of the tent. I hope I made the right move.
Only 1 plant seems to have switched itself to flower on its own so I've changed the light schedule to 12/12. I also raised and dimmed the new light because it was causing my plants to droop a lot even at the highest height I could raise it to. I'll increase the dimmer power slowly as it adapts to the new spectrum and brightness.
Took out a lot of the overshadowed leaves at the bottom and any bud sites that wont really develop into much. Also took out some fan leaves that were just kinda squished together. I hope this helps keep my humidity down and improve airflow a little bit. Took them out bit by bit over a period of 3 days just so I didn't stress the plant too much. They drooped a bit after the final pruning so I decided to leave them alone now.
One plant seems to be a week or 2 ahead of the others because it began flowering before I even switched the light schedule. The tent is starting to noticeably smell more skunky too which I believe is a good sign for flowering. I also hope the plants are almost done stretching because they filled the whole tent already.
Flowering along nicely! Noticing some lighter shades of green in the newer leaves and they also seem to be growing in skinnier each time. If anyone has any suggestions on what the deficiency or problem is please let me know! If it's nothing major then phew. :)
There's a bit of an overall deficiency in everything in one plant because I flushed it. I thought that there was too much salt build up in the medium but I was wrong and should have just kept along with my feed schedule. I watered it today anyway with a good dose of nutrients so it should stop yellowing hopefully. Otherwise, flowering is going along well.
I also got a new tent so I hooked up my old light in it and put 2 plants under it. The single tent was getting too tight and I really now wish I had only done 1 plant lol.
So I ended up harvesting earlier than I wanted for multiple reasons. The most obvious one being all my plants suffered from a lack of nutrients as I had vegged twice as long as my schedule had planned without increasing the dosage required for bigger plants. This resulted in a slow starvation for all 4 plants.
Secondly, 2 plants went hermie due to the stress and ended up pollinating one of the plants sharing the tent with them. This caused the plant to start making seeds as you can see from one of the photos.
So with half my harvest going hermie, and the other half already gone yellow/brown and pollinated I decided to cut my losses and harvest the buds as they were. Lucky the deficiencies at this point hadn’t reached the flowers yet, but the total harvest wasn’t ideal. I would have liked to see the trichomes go amber but never did.
In the end the high is very heady and smoking too much gives me a headache probably from the underdeveloped trichomes. Although the buds and leaf are very frosty looking, the actual buds are very small so it’s mostly just frosty leaf. I think I’ll end up using it for hash or edibles since it’s not very nice to smoke.
It’s been a cool experience growing weed for the first time. I’m already 11 weeks into my next grow and have learned a lot from the past grow to make this next one more successful.
