Worst year ever for germination rate. Using one to two year old seeds, starting 3.21 as always, set after set either didn't crack or did and stalled. One of the seed companies stated I shouldn't be using seeds that old and challenged my storage. (As directed; dark dry cool stable place) Finally, with the last four seeds of now 51 purchased, I took the paper plate sandwich OFF the propagator matt and VOILA!! Those 4 seeds grew vigorous tails and are now maturing in the propagator in Jiffy Cups/starter soil, LED and FLo. lamps These 3 Gorilla Bomb from Bomb Seeds were the only of 20 to make it ON the matt. I think the matt gets too hot for seeds, especially with just another folded paper towel the only thing between! I won't be using the matt for seeds in the future! Seeds also were very small and little to no veining. These last four mentioned are GodFather OG from WeedSeedExpress. I won't be letting my seed inventory go over 1 year old any more. I'm OK with the suppliers who have all offered credit for the future. (Replacement photo period seeds would be too late) WSE sent some Bruce Banner Auto's I am excited to try yet now all pots are full (If seedlings in propagator make it to transplant).

Long story short 53 seeds for 8 spouts all drown after transplant to final where soil will not dry out no matter how much perlite, vermiculite and pumice is added. Worst result by far from any year. Enough to make me quit. I know what I'm doing, I'm just cursed it seems. Thanks to any who gave input to me. Good luck. I'm out of it. A joyous hobby has become a soul draining chore. I'm done with it.

While down for the count this season: BIKE CRASH Grade 3 A.C. separation, can't type much. Hurts too much. Even the last try (4th or 5th? this season) is drowning in soil that retains every drop of moisture seemingly longer than I have left on earth. B4 crash mixed up yet another soil batch for yet another batch of seedlings (see pics) and they may look fine to you but they haven't had but a couple of cups the entire time (going on 3 wks now) they have been in this newest soil mix. Full of perlite, pumice, rocks, vermiculite, and "cactus and succulent mix" soil to once and for all create a soil that would drain to no avail...then the bike crash HURTS TO TYPE Any ideas for next year? These will just die off now...maybe I'm not getting the hint.

Potting soil mix for cannabis. I'm having extreme drainage problems with my usual soil mix this year. 60% Ocean Forest with 40% perlite/pumice watered once in March is still wet. Plants stunted, worthless. Three tries with new mixes all failed. No time but for autos now.

I use 3 parts Ocean Forest to 1 part pearlite and have great drainage and your soil looks about like mine. When I water I will apply a thin layer to the soil surface. It stays on top and does not soak in immediately but within a minute it soaks in and wets the soil. After that it accepts water almost as fast as I can pour it on.

Hi there, IMO if you want a good drainage pot, go 1:1:1 ratio for soil, coco, perlite. And If you want a best drainage go 70/30 coco/perlite mix.I sometimes get problems with poor drainage ,especially when I want to grow orgainically with dry organic amendments.Too much dried organic matters make the soil hard and difficult for water penetration.BTW I always put marble stone at the bottom of the pot for extra good drainage.Good luck and happy growing... ✌️

Gorilla Bomb drooping due to substrate being too dense. I chopped up the old soil with roots too find the added bulk of leftover roots and rhizomes made it too dense. I waited two weeks without adding any water to see if they would dry out. NOPE, so I mixed up some newly aeriated soil with LOTS of perlite, lava rock and made a bed of rocks and cactus mix for the bottom to increase drainage and air circulation. More nutrients were added of the same used before. Today these are happy as clams and reaching for the sky in anticipation of the sun coming out later. I'm so glad I decided to transplant again into better draining soil. It serves to remind us that if we are adept at transplanting, then if conditions warrant, by all means DO IT. I also sprinkled a fresh dusting of mycorrhizae into each hole before planting and have applied silicone foliar for stem strength. (High winds a problem here and silicone has demonstrated significantly stronger stems. Notice the amount of perlite showing in the pics was not nearly enough for the newly dense recycled/recharged soil. I upped the amount to fully one third of total bulk. Surface had been bone dry so the importance of using a deep soil moisture prod is clearly demonstrated. The finger test is antiquated.

Nothing has helped my soil breath for some reason this year using the same mix as always. I decided to go radicle and gave them a H202 watering today (1/3) to get some oxygen down into the roots. I may or may not try to re-introduce mycorrhizae. I'm not sure at this late stage if it will make any difference. I decided to try since they are staying green at the top. Stunted yes but maybe something and I started an auto Bruce Banner but it doesn't like something, showing cupping/canoe leaves even tho I didn't add any supplements to this soil and it's outside so it can't be too much light. Oh, well, my shoulder is better today at least.

Thank you for your encouragement, however nothing I do helps my grow. It's all dying off as too wet and I can't do anything about it. When these die off I'm out of this hobby. I can't seem to do it after 7 years trying I never produced anything near what I could buy and the failures kept mounting instead of improving. Its become too much heartbreak for so much effort. Thousands of hours and thousands of dollars later in retrospect it was a fun experiment that ultimately failed. Mediocre results never matched the amount of study, effort and expense. Better luck to the rest of you!
