I’ve had big problems on the past solely with ILGM germination, but this one appeared successful as I placed it in the soil today. It’s sitting next to a Barney’s Farm Zkittlez OG, which has produced a great big and a very small plant, using identical methods.
My last grow technique brought about dramatically improved harvests.
Both seeds appear successfully germinated.....and we’re off!
Last match between these two contenders showed ILGM Bruce Banner to be the bigger of the two (38”) with foot-long buds towering over its opponent. But she was slow to come around, developing buds long after Zkittlez had started to fatten up. Zkittlez had big, fat colas, Banner long and thin.
It was a draw and both are approaching harvest.
This grudge match is in its first round, and has Banner a happy one-inch tall seedling. Zkittlez has had difficulty finding where “up” is, forcing a curly-Q root to rise above the surface. She’s only now starting to emerge, two days after Banner. I hope she figures this out eventually!
Let’s see how this goes.
Starting Week 2, Bruce Banner Auto is growing well and gaining strength.
My poor Zkittlez OG auto is still struggling. When it wasn’t emerging, I took a peek by moving the dirt carefully and saw that it had a very convoluted, confused root.
Even now, as it slowly emerges late, you can see part of the root system sticking out of the soil. This confusion has certainly affected its progress. I thought a seed always easily finds “up”?
I moved their older, five-week sisters into the big tent, so now these girls have the small tent and light to themselves. Neither plant has come out of the gate like gangbusters.
ILGM Bruce Banner Auto is out of the gate, not strong, but steady....at least in comparison to the diminutive Barney’s Farm Zkittlez OG Auto. ‘Z’ just couldn’t find up! The root came out first and a gentle unearthing showed a convoluted mess of root. She’s definitely behind in the competition...but it’s early in the grudge match
“Up” has now been determined but I’ve had one-day old seedlings the size of this two-week little person. Someone suggested taking hr outside into the summer sun, and this has worked well.
One good event is that my skills continue to improve. My average auto harvest for my first 12 plants were a measly .98 oz. I just harvested a 2.8 and 3.7 ounce yield, with an even larger one just finishing up! 🤗
Going into Week 4, things are finally getting more interesting. The stunted Barney’s Farm Zkittlez is finally recovering from its birth trauma (not being able to find “up”). Nonetheless, at three weeks completed, it’s only an inch tall, though more a seedling of similar size. I’m glad I didn’t destroy her, I almost did.
On the other hand, Bruce Banner is a happy girl and responded well to both topping and bending over.
I gave both a very light first feed, using Fish Shit, molasses, Fox Farm Grow Big in tiny doses. I also harvested a previous grow and moved these ladies into the main tent.
#17 Zkittlez finally recovered from its birth trauma of rooting issues. But it’s running at least a week behind her sister despite hitting the dirt the same day.
Since the summer sun was scorching, I took the plants out of the tent and into the sunlight. All the new growth in all my plants appeared bleached. I’m not sure if there’s damage involved but it doesn’t look good. I probably will keep them in the tent from now on.
But, it was a good week for growth, LST and being well fed. I never topped #17 due to its stressed past. #18 Bruce Banner did well with topping.
The Grudge Match is only weeks old, but Zkittlez is the clear loser to Bruce Banner.
Zkittlez has led a hard life from the start when it couldn’t find “up” with its root. Has anyone ever had this as an issue? The root coming out of the soil before the seedlings?
After that, I took everyone outside to enjoy the blazing summer sun: HUGE MISTAKE with severe sun damage slowing the growth of all my plants.
But ILGM Bruce Banner is doing great. Starting to get big, so I added Fox Farm Grow to add more nitrogen. A previous, aggressively-growing plant used up all its nitrogen at week 8 and went lime green on me.
So, successes and failures. Such is the life of an early grower. I would love to grow an unstressed plant. Week 8 seems to be where over or under feeding always manifests itself.
Grow on!
As I hit Week 8, these two plant couldn’t be more different. Bruce is still an early 8 weeker, with more growing and filling out to do. So far, this is my first issue free plant, usually encountering over or under feeding issues about now.
Zkittlez is pitiful, much smaller than plants half her age. It’s barely taking water. Throughout, I’ve been ready to pull the plug and this week is no different.
