6/5 I began the process in a cup. I placed it in the grow tent in the dark. I swirled the seeds around every 6 hours or so to see if they sank yet.
After 6 hours one dropped.
After 12, the second dropped.
After 18, the third dropped when I swirled or with my finger.
I pulled them at this point and used cheap paper towels to continue germinating. I read that more plush paper towels are easier for them to weave through so I used cheap rough ones. I folded it in quarters, and then carefully organized the seeds on it after adding a little water; just enough to have them stick and not roll off. I then folded it in half again, pressing to see if I needed to add more water. The top of the paper towel wasn’t saturated after wicking water from the bottom so I put a little more water so the top was completely damp (not soaked) as well.
I read that a lot of people put them in a warm dark closet like where their routers & satellite boxes are (this makes no sense to me lol - but I ran with it) so that is where my ziplock bag found it’s home.
Before closing it, I blew air inside the bag and then placed it on top of a modem to keep it warm and help with humidity. Twice a day I opened the bags, unfolded the paper towel for a few seconds, and then repeated the process of adding air, sealing, and placing back on the modem.
The next morning one had already cracked. 24 hours from placing them in the bag, two had cracked and had decent tap roots. I decided to wait another night to see if the third would catch up as it was only just beginning to crack. The next morning it had nearly caught up with the others. Time to get them in rapid rooters!
Being my first time, I decided to do a little test when placing them.
1) deep
2) somewhere in the middle
3) high
It’s no surprise that the one closest to the top sprouted first. However, my interest is learning of the one closest to the bottom will have roots showing first.
6/10 the deepest one is beginning to surface but I have doubts it’ll pop, we’ll see. The other two are looking beautiful. Now, we wait.
My plan is to move them to pots once roots are showing on the rapid rooters on all 3, assuming the third pops just to not have to do it 3 different times. Fingers crossed for a successful first run.
6/11 - tomorrow starts week one. Much to my surprise, all three did in fact pop from the rapid rooters. Still only receiving distilled water at this point, which I’ll continue until 3 weeks unless they ask for nutes sooner. I plan on moving to a solo cup or the equivalent tomorrow or the next day. Roots are showing on one of three rapid rooters (only the second to largest, believe it or not). Hope you’ve enjoyed to pictures... please follow me along on this journey 🌱
