The yield was tiny, as expected (growing 4 little bud-on-a-stick like clones), but I got plenty of seeds which is what I was after. =)0

They are *either* from weed that I bought 4-5 years ago in Scotland, *or* they are from Dutch grown weed (in which case they are about twice that age!).

You may need to exercise some extreme patience with old seeds. I've got an experimental grow going with some 10yr. old beans and almost just tossed their dirt and the beans 20th hi my they wouldn't sprout.....just took three weeks, but they're mean green beans growing strong now.

@Kirr38, Cheers! Advice well placed, I'm such an impatient git. 😁

One of them has caught a fungus, it seems. Stem is going, damping off. Not much that can be done at that point.

@beadyeyes, Thanks, I'll try that. 😊

@Chamalla,i would use sodium bicarbonate to spray the stem. It gets pH high, the fungus stops growing

Nope. Maybe not. Seems that seedling was in the paper towel for too long, it's not continuing to grow.

@Kirr38 Patience does pay, one of the seeds that I removed half the shell of two weeks ago lived! Might get 3 plants out of this after all. 😊

Her leaves started turning yellow and dry, like the Haze Express before her. Pulled the plug on her, not going through that again. Erna & Berta are still doing fine. *knockonwood*

I had to put one of them in a pot already, as the tap root was growing upwards for some reason. The unused bottom 2/3 of its rooter can be seen in the picture before. They're all turning a nice healthy green though. If I only get these three plants out of this unexpected find I'll be quite happy.

Quick update: a 3rd one has since started wriggling its little tap root out of its shell - oddly enough one of the 5 that didn't sink. So ... good news there. We have at least 3 live ones so far. I've taken another 4 out of the paper towel, because they had managed to crack their shells open a few days ago but were showing no further movement, and to prevent infant death I decided to have a closer look and carefully opened the shell of one further. The seedling inside looked white and healthy. So I removed that half of the shell completely and, trying not to touch the seedling, placed it in a rooter plug with the exposed side up against the moist peat. I did that for all 4 of them. Not sure if they were already dead when I did this, or - as I'm hoping was the case - they were just a wee bit exhausted after cracking that shell half open and needed that little bit of help to get going once more. See if they start moving again over the weekend.
