Cuvee x Hibiscus Sunrise 2 started indoors in a 3 gallon cloth pot then got moved to a 5 gallon bucket outside. She was planted into the ground in the last week or so. I know it's late in the season already but I thought I would give it at shot anyways. Earlier in her life I had to go out of town for a couple weeks and the plant sitter neglected her and didn't water her enough and I think it stunted her.

The photo isnt clear enough to say one way or the other but if you have bugs in the soil you can top dress with diatonaceous earth (dont put too much) and it rips their tiny bug bodies open and they die of dehydration and shoukd clesr up in a few days. Nematodes SF work at clearing out the larvae in the soil, you just water a tiny bit of the egg powder in and give it a couple of days. In the mean time, get yellow stickies from garden center cause they will help until DE / nems do their thing. Otherwise, if you are not obsessed with microbial life you can water with a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) dilution which is supposed to clear them out (I was too chicken to try that).

No fungus gnats like soil and wet areas. You look like you have thrips or aphids. Aphids like leaves. So that’s my guess. I suggest using some Safers Insecticidal Soap. It works for multiple problems. Or the Safers 3 in one garden spray. Always good to have a little of this on hand for when issues arise. Hope that answers your question. Cheers. Good luck.

This week has been mild, between 70 and 85 degrees and there has been a lot ( I mean thousands) of flying bugs. Slowed all watering of plants and lawn in order to keep moisture down since its getting into the 60% humidity range at night and in the mornings. She is starting to smell more and looks much frostier.
