This is my first grow ever and an experiment at the same time AND I am a first time user. I'll be going to mix the advices I've got from my local shop (bless him and his patience) with my own knowledge and try to grow for the right amount of CBD with the empirical method.
There are no rules here, only chaos, but any advice is still welcome. 😄
The peat pellet and the soil were sterilized with boiling water to kill eventual pests eggs or larvae.
--- --- --- --- ---
EDIT: First seed was a dud and never started; if lightly squished let out a white liquid substance. 😞 The second seed was alive, germinated in glass of water, took 6 days to show the first false leaves, slightly yellow on the end. I'm unsure about the soil drainage, even with a ratio of soil/perlite of 4:1.
She is growing well! The yellowing on the false leaves is gone and she is starting to sprout the second pair of leaves. So cute. 😊
I've started with the Top Crop, as suggested from my local shop. I'll continue to observe the growth, gather data, and see what I can do.
At the beginning she seemed slow, but now its growing quite fast and look very healty.
Day 14:
- I'm watering her once every two days with 250ml of water (using the filtered because she's a picky lady) plus 0.5ml of Top Candy and I switched to the 18/6h light schedule.
- Waiting the moment to do the topping and starting shaping her.
Day 18:
- I tried topping her as I need to keep her short; I'll see soon if that was enough. I'll probably top her again at least once more and go with the LST.
- The piece that got cut had a very sweet smell, probably because of the molasses of the Top Candy. Still, I didn't expect that kind of potency from that amount of product.
Day 20:
- She looks like she didn't mind the haircut, now I'l wait and see if she'll split.
- The growth is steady, circa a cm a day and the leaves looks healty.
- No signs of gnats of other parasites after the first four, apparently boiling water did the trick.
- She is already starting to have a very faint odor I get when I open the dooor; herbaceous with an hint of sweet. Very nice, smells like a good quality hemp candle. 😅
I still don't know what I'm doing but I'm a big fan of the empirical method as a learning process. Any advice is still very welcome if you feel like sharing the knowledge.
Going in the third week and nothing much is happening, wich is a good thing.
Day 23
- The growth is steady; she is not a tall one but this is perfect for my small space. I'm still waiting for the LST.
- I still don't know if the topping was enough and did something or not. 😅
- The main stem is getting thicker and the leaves grow dense and plump with no signs of the yellowing that had the first false leaves, which comfort me greatly.
- With winter and the radiators going the humidity gets a little lower so I daily spray her with a litte bit of water to keep it up a bit.
Day 24
- A little defoliaton to improve the hairflow.
Day 25
- The little haircut didn't seem to have bothered her much, so I decided to start with the LST because I'm really worried about vertical space.
- I still don't know what I'm doing. 😓
This week she made me worry a bit.
Day 30
- I could not take care of her as well as I liked the past days, so she started to have some yellowing on the oldest leaves. Thankfully the new ones are still in good shape.
- Now we get back on track with a little bit of help from the Top Veg: 0.5ml for 250ml of water and watering slowly to let the nutrients absorb in the terrain.
- I also had a big change in the ph of the water (got to 7.8, tap water here is quite horrible lately), once I noticed it I started to regulate it with a few drops of vinegar (got no citric acid on hand ATM). I hope she would not need a flushing.
- Got a little bit more in with the LST, now she is 1 cm shorter. 😁
- Also, the topping worked!
Day 35
- That slight yellowing on the leaves; I'm not really worried about the old ones, but when it appear on the newest leaves is a motive of concerning for every plant. I had a really bad case of alcaline water spike the week prior, so I'm thinking about an improper absorption of the nutrients. Tried a flush, to reset the ph of the soil, then back again with the Top Veg.
- The growth seems to be a little bit stumped as well; see concerning above. 👆
- Should I address seriously the low humidity or is still in an acceptable range?
- I've never waited this much at a plant, even for my precious precious tomatoes. 😂
Day 37
- She looks better and the growth restarted. The ph reset worked. Not gonna lie, got me worried there. 😌
- She is on a one-on one-off Top Veg diet.
Day 39
- Now that she got back on track I had to do a much needed reshaping, so I defoliated a bit more the lower half to increase the hairflow and moved the trainers to keep her short.
- On a side note: after I cut back with the Top Candy because of the minor set back the smell subsided a little (A shame for me because I liked it and I don't need to go stealthy, but keep that in mind if you need to). I will restart with it very soon.
Day 26
- I had the horrible suspect from midway the veg, but I think I did a bad with the soil: not enough drainage and it was too compact for the plant to radicate efficiently so she didn't grow as supposed. My fault. The fact is that, because she is the first one and I had no term of comparison, and I had the necessity to keep her small because my tent is a glorified spacebucket, I had to intervene with topping and LST so it didn't dawn on me until it was too late. Because this soil is so rich, next time I'm going to increase the coco coir; probably a ratio of 3:2:1 of soil/coco coir/perlite.
- Sigh. I didn't have high expectation for this one because of my inexperience, but it's still upsetting to have this kind of setback. Thankfully this strain seems to be quite forgiving, but we'll see once we'll have the end product.
@Sweet_Seeds, Thank you! The guy at the shop said this one was his personal favourite, so I have high expectations about it. I just hope I don't mess up. 😄
Hey! Happy growing my friend! I hope you do well and get some good results! I will come by sometime to see your progress!
