This week has been a little tough! For the first time since buying MJ I had my first ordeal with pests! I didn’t know snails enjoyed the leaves?! Anyways, This week I added epsom salt to the soil of Mary Jo to keep the snails away! It works! I have had any nibbles on my leaves since and they’re recovering! There’s new growth! It’s getting colder out so I’m testing to see how cold the plant can handle! It hasn’t gotten below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and it’s still growing strong! I want to try nitrogen fertilizer on it to see if it makes a difference!

The plant isn’t growing as fast as I thought it would be. I’m not sure what nutrients to add to increase and improve growth. It’s been watered regularly and at night there is an LED light shining on it. It has a couple new leaves compared to last week though! The smell is much stronger but I’m not sure if it’s because of the rain. I’m gonna try trimming the bottom and see if that method works! Gonna research techniques and see which works best!

I noticed some crazy growth this week compared to last week! An entire inch and more leaves! I also noticed a rust color coming out on two of the bottom leaves. I’ll be treating that with neem oil. I haven’t used neem oil the past two weeks because I ran out. Since then I also caught holes on one leaf from a pest. I sprayed with dish soap and water and haven’t had any more holes since. I’m gonna do some research and try a new fertilizer when I go to get the neem oil! I’m a week or two I’ll start lowering the lighting to hopefully start the flowering stage! I don’t want the plant to get too big as my first time growing.

This week the plant grew another inch! It’s getting pretty tall in height! I’ve been mainly pinching off leaves that are showing rust color or any kind of fungus! It’s really been working well I already see tons of new growth! I haven’t used neem oil in the past two weeks or anything really to keep pests away. Hopefully it stays healthy and continues growing! I was told the temperature drops would kill the plant but it’s actually been thriving! A few weeks ago I layered the soil with epsom salt to keep pests away and now that it’s absorbed into the soil it seems like it’s doing well for the plant like it does for tomatoes!
