Before dropping seeds:
Light:
I am fortunate enough to be working with Fulton Lighting and testing the Eagle Series 780w with SP-4 spectrum (includes UV and Far Red). I am very excited about the light and can't wait to see how it performs. As a test for this light, 3 seeds will be started under it, but only one will stay. The other two will be put under another brand light to see the difference in growth and density of the buds at the end. It will also show the same strain in two different very common tent environments. Stay tuned for more to come on this.
Tent set up:
When putting this tent up, I put pvc elbow 4-ways on the corner upright poles. This allowed me to make a scrog net that can be used for a true scrog purpose or just support during flower. I just used zip ties on the poles under the elbows to hold the net in place in height. It's easy to slide the zip ties up and down to adjust the net height. Couldn't find all my zip ties in the garage so I used some plant training twist ties to help hold the net to the pvc. I also made the pvc frame so a tower fan could be installed. Using a tower fan allows more air in a vertical measurement to move air. So its not just air movement above or below, but also through the center of the canopy.
Media:
Mixed the media listed above along with the Dr. Earth fertilizers and placed into the pots 1 week before starting germination. A layer of diatomaceous earth was put on top of the media to make sure there were no gnats. Just before dropping seeds the layer of diatomaceous earth was removed, and the bit that remained was mixed into the media for a natural form of silica.
Water in sprayer and during all watering and feedings is pH'd using Lemon Juice. The sprayer is kept at a 6.5pH. Water and feedings is varied from 6.3pH - 6.7pH.
Germinating 3 seeds, directly to media using 5 gallon fabric pots for each.
Day 1:
Dampened the media with 24oz of 6.5pH water in each pot. Then I placed the seed to the media and sprinkled media on top of the seed. I then used a spray bottle to mist the media and get it damp. I placed clear cups on top as a humidity dome. The wooden skewer pieces lifted the cup slightly to allow a slight bit of air flow and try to keep mold from starting. The light is 45 inches above the pots and set at 520w. Its giving a reading of 450umol/s at the top of the media.
Day 2:
The temperature in the tent is staying between 80*F-83*F when the light is on. The 6" Vivosun vent fan and filter combo along with the Inkbird temperature controller are both working well together. Keeping the media damp with a spray bottle of 6.5pH water.
Day 3:
Everything is looking good. Still keeping things damp with the spray bottle. At a check this evening I found two that are breaking ground just 60 hours after dropping them directly to soil.
Day 4:
The third seed has popped. They are all looking really good.
Day 5:
Damping the soil with just the spray bottle. They are starting to gain size and showing their first set of single leaflets.
Day 6:
Micorrhizae was added and scratched into the top of each pot. A feed was created using distilled water and Olivia's Cloning Solution. 3/4 cup of the solution to 1 gallon of water. The ppm usually comes out at approx 450ppm. You can play with the ratio to get the ppm that you are aiming for. I love how this solution works in my cloner and have used it as an early feeder for root development.
Day 7:
Just dampened the top of the soil with the pH water. All three are looking happy and healthy.
