Excited to try a side by side grow of Chem OG, which I got as part of a contest win. They’ll be in separate diaries so I can record the differences in techniques. Please follow both to see our progress!
The seeds popped hard and fast, with the root showing less than 24hours after getting it started in wet paper towels. Left it for two further days to develop before planting directly into the 5L pot it’ll stay in. Soil is Biobizz Allmix.
Here’s what Female Seeds has to say about this strain:
This exciting American OG strain is the result of crossing an OG Kush mother with a highly potent original Chemdawg father. The OG Kush we used it's a cut deriving from the San Fernando Valley. The Chemdawg, as others understood from the description we were giving already before, is deriving from a clone of the ChemDawg 91.
She is a strong, resistant and sturdy stemmed plant. Thanks to her genes the plants present OG Kush-type buds, really dense and pop-corn shaped.
She is a highly productive plant, with light green colored leaves (with different phenos the leaves tend to get a yellowish green aspect) and vivid green buds. These buds are abundantly covered with orange pistils giving the plant a beautiful and attractive appearance. Besides the orange pistils the buds have with a very noticeable layer of trichomes.
Keep humidity low in the final stages to prevent mould. She likes different growing technique. She’s a versatile plant and reacts well to stress and any overfeeding. Screen of Green training method is a highly recommended method.
The smoke is smooth and delicate, she charms with an intense combination of flavors. One can clearly distinguish pleasant notes of lemon, pine, earthy and a woody flavor. That is thanks to its OG Kush origins, while thanks to the Chemdawg father gives the strain a very distinctive, prominent sour taste of with that typical diesel/fuel taste.
The effect is intense, long lasting and combines two different but balanced highs. At first an uplifting and stimulating high, which then develops into a more indica effect developing a more sedative effect. Even though is not a complete couch-locker strain, it still helps you relax and alleviate stress.
A friend is looking after the plants while we’re with the family so limited pictures. No nutes or anything, the Allmix should be good enough. The water is dechlorinated but otherwise not manipulated (our water is very hard).
Glad to see those little leaves peeping out!
Thanks Female Seeds for the contest prize!

Not massive growth but getting along.

Happy new year! Came home to mostly happy plants, so all good here. Nutrients will start properly next week; for this week just dechlorinated water. For those of you keeping track this is one of two Chem OGs in the tent; I was going to top one and FIM the other to compare, but since the other one got a slow start I might just FIM this one and not do anything to the other.
Thanks Female Seeds for the contest prize!
This one has responded super well to a mid-week FIM. The biggest in the tent so far. No problems at all. Started light nutes this week and will start to think about flipping to flower in a week or two.
Man this one is happy with the FIM. I also removed the first big fan leaves to allow more light to get to lower growth sites. Will flip to flower soon. Still light on the nutes and it looks very happy. Got some gnats and so broke out the yellow trap paper. So far it’s worked very well.
This one had some good growth this week, really shot up. I took off a few of the bigger fan leaves to allow more light to flowering sites. Flipped to flower 6 days ago but no signs yet.
Another happy week. I’m basically just removing some fan leaves at this stage, trying to make sure light and air can get to as much of the plant as possible. Starting to taper veg nutrients and move to flowering. No recurrence of flies. All good!
Some nice little buds appearing. A few purple stems appearing so have added a little Algamic. No other apparent problems; just been taking off some fan leaves. Really pleased with this past week.
Another week done. Some strong bud growth and trichromes starting to appear. Still growing vertically as well. No problems with bugs or nutes so far either. I’ve stopped the Biogrow and have added a little Algamic.
Started to show some deficiencies this week, so have increased nutes. This is where I start to see the difference in feeding between autos and photos. Good bud growth, vertical growth has pretty much stopped. Lovely to see all the trichromes popping out and the smell is getting stronger. Hopefully the nutes get sorted out this week!
This one is showing potassium and magnesium deficiencies, so have been trying to treat with extra care. Otherwise it seems happy—great bud growth, they’re really taking shape now. Some pistol starting to turn brown, but just the very start.
Gradually starting to see some pistils turning orange, but plenty of growth left. Starting to smell a bit stronger too. A bit of a minor nute issue, maybe potassium? Hoping it’ll finish in the next 3-4 weeks.
Deficiencies all over the place this week. But buds are growing well and plenty more weight to come. Maybe another week or two before flushing for two weeks. Smells strong now.
Really getting into senescence now. Trimmed some dying leaves. It’s still showing signs of deficiencies, I think calcium and potassium, but the buds are still going very well. Very few white pistils left and trichromes are just going milky.
A friend is looking after my plants for a little bit so a short report. They didn’t get watered for a week but seem to be okay. Buds fattening and looking lovely!
first taste after a week of drying: chemical/paint and pine. Lovely mellow head high. Not manic or anything, just a nice calm high. Will update further after the cure.
This is a really nice strain to grow. Forgiving and easy. Not the biggest harvest but it was a small pot size. Smells great and no problems with pests.
