Hello world!
This is my third Grow, the last successful attempt was an Amazon Haze by R-Kien, I planted 3 automatic seeds and all three succeeded till harvest of 45g dry trimmed buds.
Now I come with my new attempt to grow One Tangie seed from SantaSementeBR.
The Grow tent measures 60x60x140 centimeters, I’m using a Vivosun exhaust fan with 190CFM attached to a carbon filter from DNA420 on the outside of the tent (the carbon filter is installed after the fan). The intake is passive though two 150mm ducts installed on the bottom of the ten, both openings of the ducts are sealed with pantyhose to avoid dust and unwanted bugs to come in.
The light is a 200W LED panel made with COB diodes from Bridgelux, by SplinterShop. I’ll leave the panel 30cm from the top of the plant when they germinate.
I also installed a Sonoff with a temperature and humidity sensor turning on and off an outlet controlled by a sonoff zigbee bridge, the humidifier working on this outlet is keeping the humidity between 60-70%.
I pretend to go full organic with this grow, so I’m using organic substrate, worm castings, perlite and vermiculite as base from my soil. I’m also preparing a TLO soil (from the book True Living Organics by The Rev.) to be used on later transplants for vegging and blooming phases. The seeds and the soil was inoculated with mycorrhizal inoculant by Mykos.
Hoping both seeds succeed to germinate!
Let there be seedling!
Last seeds did not succeed to germinate, I got this Tangie seed and planted only 1 seed directly into soil (premix + perlite + vermiculite + worm castings), it took 3 days to sprout from the soil, I added mycorrhizal fungi on the top of the soil, close to the main branch.
The temperature is a little bit out of control, over 32 degrees Celsius during the day, the humidity is low outside, but the Sonoff automation takes control of the humidifier to maintain the rH close to 60-70%.
I’m going on vacation for 5 days, I used an arduino with a relay plugged into a pump, watering the soil 3 times a day: 1 time when the lights turn on, and 2 more times after 8h individually from last watering. Each time it pumps 100-200 ml of dechlorinated water. Hoping for the best during my absence.
Besides that, nothing huge to accomplish this week, just let it grow :)
During the last week the temperature went too high (38 degrees Celsius) and burnt two leaves and left two more wilting. I noted some stunt in growth because of the temperature, but the new ones are thriving.
I’am watering two times a day, the soil looks completely dry on the top and the cup more light, this indicates it’s time for repotting.
I’ll repot to a 7L container on the next days to allow more space for the roots to grow, the soil is the same used for germination, totally organic, I’ll bubble some AACT, and inoculate the soil with the tea and the roots with micorrizal fungi.
I hope the temperate doesn’t hurt the plant anymore, it’s summer and I don’t use an AC unit to keep temperature under control.
Great news!
Thanks a lot for the comments on the last week, the plant was stuck and wilting the lower leaves. The light was too close, since I cannot dim it I just raised the light 10cm. Also the pot was too small, the roots was thin and circling the bottom of the cup.
For the transplant I used a custom made organic soil from recycled soil I had, added the organic fertilizer and let cooking for three weeks, tilting the soil two time during this period.
The pot is a 7L plastic pot, much used for gardening, with a lot of holes on the bottom.
I added some blood meal on the bottom of the pot, to boost the nitrogen levels of the soil and to be available for the plant when the roots reaches the area.
After the transplant I watered with 1L of dechlorinated water to really wet the soil, after that I just watered this morning with 0.7L (one week later). I’ll keep the watering low, and try to achieve zero runoff.
The plant is vigorously growing, the stem is getting thicker and the top leaves have a beautiful green color.
Major growth between weeks are noted here.
I topped the plant a couple of days after the transplant to the 7L pot. My goal is to apply scrog and some more top prune to fill the 60x60cm grow space before starting flowering. Any tips here?
I’m watering every other day, the soil is not completely dry when the next watering time arrives, which is good for organic grow (at least it is what I read on the book True Living Organics by The REV).
I bought a Blumat and it just arrived, I’ll install it on Friday to monitor the soil humidity for the weekend and adjust the flow.
Temperatures fluctuate between 28-32 during the day, at night I actually don’t keep track, especially when the lights are turned off (0-6AM). Humidity stays between 55-70 during the day, I use a humidifier inside the Grow, which is triggered by the Sonoff equipment.
The lights was adjusted this week, to keep the 35cm distance from the top of the plant.
I don’t plan to do anything with her next week, just let it grow
Hi There!
The plant is growing vigorously, the two main stem are thick and some internode leaves start appearing today. The lower branches stretched and are showing the same internode leaves. Today the height of the plant is 32cm and the pot is getting small for the width of the plant. I topped the two main branches and the next below it, just left the first two branches to grow more, and I think I won’t need to top them too.
I installed the Blumat and adjusted to maintain the soil moisture even, I think the plant liked the always wet soil, I just need to make sure that the soil isn’t too wet to avoid root rot or other problems, also to help root development.
The light is 35cm from the canopy, no big needs about this.
I lowered the upper fan, it was above the light panel, now it is blowing the top of the plant, and the other is blowing the bottom.
I’m cooking an AACT and will water the plan when it’s ready, I’m also planning to transplant to the final 50L pot on the next two weeks, also install the first scrog net.
Nice results with organic soil and the new led panel, hopping that the Blumat works perfectly as well.
Cheers!
Sup?!
Last week the plant was transplanted to the final 50L pot, the soil is the same, just with some bottom and top layering to boost the plant when the roots reaches the areas with the nutrients. On the bottom layers added some alfalfa pellets, blood meal, bone meal and a high Nitrogen bat guano. On the top layer I just added some Bokashi and covered with some hay.
I also installed the scrog net and started bending the branches below the net, I broke the main steam by doing that, luckily the branch didn’t died and the plant is not showing any problems today, i wrapped with some tape to prevent further damage. Also I top pruned one more pair of branches below the one I stopped last week, it was showing a thick growth and I decided to use them too. No defoliation was applied since the plant was born.
Removed the Blumat for the transplant, but I’ll return with it after I understand the soil moisture and the plant behavior, to set the almost perfect dripping spot. I thing I’ll need the large Blumat since the pot is deep.
I’ll give one or two weeks for the plant to recover from the stress and to fill the scrog net before switching to flowering.
Hi!
Last week the scrog net was installed and the branches accommodated below the net. During this week the branches thickened and a lot of new bud sites appeared and started growing vigorously. Some of the new growth on the pruned tops stretched, the recently pruned branches does not seem to be at its full power, I guess it’s because the plant focused on the new growth between the nodes, maybe I’ve gone too far with the top pruning, time will tell.
A defoliation was needed to let new growth get more light, also the bottom leaves and new growth was removed.
Nothing was added or modified on the soil since the transplant.
I haven’t reinstalled the Blumat yet, first I need to learn the soil behavior between waterings to find the accurate moisture level. Today I mist a kelp seaweed soluble solution to the leaves (2ml/L).
For the next week I’ll water with the last veg AACT to improve the soil micro life before switching to flowering, hopefully the net will be full with bud sites for the 12/12 hours light cycle I plan to switch this weekend.
I already can feel some smell on the room the grow tent is installed, I got a carbon filter ready to be installed when the smell become stronger.
That all for now, preparing for the flowering weeks ahead :)
Hi!
Since last week I’ve being training the canopy to fill the mesh with promising buds, also I removed some bottom leaves and small nuggets growing below the net, and I think I reached a good size for the vegetation period, so I switched the light to 12/12 period to induce flowering, I haven’t seen any pistils yet, but the calyxes gives me the idea that the plant is a pistillate plant (female).
The Blumat I was using is really small for the pot (50L), I’m using it but also watering manually once a week to keep an even moisture level on the soil. I already bought a Blumat maxi and a couple more drippers.
I made an AACT with worm castings, bone meal, blood meal, high nitrogen bat guano and sugar cane melasse, watered with the tea to boost the first weeks of flowering.
I’m planning to add some High P dry amendments to the soil, below the mulch layer, on the third-fourth week of flowering, and keeping using AACT to boost the microlife of the soil.
The plant is already smelling great, so I already installed the carbon filter outside the grow, after the exhaust fan. I installed this way to leave more room for the light to go up and the plant to stretch more during flower without getting to close to the light panel.
Hi!
Last week the plant started showing her pistils while stretching a lot, I installed a new mesh 15cm above the first one to support the canopy, and she already reached and passed the new net.
I bought 3 more drippers for the Blumat, completing the circle around the pot, I also bought the Blumat maxi to install on the middle of the pot, but I decided not to move forward with the installation because I fought it would do much damage to the roots. I think I finally achieved a good moisture level on the soil, it was more difficult with the larger pot, I think it was too much at the beginning, but the plant is really drinking a lot!
The humidity is a little higher than I expected after the carbon filter was installed, it keep floating between 65-75% which was good for vegetative phase, but dangerous to the flowering stage the plant is currently in. I did some defoliation to try to lower the humidity, but there was no improvement noticed. I’m accepting tips here :)
The light is a little bit closer to the canopy, for now there is no signal of light burn, I’ll keep it closer during the flowering period.
Can’t wait to harvests all this buds!
Hi!
Holy fuck the stretching is out of control! The plant stretched a lot from last week to this one, more than I expected, my tent’s height is 140cm and the light had already reached the top of the tent, I was using the common hangers, which took +-15cm of space. To try to minimize the problem I removed the hangers and fixes the light panel with some zip ties.
The plant will stretch more, so I bought a new 80x80x180cm greenhouse (I already had this dream to buy a larger one), I’m expecting to mount it this weekend to give more room for the plant to grow.
I’m also planning to do some super cropping if things get out of control on the new tent.
Also there are lot of new leaves squished between the branches, which makes the humidity too high for the flowering phase (65-75%), also the light panel is slightly closing the exhaust hole of the tent. there is a snow ball effect going on here, hope the new tent help me fix them.
I added some worm castings with the same nutrient mix from last week on the top layer, below the mulch. Also applied one foliar organic citric protector on the leaves, since humidity is high, I’m improving protection to not leave room for pests to come in.
Hoping that the moving to the new tent don’t cause much stress, and for the problems that start this week to go away.
Peace!
Hi!
The new grow tent arrived and the plant is now living in a 80x80x180cm space, I moved the plant with the first scrog net (the black thicker one) and replaced the second net after the first one was attached to the tent. It was a lot of work to rearrange the branches between the mesh, but the results are great.
Some branches were taller than others, so I applied a supercropping to the tallest ones. This last week was all about recovering for her. And even under a lot of stress the buds continued growing.
Also some defoliation was needed, the stretch was really intensive for this plant. Now at the fourth week I guess the stretch stopped and the focus is now in making buds.
The light panel is the same, ventilations are the same, I just installed the exhaust fan and the carbon filter inside the tent this time, since now I have 40cm more in height. It made things more quiet too, external fans are pretty noisy.
Humidity continues high, 60-70%, this is the major problem I’m facing, I hope I can manage to harvest it without any mold problem.
No nutrients were added last week, just a worm castings tea (AACT), I could see some worms living below the mulch layer, I’m very happy with the soil I built, the plant also liked it, it’s growing without any deficiency.
Now it’s time to watch the buds getting fattier and plan the next soil amendment for the mid-flowering phase.
Peace!
Hi!
No big news since last week, just watching the buds getting bigger and fat, also a lot of new bud sites start appearing.
Humidity was high (70-75%) until this Monday, when the temperature dropped a lot and also did the humidity (50%-55%), I installed a inline fan pushing air inside the greenhouse, I did this hoping it would help the humidity to stay low, but there was no big improvement, just more noise.
The smell is pretty normal, I expected more from this mid-flowering phase.
Everything else going pretty much ok, Blumat doing it’s job, same lights, same exhausting fan and carbon filter.
I’m not planning to add more fertilizer from now on, the pot is pretty big and it’s the first plant to grow in there since amended and prepared, I guess it can take this plant and the next one without much change.
Hi!
Temperature and humidity dropped incredibly in my city, it was good for the plant because the light kept the temperature in a safe range and humidity was below 50%. This week the temperature (and humidity) increased a little bit. Winter is coming.
No big news since last week, so I’ll just stop writing here.
Peace!
Hi!
The smell is so good and citric! The top buds started maturing, pistils are turning orange, I guess harvest time is coming in a couple of weeks. I'll inspect the trichomes with a digital microscope during this week to guarantee the best time to harvest.
No big news about the environment, humidity increased, it’s raining so I can’t keep the humidity lower than 65% because I don’t use an AC.
I’m already thinking about the next cycle, amend the soil, clean everything and pop 4 seeds to plant in the same pot I’m using right now, trying to follow a no-till philosophy, also I’ll keep the cycle as short as possible, no supercropping or other slowing technic.
That’s it for this week :)
Hi!
Nothing has changed since last week besides the buds growing and thickening. Trichomes are still translucent and some of them are starting to go cloudy, pistils are maturing and turning orange. Sugar leafs are full of trichomes as well, I’ll do some hashish with the trim (dry trim).
Added some photos using one simple usb microscope, feeling like a scientists on a lab hahahaha
More a couple of weeks to go :)
Hi!
I’m just watching the plant end it’s cycle, no big news since last week.
Temperature dropped again in my city, last week was raining so humidity was too high (above 70%), even though none sign of diseases appeared.
I took some more pictures of the trichomes with the microscope and they still are translucent. The pistils are yellowing and turning orange, but a lot still white and alive.
Hi!
There is nothing new going on, just monitoring the trichomes and inspecting for mold or plagues, humidity still over 60% and there is nothing I can do about it on my current setup, just the daily inspection.
Trichomes are mostly cloudy with some translucent ones, I could find some that are turning amber, but they are rare.
I estimate that the plant needs one or two more weeks for the harvest.
Not ready yet. A lot more cloudy trichomes, but the amber ones are still rare, I’m looking for a minimum of 10% amber.
Humidity still high for flowering plants, but that is out of my control for now.
I also removed some fan leaves yesterday
Hi!
I harvested the plant this weekend and the results are very good, the plant was healthy her hole life and gave beautiful buds, trichomes were majorly milky and some few amber.
I removed the bigger fan leaves and didn’t trim the buds to provide a slower drying.
The tent was completely clean and sanitized to avoid mold at this critical stage for quality. I also installed a new carbon filter, the older one wasn’t removing all the odor, I could smell weed outside the room the tent is installed.
Didn’t weight and will not weight at all since is for my own consumption and I’m not aiming to improve quantity for now.
After the buds are dried I’ll prune and freeze the trim to make some hash some day and store the buds on sealed glass containers.
The soil was amended with the TLO book receipt and left to cook outdoors, I’ll plant some soil improver plants available in my country to prepare for the next grow cycle, which will be with some Brazilian breeder strain I already got.
That’s it for now :)
