This is only day 2 since I started germination. All 5 of the seeds I started successfully cracked and developed a 1/2 inch tap root. I started with a 12 hour soak in 5 parts water and 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide, and then transferred them to a wet papertowel in a plastic sandwich bag for an additional 12 hours. They have been transfered into Gaia Green Organic Living Soil. They will live inside until the beginning of May and then be transferred outside to grow through the summer directly in the ground and finish outside hopefully in September or early October.
They all popped soil the 3th day after planting, 4th day from start. Day 8 from start, #5 is having a hard time hardening off. 2 are taking off, 2 are average. Day 12 from start, I don't think #5 is going to make it, other 4 are starting to take off.
Quiet week. Gave up on #5 and started a single Ethos Orange Velvet Underground and a single Ethos Cherry Gar-See-Ya to go with the grandpa's stash. The 4 Grandpa's stash are doing great, #4 especially. Will need to introduce some organics soon
I gave up on #5, the other 4 are taking off. Very short internodes, already have 6 sets of nodes at 4-1/2 inches tall. I water with dirty aquarium water with homemade Fermented Fruit Juice, Lactobacillus Serum, and Lentil Seed Sprout Tea added. Still only using T5s for lighting, I will be adding organic nutrients and moving these into a tent in the coming weeks as they get bigger and start to smell more.
This week is going well. Most of the growth this week has been in size rather than new nodes. #1,3 and 4 are all the same, 7 sets of nodes and between 8 and 8.5 inches tall. #2 seems to be a shorter pheno. It has 7 sets of nodes, but is only 6.25 inches tall. It is shorter and more compact. Still under T5s for another couple weeks.
Nothing special really this past week. They are all getting taller, but they have separated into 2 short plants and 2 tall plants. #2 is showing signs of Nitrogen deficiency. I will have to transplant and feed this week. Gaia Green Living Soil has run it's course. I did prune off the bottom single and tri fan leaves off all 4 plants. Tempted to top them but knowing they are going outside I want to see maximum potential without major interference. I will leave them as they are for now.
This week flew by. I transplanted all 4 plants into 3 Gallon pots. I just used Gaia Green Living Soil. Nothing new to upset them, but a little more nutrition until I can get them outside. They moved into the 4x4 tent, and are now under a 600W Eye Hortilux enhanced spectrum super HPS for the next month or so. I may have to consider topping the tall plants to even the canopy and promote side growth, but I really want to see them at genetic full potential without too much training.
So I am starting to doubt the wisdom of starting February 1st. These girls are already a foot and a half tall and the lower growth is suffering. I may consider topping to get them all an even height, but it's a last resort. They won't be able to go outside until early to mid May. Side growth is filling in, and they are recovered from the switch in light intensity for the most part. I apologize in advance for the less than quality pictures. I might switch to a Metal Halide instead of this HPS for better pictures. In a few weeks they will be moving outside and I will have all the sunlight the girls can handle, side growth will be better, pictures will be better. Until then I will try and get better pictures. Maybe I will just pull them out of the tent for a photoset every Sunday. We will see. Still haven't fed them, just the transplant last week into fresh Gaia Green Living Soil. Only #2 is sad, and it's been looking that way since the start.
So, I put the MH bulb in, and took the HPS bulb out. Pictures are better now. I started giving them some outside time when temperatures are warm enough. The tallest is #1 at 28 inch. #2 is only 18 inch. I know #2 had a minor nutrient issue a couple weeks ago, new growth is all good, but I wonder if I stunted her. #3 is 24 inches tall. It is the fullest of the 4 plants. #4 is slow as well, and is 20 inches tall. Side growth on all 4 is good, but #1 is definitely stretchy, large internodal gaps.
First 2 pics are Day 65 from seed. All 4 are showing gender, and loving being outside. I put them out for around 4-6 hours per day, then bring them back in when it starts to get too cool. Redt if the time under the Metal Halide. They are in dark maybe an hour per day. They don't mind 7°C weather apparently, cause growth has not slowed. I noticed a mutation on #1, where one of the fan leaves at the node is growing 2 shoots from the same node, separate from eachother, but attached at the stalk of the plant at the same fan leaf.
Another quiet week, 17 hours under a 600 watt metal Halide lamp inside, 6 hours of sun outside and 1 hour dark. Starting to fill in a bit more under natural light
Another quiet week. I ignored them through Easter weekend and they sure were thirsty today. Everyone bounced back within 20 minutes of watering. Starting to notice a bit of nutrient deficiency on plant #3, but this is not a surprise as it is the densest plant. It was cold this week so they stayed inside under the MH 17 hours per day this week. Another few weeks before it is warm enough outside to plant them in the ground. I may have to feed before then. We will see this next week or so.
Another slow week. They are drinking more, so I have to water more frequently. #3 is showing Nitrogen deficiency, I removed a few yellow fan leaves but it is still the bushiest of the 4. It was another week where it was too cold to bring them outside, so they lived in the tent all week. I will be preparing the outside beds this coming weekend. Hopefully the weather forecast starts looking better, because these girls need to get outside in the ground. #4 is a solid 44 inches tall from soil to top. They can't live in the tent as big as they are.
Another boring week. Last week in these pots. I have kept them outside all week, daytime temperatures are about 12•C and night Temps around 2•C. It's a little cool for the girls, but they are handling full transition well, no die off. I will be transplanting into permanent homes in the garden this weekend.
So I managed to get them in the ground this week. I planted #1, #3, and #4 at my buddies house, he has more land than I do. I kept #2 so I can have weekly pictures, in case I don't visit my buddy one week. #2 I put in a 15 gal bucket, Gaia Green Living Soil.
Another quiet week. Weather is about 15°C during the day, and about 8°C at night. no nutrients, just garden soil, except #2 wh8ch is in Gaia Green soil in a 15 Gallon bucket.
Another quiet week, nothing added, I will have to defoliate a few yellow leaves and add some nutrients to the ones in the ground soon. These girls are starting to show.
So the days are still getting longer here, but the plants don't seem to know it. They are starting to stack and produce many pistils already. I had to defoliate #1, #3 and #4 today and added some Gaia Green all purpose 4-4-4
Another week went by, I fed each plant a 1/4 cup of each : Blood meal, bone meal, kelp meal, feather meal, oyster shell, and alfalfa meal. Days are getting shorter, will be stretching early August I imagine
Another quiet week, missed a week due to medical reasons, but I am back on track. Days are getting shorter, plants are stacking nice, I expect them to start stretch at the beginning of August
So #2 was root bound. I planted it in the ground as well. All the plants stop getting taller around 5 ft tall. They continue to stack nice and bush out.
