Agricola_Borealis This is still germination, but it seems that this forum This is mostly been the week I was away, it had lassted a week without any sign of life, my girlfriend has been here last weekend to controll the humidity of the soil and geven a bit of water, she said it was still moist when she found it but no reaction.

Agricola_Borealis I had left the buckets in the window pane, for a week, my girlfriend had controlled it and given it only a ittle bit of water, because it seemed still nicely moist but she had seen no sign of life lastsunday. I returned home, and YESS. The frisian dew has germinated, the weathe forecast is excellent! Sunny and warm for the time of year! I am satisfied with this germination method. I had to leave home for a week and the seed has germinated nicely in my absence. Now I keep my fingers crossed. This one was very slow germinating, between 10 and 14 days, but she looks healthy, tomorrow I am going to work in the garden, two more Frisian dews are going to be seeded, and I have to decide which automatics I am going to order, last year there has been a mould disaster mid summer. The spot for the Big one has allready been prepared mid winter cow and chicken manure, eggshells and kitchen scraps, which the worms are feasting upon I reckon Very glad Itook the risk of starting beore easter, Now i Have the first plant, and the weather forecast is good. 26 april. They had some trouble digging themselvesin so I dug a small hole in the soil near the sideof the bucket and covered them with some soil. I allso punched three holes with my finger and filled them with dry manure, to give them something to eat. If things go well they will munch the cowshit, and convert this into worm poo. 28 april, the forecast has deteriorated, about 30 % of sun for the coming week, plant stilllooks healthy, but I miss the sun, today was completely grey, until late in the afternoon when the sun is allready behind the buildings to the west, hope the worms are doing fine.

Agricola_Borealis Mushrooms: Yesterday evening I saw a couple of very cute little mushrooms in the pot with Dieuwke, must live of the cowdung I mixed with the soil! Beautifull! this means that funghi allready are decomposing the dung I mixed in. I thought I would try to make a picture of these mushrooms today, but they are allready mostly whithered today. But funny that there is life in the bucket Last week the most important variable was the amount of sunshine, weather is dry and cool, and rain would be very welcome for my garden, Plant is doing fine, I allso seeded an automatic, allso in a 10 liter bucket in "gardening soil" which is sold to improve your garden, It is a bit more solid than potting soil, and is less fertilized than "potting soil" This year I mix a bit of cow and chicken shit through the soil near the bottom, the rest I fill up with just soil, so that the top layer will be poorer during germination, when the plant has its second pair of leaves I will introduce the earthworms and some more dried dung. A friend of mine dropped by tuesday night and left me an automatic seed and a lamp for houseplants in the shape of a tetrapus, Ihave no idea if it does anything, it israther week, so in the afternoon the plant goes outside, While busy I am allso going to seed two peppers, one big mid one, and onevery hot habanero type of pepper. 30 april. It was all aout soil and humidity, but certainly about the frustration of gloomy overcast weather, low clouds from the North Sea covering my part of the netherlands for days in a row. 1-5 first of may, the day started with some sunlight through high level cloud, but it got sunnyer during the day, this evening I am going to seed my other two frisian dews, and I allready have made a beginning for the autoflowering I still have to buy, I filled a 20 liter untill 15 centimeters below the edge, wwith a mixture of potting soil, gardening soil, a bit of soil from my garden for microorganisms a bag of endive from my mother in law, some kitchen leftovers from the balcony, dried cow and chicken manure, some seaschells and some eggshells to prevent the decomposing matter to become too acidic and I collected a coupe of dozens of earthworms, and put this in the bathroom to further decompose, if it is going to smell I can allways put it outside, but for now the bathroom seems the best place. My girlfriend dropped by and she had a big leek, which I chopped and put on top of it, I did not mix the leek through the soil, because I am afraid that worms don't like things from the union family, so I put it on top. Dieuwke is hanging outside in the sun, and looks very happy! I wonder how fast she wil grow having germinated one seed immediately in a 10 liter bucket, mushrooms have appeared a couple of days ago, so the cowpoo is being processed by funghi, and yesterday I added a second dozen of worms who will allso decompose the dung. So I guess she wil have plenty of nutrients untill she is big enough to be planted in the earth. Now, when the sun of may is coming through I am very happy that I germinated in a 10 liter bucket in stead of the small 1-liter buckets from previous years, which were a bit stressfull, drying out very quickly In this bucket the plant can grow unhindered for the first couple of weeks, and I don't think that I will have nutrition issues either. If the worms are doing well I can just feed them by poking holes in the soil with my finger and feed the worms with cow and chicken manure. 2-may, Another sunny day😀 Laughing my ass of because of some fellow-Dutchmen who wrote that I was waaay too early, that I shouldhave wayted till after the "icy saints" (11-15 may) the last period in which you can expect freezing temperatures at night. After a couple of gloomy days my plant has had two perfect sunny days, in the morning in my living room behind a window, and the afternoon out of the wind in the warmth of the sun. This autumn I am going to buy growing leds, in the first place to improve my own mood, but with the help of electric light next year I could start a plant at 21 of march to create a true monster in autumn. This year I am on the early side, but that is my idea of IJsheiligen (icy saints) At 15 may I will probably have a plant big enough to plant in my garden, surrounded by my rain proof slug-traps. The soil near the bottom ofthe bucket is still a bit on the wet side, so for the coming plants I used a different mixture, but the plant is growing full speed now, and two dozens of wormsare working on the structure of the substrate, so everything up till now is going according to plan. I think the parsley is waiting for rainy weather to germinate, Parsley can take ages to germinate. 4-may. Perfect growing conditions, still low temoeratures, but a lot of light! At schiphol Airport it is 14 degrees C, 57 Fahrenheit, but out of the wind conditions are perfect. Top layer is drying out, but near the bottom still plenty of moisture. A seedling in a bucket does not need watering dayly, so the only thing I can do is move the plant to the window at night and when the sun comes to my porch put her there. Hard to imagine that such a tiny plant can grow to a three meter tree in one season. I think I will let the pot dry out for another couple of days and then poke holes with my finger and put in more manure. And a generous soking and some more worms. Nothing to do? well, since the storms at the end of winter in western Europe, it is dry, so I think I will do a lot of work in the garden. I still have an enourmous bag of cow- andchicken manure, so I'll clear a lot of weeds, and in stead of letting it dry out I will give after after raking the poo in. This year I am not going to till the soil, and let the worms do the job. I am planning to allso seed some nice tomatoes and hang a courgette plant in a slug free bucket. No sign of germinating parsley yet, but the seeds were two years old. and parsley hasits own will germinating maybe it is waiting for a rainy week, athough I keep the tub moist. Allso tinking for next year for the fun, a pot with a window of transparent plastic to monitor the worms.

Agricola_Borealis 5 Mei Plant is now for about 15 days above ground. Mornings inside behind window afternoon on a sheltered sunny spot outside, Conditions have been changing, on sunny days she grows, on cloudy days little happens, last couple of days she has grown noticeable per day, and the weather forecast for the coming two weeks is excellent, but we will have to see that. I would love to know what is going on inside the pot, I planted her in gardening soil which is a bit more solidthan potting soil, but with some dried cow and chicken poo mixed in, and I added earthworms when she was a week old. The top layer is drying up a bit while near the buttom it is still on the humid side, so the "gardening soil" is not transporting water from bottom to top as well as potting soil but this has allso an advantage, that the bottom part does not evaporate as quickly, so I can leave her alone for longer. I can easily check humidity by poking my index finger in a drainage hole. I think I won't give any water untill the bottom part allso feels drier, and then poke some holes with my finger, fill them up with cow-and chicken, and put it under my garden sprinkler, I am going to water my garden anyway.
