Setting up the grow room, got my seeds all set for germination. I am germinating 5 seeds and my hope is to get 3 full plants by the end of this grow. It should be clear to anyone that watches this progress that I am learning as I go. My goal at the end of this is to have 3oz of dried bud between the 3 full plants. We will see what plants survive my general lack of knowledge.
Day 1 - Placed into a Jiffy Pellet to germinate.
Day 7 - Starting to get worried about this girl, she still hasn't come out to say hello. I do have 3 plants that have come through the soil so all isn't lost. I will give her another few days to see if she comes out to visit. She is an auto-flower, so I would not be too upset if she stayed dormant a bit longer.
Day 9 - She has finally decided to come above ground. I was very pleased to see this when I opened my tent today. I thought for sure I had a dud.
Day 10 - She is up, but her bottom leaves look like they are damaged. The 2 new leaves look fine. I checked it with my microscope, and I didn't see any bugs. I'll have to monitor the situation.
Day 11 - You can really see the deformation in her bottom 2 leaves. I wonder if this is why she took so long to germinate. Her new leaves are coming in as expected so I'm not too concerned yet. Decided to feed my ladies today, they each got their first drink of nutrients along with 500ml of water.
Day 12 - The last of my girls to come above ground. She is an auto flower plant and seems to be growing at a faster pace than my other girls through her first 3 days above ground. Even though her bottom 2 leaves are damaged it doesn't seem to be slowing her down any. I have decided to name this girl Daisy for no specific reason at all.
Day 13 - She is growing, she is my only auto so I look forward to really marking her progress against her sisters. Daisy got a lot taller overnight so that has been pleasing. Her leaves also grew a bit.
Day 14 - Daisy is a bit delayed in her growth because it took her 9 days to germinate. It amazes me what a difference there are in these plants over as little as a 4 day period. It doesn't look like her deformity has hurt her yet. So here is to hoping for a strong third week from Daisy.
Day 15 - Hard to be impressed by the smallest plant in the tent. I am just happy she wasn't a complete dud. This is my only auto so I don't mind her being a bit behind the others. She seems to be keeping pace with my other girls as far as growth at this stag above ground. I just hope that she doesn't flower early on me.
Day 16 - Some growth overnight, she looks the healthiest of my plants right now and that is concerning.
Day 17 - Discolored and no growth overnight. I am not sure if she will survive another day.
Day 18 - She looks much better today. I will continue to monitor her progress. She had some new growth overnight and popped up by about 2cm.
Day 19 - Daisy looks good today. Quite happy with her progress.
Day 20 - Not as easy to get excited about her as the others. Mainly because she has only been above ground for about 11 days really. She is growing at the same pace as the other girls did. I'm actually happy in retrospect that she is about 5 days behind the rest as they are all photoperiod plants. I intend to flip the light on them into veg between weeks 5 and 6 depending upon size.
Day 21 - Dramatic change overnight. She is really taking form and at this point appears to be my healthiest plant.
Day 22 - The healthiest of my plants so far. She is the only auto though. I am happy to see her grow quite a bit the past 24 hours.
Day 23 - She went from being the red headed step child to being my all star in a matter of days. She is looking fantastic so far. Very excited to check in on her every day now.
Day 24 - She got some water today. Great growth and a good looking plant. I still got a bit to wait until I can start LST on her.
Day 25 - I decided to top her today and did some LST. She really had a tremendous amount of growth last night. Likely the biggest 24 hour change in a plant I have seen yet.
Day 26 - Great night for her overall. The LST appears to have worked as she curled upwards. She is looking happy and healthy at this point. I topped her last night before bed, so we will see what happens.
Day 27 - In a rush today, won't be much of an update. Just a picture
Day 30 - This is her 22nd day above ground. I would expect to see some flowers begin sometime this week or early next week as she is an auto. Great growth and the smell from her is getting strong.
Day 31 - No sign of pistols yet. The topping appears to have worked, and she is growing taller again. I did some more LST on her today and I am hoping I can get to the next week before she becomes an awkward teenager.
Day 32 - I spoke too soon. I think we have our first lady parts today. She looks good today, and I spent some time bending her around to try to span her out. I'll keep an eye on the pistols as I want her to grow out a bit more before flowering.
Day 33 - She is starting to put a bit of distance between nodes. That likely is the sign that she is stretching. I will be putting in my scrog when I flip the other girls, so she will have to wait. I trimmed up her fan leaves a bit and tied a couple down to try to encourage them to go in another direction.
Day 34 - The stretch appears to be real. Tons of spacing between leaves now compared to just 3 days ago. She is now my tallest plant. I will be giving her some bloom nutes tonight with her water.
Day 35 - All of her nodes are now getting sun in some direct way. I did some minor LST on her today to try to help those nodes go exactly where I want them. Overall I am very happy with her. The pre flowers are becoming more pronounced now. Next week will be marked as flowering for her as it is clear she is now a lady.
Day 36 - We have some clear flowers now, and she has gone from my shortest plant to my tallest in a matter of 3 days. The stretch is real. I see a bunch of different possible bud sites starting, The pistols are distinct now instead of being very small. She did a lot of maturing overnight. I'll be putting in my scrog tomorrow.
Day 38 - Really exciting seeing the budding sites starting to form. She is stretching about an inch every day all around right now. The tops are becoming pronounced and my hands are starting to stink after handling her. Starting to get a bit excited about this one.
Day 39 - She keeps getting taller all around and those bud spots are getting bigger.
Days 40/41/42 - Progress is great, really happy with how she has spread out during the stretch so far. She has a bunch of bud sites that have started and seems to put on about an inch a day.
Day 43 - White Pistols look great. Added about another inch overnight, I'm going to raise my lights here soon. She has spread out nicely, but I think I have to put the scrog in soon.
Day 44 - Bud sites keep getting larger. The smell is much mellower than the rest of the girls and that strikes me as odd given she is in flower.
Day 45/46 - Starting to get dry, but still some water at the bottom of the pot and not real sign of wilting. So I will wait until tomorrow to water. Getting some nice spacing between the nodes now.
Day 47 - Did some LST to her today. Basically opened up the middle a bit so that each branch has access to light. She is getting taller every day, and she has a bunch of different but sites.
Day 48 - I fed her some water with nutes and measured her. She is 14" tall right now.
Day 50 - Trimmed a few leaves, but didn't do much. She was getting light in the pot, but her leaves are still pointing upward so I will wait to water her.
Day 51 - She got some water today and I turned her around a bit in the tent. Trying to get some sun everywhere possible. She is getting about 2 liters of water every other day now. She is also starting to put off quite the smell.
Day 52 - A light trim for her today. Trying to open up the middle a bit so some of the smaller bud sites can develop.
Day 53 - Move some branches around today, that was it.
Day 54 - Removed 1 leaf that got mangled when I was moving her around. Bud sites are starting to show a bit of browning on some of the pistols. Had a lot of growth overnight. I'll be switching her to the KoolBloom powder on Monday. A good change night over night in the size of the bud sites. I am starting to get excited.
Day 55 - Got my DSLR working and decided to take some photos of her.
Day 56 - She got some water today with the koolbloom liquid again. I'm switching her over to powder on her next feed.
Day 57 - She is no longer stretching. All of her growth appears to be focused on producing flowers. The tips of her flowers are starting to brown a bit, and she is starting to smell almost fruity. Not skunky like the other plants. Lots of Trichomes on the buds, looking forward to seeing what the koolbloom powder does to her.
Day 58 - Downgrading her smell level to normal. She is not as strong as she once was. She is getting slightly taller, but not by much. Her buds are starting to put on some thickness. She will be getting the first KoolBloom powder feed tomorrow. I hope that helps her beef up over the next few weeks.
Day 59 - Feeding day today. Nothing else to report, she has a really odd smell right now. Almost fruity with a hint of manure.
Day 60 - I hope she likes the KoolBloom powder. Hopefully I can get some thickness on these buds and really increase her yield. Her Trichs are still clear.
Day 61 - Buds look like they are thickening a bit. That makes me happy.
Day 62 - A bit bigger today. Doesn't smell like weed though, has a really odd odor to her. Some rust spots starting on the leaves from the last feeding. I'll have to dial back the nutrient level.
Day 63 - Some ph'd water with calmag today. Trying to minimize the rust spots forming on the leaves. She will get more nutes in a couple days. The trichomes are still clear, so still a ways to go.
Day 64 - Buds are looking thicker, her smell is getting stronger. Though she still smells strange to me. Not at all like marijuana. The trichomes are still clear, so I have a bit more growth for her before harvest. I'll be keeping an eye on them for when they start to turn. I still expect at least another week before I chop.
Day 65 - I didn't notice any trichomes that have started to become clear. Bud sites are starting to add some density and plenty of calyxs on lower bud sites, so it appears she still has a bit of growth left.
Day 66 - Haven't really noticed a change in her today. Buds are hopefully getting a bit more dense. Trichomes are still clear.
Day 67 -Still clear, and starting to get beefy.
Day 68 - Gave her some water and nutes yesterday. Buds are looking good, but still seeing some new calyx development under the buds. Seeing some trichomes have gotten milky, but the majority are still clear.
Day 69 - Trichomes are still clear. Some of the buds underneath the tops are getting large. She smells sweet, almost like a fresh cut pepper.
Day 70 - Seeing some milky trichomes this morning, but it looks to be like 10%, still a ways to go yet.
Day 71 - About 20% of the trichomes are now milky, the rest are still clear. Getting closer to harvest, going to have to figure out how to dry this girl soon.
Day 72 - Seems to be about 50-80% cloudy trichomes now. I will be giving her the chop later today. I can't believe the time has come to harvest. I will be waiting until I have 20% brown trichomes on my other grows, but this girl was purchased to provide an uplifting high and I don't want to end up with something that gives me couch lock.
The harvest went well. It took me about 2 hours to complete the trimming of the buds. They are airy buds, and not very dense. The wet smell is of freshly trimmed grass, pepper, and a sweet smell. It is a really interesting odor. I made a drying box to hand in my tent, it looks like crap but it should work. I'll be checking on the buds in 3 days time to see if they are dry enough to can up. Once they are properly dried, i'll be adding some closeup shots of the bud and putting her into jars. Plus I'll be smoking some of her and I will update with a smoke report. Very happy with my first grow, I learned a lot and I had a great deal of fun along the way. Check back in for an update here on Friday or Saturday. Happy growing everyone.
Update on drying the buds. The buds have lost just over 100g of water weight so far after 36 hours in my drying box. I suspect it will be ready to go on Friday. I was actually surprised at how much smaller the buds got during the first 36 hours of drying. Still has a strong sweet smell though, hopefully they keep that into cure.
Drying has finished and my final yield is just over an ounce at 30g. I am very pleased with this result from this plant. She smells wonderful even before curing and she has a great fruity sweet smell. I look forward to seeing what the cure brings out in her over the next few weeks. I'll be lighting some up later tonight and I will update tomorrow with a smoke report.
