This is my first ever grow. Now that the laws in New York have changed and there is easier access to seeds in my area I have decided to test my hand at growing auto flower seeds. I have planted and successfully grow apples, blueberries and an annual vegetable garden for the past 8 years. Like everything else, there is a tremendous amount of information on growing, how to grow, what to use, products, etc. For a beginner it can be overwhelming and if one isn't careful they can end up spending ridiculous amounts of money that's really unnecessary for someone just starting out. There is endless advice online from different people who all have their own methods, tips and tricks. I figure the best way to learn is by trial and error such as how I did the very first time I planted my vegetable garden. I'm not flying by the seat of my pants. I've definitely done extensive research and made notes of things that are of vital importance, but sometimes too much can make your head spin and I am not sure I would have ever attempted a vegetable garden if I had read about it first instead of actually getting out and doing it.
My grow tent size is 4ft x 2ft x 6ft, with two full spectrum 1000 watt LEDs. Lights are set at 18 hours on, 6 hours off. I have a small two speed clip fan. A small cool mist vaporizer to increase the humidity inside the tent. I purchased a Govee hygrometer & thermometer that works via bluetooth on my iPhone. It comes with an app that allows you to monitor the grow tent conditions remotely and see a daily chart.
I am still doing research on an air filtration system for the grow tent. Vivosun has a 4 inch carbon filter, with multi speed fan and ducting for a decent price. Still trying to figure out what my best choice would be without also breaking the bank, or maybe just a 4 inch duct fan and one more clip fan using the air vents on the tent. I'll figure it out. The lights being LEDs don't put much heat off so I'm thinking a filter system would possibly cool the tent down too much?
Day One - Planting Barney's Farm Purple Punch Auto seeds directly to Fox Farms Happy Frog soil in 5 gallon fabric grow bags. Using distilled water before dropping the seed, covered it with more soil and misted the top of the soil with more water. Using a 4 inch clear plastic drip catcher upside-down with a few holes drilled into it to keep the seeds covered until they pop.
Day Two - Sprayed the soil with water around the plastic dome covered seeds. Put small vapor mister inside the tent to increase the humidity. LED lights are on 18/6, 24 inches from the pots, humidity is 80% temperature is 77-80 F.
Seeing this is Anunnaki Garden the first 3 plants will be named after them. Marduk, Enki, and Tiamat π±
Day Four - All 3 seeds have sprouted. The smallest of the 3 seeds sprouted first but it looks like its either too damp or it is starting to suffer from nutrient burn. The other two sprouts are nice and healthy. I'll take the humidity dome off and let it get air see what happens.
I picked up a decent little humidifier that can be set at a specific humidity and left to do its work. Once it reaches the set humidity it shuts off until the humidity drops to which it randomly comes on and turns off to maintain the setting. I also installed a Mars Hydro carbon filter and ventilation system. Grabbed it on sale for 4/20. It is automatic so I can also set the maximum temperature and maximum humidity and it will maintain the ideal environment for the ladies to grow. It looks like the one seedling is suffering from some type of nutrient burn from the Happy Frog soil. I haven't added anything to the soil and they were all started with distilled water.
