So the light I have is actually a Phytomax-3 4SP (though it came with a 8SP label on the light housing.) The Phytomax-3's weren't listed so I chose the closest 2 that I could (OK, so maybe it's closer to the 2-400, I'm not sure.) Seed was planted 3/26/22. Planted in Sunshine Mix #4 mixed with some additional perlite. Decided to go "natural" and just put the seed in the "final home" pot. Planted with humidity domes. I think in retrospect I buried it a little too deep as it took about 4 days to germinate. Go lighter the next time. (This could also be a temperature thing as I think the tent was a tad cold, looked a heating mat, but never pulled the trigger.) Did the whole pot water method (soak the whole pot). At some point when I can spend more time with them, it would be good to try the spot watering technique. After planting added 50 mL of water on seed site each day. Sprayed inside of dome. Jack 47 came up first (late on 3/30). Dome came off when the first set of "true" leaves was there. Light was on 18/6 at 16" above the soil (aka the canopy at this stage.) Ranged around with a heater (oil filled radiator) outside the tent. Would like to try and get something appropriate for inside at some point, but wasn't thrilled as all the small ones were ceramic blocks that just looked like fire hazards. Positioned passive air intake "over" the heater (draped over the back of a chair so it picks up the warm air coming off the top of the heater.) Only had to water at the end of week. The pot dried out very suddenly. (3 gal fabric.)

The pattern was to apply the nutes the first time I watered after the first week that she was up. The second watering was just water. Nothing special this week. Just letting her do her thing. Playing around with the environment and stuff like that. Having a time getting the temps stable. It doesn't seem to be impacting her, but I worry. Ordered humidifier as she seem to be a bit dry. Late in the week noticed a little leaf cupping and found that the high temp on the controller was higher than I thought it was, so I dropped it.

The Phytomax-3's weren't listed so I chose the closest 2 that I could (OK, so maybe it's closer to the 2-400, I'm not sure.) She continues to do her thing. Humidifier added 4/10. Set it to 55% RH. 4/11 light watering as I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it tomorrow when I think she's really going to be due again. She seems happy and everything is pretty carefree. I sometimes wonder why I was so nervous about this. 4/13 Jack is already at 4 nodes. Started doing some leaf tucking as I can already see where flower sites will likely be and making sure the bigger fan leaves that have developed aren't shading anything too much.. I'm still struggling a bit with keeping the environment steady, but she's reminding me that the plant got it's nickname for a reason. 4/14 she got nutes again. Towards the end of the week I noticed a small brown spot on one of the Jack 47 leaves (see the only surviving picture from this week, whoops, be careful of what you delete) and freaked out. Did a bit of poking around and I suspect that it's an Mg deficiency, so I ordered some Mag Pro to go with my general dyna grow. Again, she got one feeding and one watering with plain, pH'd water. Also added a humidifier this week as the RH was dropping (it got warm and dry here.)

She got just plain water. 4/18 Started LST on Jack. 4/20 Gave nutes plus Mag Pro. As a forward looking thing that will have put an end to the brown spots. 4/21 Showing sex. Stilly playing with the environment especially with that happens when the lights are off. The controller seems to trip on the high humidity tolerance and then the ventilation fan runs. If the heater isn't placed well, the fan runs alot and goes into a "death spiral", the temp drops and the RH stays up. If I keep the heater positioned right, that cycle never happens as the temp stays high enough for the RH to not be an issue. ***Height on Jack is being attenuated by LST.*** Somehow I managed to duplicate this week. What follows are the notes from the duplicate week. So the light I have is actually a Phytomax-3 4SP (though it came with a 8SP label on the light housing.) The Phytomax-3's weren't listed so I chose the closest 2 that I could (OK, so maybe it's closer to the 2-400, I'm not sure.) Continue with the training. It's kinda hard to keep up with jack. At the end of the week I took a few leaves off as I couldn't tuck anymore. 4/17 plain water. 4/20 Nutes. Raised light again to keep up with increasing height.

The Phytomax-3's weren't listed so I chose the closest 2 that I could (OK, so maybe it's closer to the 2-400, I'm not sure.) Jack is clearly in flower. NL is showing some pistils but they aren't nearly as developed. Swapped over to bloom nutes for both. Finally broke down and took leaves off of NL as too many big fan leaves were blocking too many flower sites. I think the genetics of the NL pheno are kinda borked. Just letting her go to see what happens. I'm getting kinda psyched about Jack. Need a filter to take pics through, also need to find the batteries so I can use a real macro lens. Have carbon filter set up to scrub the tent air. Think I need another filter on the exhaust. 4/23 is when I gave the first bloom nutes. 4/25 did some more defoliation on NL and a leaf or two on Jack (there where just a couple I couldn't keep off of buds.) 4/26 Nutes for both. 1 Gal per pot. Did some more leaf tucking on NL and adjusted her LST. Left Jack alone, she's stretching, sorta. Isn't this supposed to be faster? There is one bud that will probably have to go, I don't think it will keep up with the rest. Will look again either tomorrow or the next day and make a call on it. Ordered another carbon filter. Will either use it on the exhaust (first filter is scrubbing air inside tent.) Scrubbing is working OK, but when the fan runs alot during lights off I've noticed a slight odor when I open the basement door. If I can control the order with temps and etc, I'll use the extra carbon on the drying tent I'm already seeing that I'm going to have to get as I don't think NL will be ready when Jack is.) Got some shots with the macro lens. 4/27 Adjusted the LST on the Northern Lights and actually put another pot riser under her to make her more even with the Jack. Northern Lights is sorta getting stretchier, but still nothing compared to Jack. The pot riser came up because it was time to raise the light again for Jack and I wasn't really comfortable with having NL being left behind like that. Remembering now that Jack is an XL cultivar and that I probably shouldn't have grown her with a strain that wasn't (and worse was just a freebie that came with my first seed purchase, but live and learn.) Both plants will likely need water/food again tomorrow. They are both consuming at a good rate. The second carbon filter got here, but it's going to take some real work to get it in place and the top of the tent is going to get crowded. I'm seriously thinking about putting it outside one the floor, but that will also take some doing as I'll have to adjust the ducting.

04/28 She both dried out enough to need water/food today This was at the 10 ml/gal Mag Pro rate as I didn't notice it was supposed to drop after the first flower week. She got a gallon. Jack continues to be an easy dream. The buds are fattening up and the lemon notes when I touch the flowers is amazing. There's still that one interior bud that I probably need to get out of there.. No pics today as I was in a hurry and just barely had time to mix the nutes and water. 04/29 No pics again, was in a big rush. Need to get some this weekend. 4/30 ended up having to interrupt her "nap" to get photos (my light cycle is off set so that the lights are off mid morning to mid afternoon for temperature control reasons (having the lights on over-night means less need to for external heat.)) She was slightly droopy as a result. I gotta get my macro kung fu back and find the softbox lights. Contemplating some additional thinning. 5/1 Watered/fed Jack. The pot was super light. Jack flowers are getting sticky and smell lovely. 5/2 Just a quick look. Jack is looking really good. 5/3 I was expecting to water both today, but while the pot was light, the top of the soil still seems damp, so I'm letting it go. She's for sure going to be ready tomorrow. Snapped a few more macro shots, including an attempt at a focus stack. We'll see how that comes out. When she's next to Jack the lemon that Jack is giving off over powers everything else. The trichomes on Jack's sugar leaves are going cloudy, but the flowers are still quite clear. I feel like she might be finishing early, but it seems way, way too early at this point that the pistils/stigmas are still very white. Just being patient trying to freak out or worry about how big/dense they buds are going to be. 5/4 Did some lollipopping . Jack got watered and fed. Seeing some little brown spots on a couple of leaves in Jack, but think they're old signs of the Mg deficiency I had back in the earlier weeks.

5/5 She's looking good. The Jack flowers are getting fatter. The trichomes are not getting cloudy on the flowers, but they sure are on the sugar leaves. In working the focus stack images I'm noticing that some of the pistils are going orange. The scents in the tent are getting amazing. 5/7 She got water and nutes. Everything looking good. The lemon notes coming off of Jack are amazing. The second carbon filter on the exhaust really did the trick in terms of of killing any escaping odor. Feeding was at the rate of 10 ml/gal of Bloom. 5/8 Today was a freak-out day. My morning visit to the tent made me feel terrible. I was sure I'd burned Jack with either the nutes or the lights or maybe both. All the tops on Jack were showing brown between the veins on the leaves, etc. I raised the light up a bit, pulled the two tallest tops down and started looking around for what I screwed up. Long story short is that nothing really quite fit. At some point, several hours in, I sort of realized that not only where the leaves brown, but so were a bunch of the pistils on the flowers (OK, book of Duh!, I remember noticing that a couple of days back but not really putting 2 and 2 together.) That's when it hit me. Even though it seems a bit early (she's supposed to have between 3 and four more weeks), I think Jack is starting to fade. The pistils are going orange and she's getting what appears to be fall colors. I didn't look at the trichomes, I need to do that today. I also know that I'm going to have to get a drying area set up. 5/9 OK, the trichomes on Jack are definitely getting cloudy all over, but the change in pistil coloration is not even or consistent. Some are clearly orange and others are still very white. As a guess the trichomes are like 60% cloudy, maybe more. I decided I'd flush her so I pushed 2 gal of pH'd water through her and then fed her at the rate of 5 mL/gal bloom. 5/10 Flushed again per some advice from other growers. The pH going in was 6.2, the pH coming out was 5.8/5.9 (it kept flipping back and forth.) Checked carefully for bud rot but the stems and cores of the flowers seem to be fine (I did sacrifice a small, but heavily impacted bud, it was solid all the way through.) Removed the brown leaves. Nothing new has gone brown or wilted since. I'm beginning to think it was salt built-up or something similar. I dropped my TDS meter and broke it, so I won't ever really know that answer. I'm beginning to also think I should have stuck with alternating plane water with fertilizer.

So I'm very torn about what's going on with my Jack 47 Auto. There's part of me that feels I may have burned her, and another part that thinks she's just finishing early. I have details in the diary. Any insight about what I did "wrong" would be great!

That’s definitely not natural fade or end of life signs.. Plants look over fertilized to some extent and I’d bet you would have something throwing off pH or EC in the rhizosphere.. salt build up maybe. Lots of possibilities

5/11 So back to chugging along. The most heavily impacted cola on Jack may be toast (it just doesn't seem as "vibrant" as the rest, it's still very solid and showing no signs of necrosis, but the rest seem to bouncing back, but not the one. c'est la vie I guess.) The rest of stabilizing nicely. The pot is still SUPER heavy after the flush. While I thanked everyone directly who answered my recent question to the community, I just want to publicly say THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to answer. You all are the reason this community is awesome! 5/12 Well, things are stabilized. Jack is perking back up. The badly burned colas are still sad, but the rest of the plant is looking OK, the burned colas are stable and not showing any more signs of issues (beyond their current sad state.) AT SOME POINT TODAY I REALIZED THAT I DUPLICATED A WEEK SO I'VE FIXED THAT. THE DUPLICATED WEEK WAS 3/4, SO MERGED THEM INTO THE CURRENT WEEK 3 (THAT EXPLAINS WHY 'LOST' THE PICTURES... I WAS JUST CONFUSED.) 5/13 OK, well, she was dry enough to require water again. I fed lightly. I just can't seem to catch a break. Jack continues to be stable. The buds with the wilted leaves continue to look sad, but remain firm and otherwise sound. 5/14 She's back to looking as respectable as she can. She came out of the tent this morning for some beauty shots. I sill have plenty of work to do on my macro game. When I had her out Jack has a strong, citrusy odor that's very, very nice. 5/17 I should have watered yesterday, but didn't want to be too heavy handed. She was more wilty than I liked when I checked this morning, but there's nothing for it, so I watered. She'll get fed again next time. Didn't have time for more pics, but she's substantively unchanged from the last time. I want to play with more stacks, but we'll see about that.

5/18 Plant is still plenty wet/heavy. She seems to be doing pretty well, Jack's pistils are all going really brown. 5/19 still don't need water. 5/20 I took a few pics this morning, but she seems good as she is. 5/22 I don't know why, but I decided to start adding molasses to this. It seems harmless enough, we'll see. She got fed, lightly, and watered today. Jack's buds are just insane. Added a dehumidifier to the room where the tent is yesterday. The exhaust fan seems to be much more under control, it's runs, but shuts off. I think temp management will become a thing next. I keep missing one frame at either end of my attempted stacks. I gotta find a way to see the focus point better, I apparently can't trust my eyes on the gg focus screen the way I used to. 5/23 So I checked calendars and all that. It looks like Jack is "supposed" to be finished on or about June 1. At the rate she's fading I'm wondering if she'll make that. I'm starting to see a few amber tri-chromes. 5/24 I think after today there's going to be no more nutrients. Just water. 5/25 She's trucking on but definitely fading. I see a couple (and I mean literally 1 or 2) amber trichomes. I wonder how much longer these should go.

Starting this week, she's only getting water. I'm thinking I'm going to harvest next week. To say that I'm stoked is an understatement. 5/26 Still pretty heavy from the last feed/watering. Most of the trichomes are cloudy and there are a few amber cropping up (but not at all many.)

I think the next time I run this strain, I'll start training earlier and mind the nutrients a bit more. I'm anxious to get it dried and cured, but for now it's all just a waiting thing... In retrospective, there're some things that I'm going to be doing differently in the next run (it'll be different genetics for variety): * Use 5 gallon pots * Start with mycorrhizae and likely some lactobacillus (not sure if I'm going to do Recharge or just a tea from the leaf mold in my yard.) * Higher light hanging height now that I've got the actual chart from the manufacturer. * I need to be better at looking lower on the plants. I had a couple of total larf buds that I missed in earlier inspections and only saw when I cut the entire canopy off. * I think I under filled my pots last time, so I'm going to go a bit higher with the media.
