Apr 28: what the hell, I’m going to try growing a Jamaican sativa outdoors at 53 N latitude (Edmonton). I’ll be force flowering photoperiod plants in early July, and I’m going through the hassle of covering them to flower, I might as well also try something more exotic. Was just going to try this indoors in future, but I was inspired by Njanne’s outdoor Lambsbreath from last year. I’m way further North than southern Ontario so the light cycle is way different, but I’m going to try anyway. Force in early July for late September harvest. Hopefully.
July 28: last night of 12:12 light cycle.
July 31: second round of Power Bloom and malt as top dressing. Also started using soluble wood ash for K. See today’s Gorilla Gelato diary entry for details.
Nice plant that has always been a bit more green than ideal. Everybody gets the same water mix so this plant just doesn’t need as much N I guess.
In a 5 gallon pot to encourage her to flower rather than vegging to an enormous size which won’t work this far North. Anyway, she drinks a lot and has been the first plant dry most days lately.
Nice buds forming.
Sep 10: note that taking flash pics of photoperiod plants is normally a bad idea. However, since I’m using a far red light for a few seconds at dusk the flash a few minutes earlier is cancelled out.
Easy growing plant considering it is a land race sativa from Jamaica that was grown outdoors in Northern Canada. Very nice smoke and high so yeah I’m feeling very pleased about this one. Should be rated as 9/10.
She was damaged by hail two weeks before harvest, but the buds turned out okay despite losing some trichomes. The plant always had a different shade of green going on, and PEV’s description calls this a ‘green marijuana’ so It’s characteristic of the strain. The buds are a bit bulbous and look seeded, but they are not seeded. Also turned purple toward the end due to cold overnight temperatures.
Nice plant that did surprisingly well here but a key was force flowering starting on July 9. Without initiating flowering this land race sativa from Jamaica would not have finished in time at 53N near Edmonton, Canada. As it is, I get a solid yield of really nice buds for an exotic sativa by mid-September. Woohoo. Time to do some quality control testing.
