Velvet Bud is a revamp of Seedsman's original Purple Skunk strain which has been re-fashioned to produce a much smoother smoking experience - hence the new name Velvet Bud which is a close relative of our Purple Bud. Although very smooth it nonetheless packs quite a punch; its powerful effect results in a very laid-back high which happily also has anti-anxiety properties. Although suitable for growing indoors, outdoors and in a green house its 9 week flowering period is somewhat restrictive for outdoors growers except in warmer regions where the October harvest is not adversely affected by the onset of colder, wetter weather.
Velvet Bud's Skunk influence is reflected in the fairly long side-branching and this quality helps to increase the yield which, while not exactly bumper in size, is certainly more than worthwhile especially when taking into consideration the taste and smoothness of the smoke once cured properly.
This velvet bud was germinated by being placed directly from the packet into biobizz lightmix soil, and saturated with activera, this was on the 7th of July and she took 3 days to surface, she looks like she is about to start becoming a little leggy though so will be dropping the light and have got a little fan blowing into the dome! Although to be fair because of this I will probably take the lid off some point soon! She is currently under a 125w cfl and in around a weeks time I will be placing her under my 300w led to veg, and then will either be going under my 400w or 600w hps to flower! Will update more her progress through the week!
Thanks for checking in
D12, the images uploaded was taken yesterday, and in the next few days I am going to be transplanting her into the 5l pot, currently she is about 4.5 inches tall but she has been leaning over a but so she is currently being supported and I will probably bury her so that she is 3"above soil when transplanted. She is getting pretty thirsty too and I'm having to water up to 2 times a day so think then need changing asap anyway... so soon as my soil gets here she will be 're potted.
To be continued
So this post is a couple of days I to week 3, she was transplanted yesterday into a 5l p and the pics are from today, so a day later she doesn't seem to have taken on any stress from it and hopefully will continue to grow alright she started displaying some yellowing on her bottom leaves but I am not going to feed her yet as we has just gone into fresh soil so am only continuing with bio silicon once a week at the moment. She seems to be doing ok though at the moment so will update her progress in a few days
So I am currently about 25 days into veg now, the pictures were taken yesterday but had to get them on my phone so I do apologise for them not being best quality but they are due a watering today so will upload some better ones when I do that, this velvet bud over the past week has roughly doubled in size so quite happy with her at the moment as she seems to be doing pretty well, I topped all 7 seedsman strains this week and, some developed the new tops slot quicker then this one though but it doesn't really seem to have slowed her down, so when they develop enough on this one I will tie them down, I am going to be transplanting after Monday do to a house inspection on that day so it just makes it easier to move everything, and then will begin training pretty much right away, I have also cut off her first 2 nodes as I intend to transplant up to what was the third node to help her fatten up a bit, all seems to be go in well with her so far though, I'm still not giving any nutrients and just adding bio silicon once a week, and this will continue till they are six weeks old! last night my gf said to me when we was in the room, "why does it stink in here?" To which I replied "of what?" For her to then tell me "it stinks of weed" haha! So I haven't pinpointed where its coming from yet but something in this tent is stinking already and they aren't even 4 weeks old yet, not to mention they all look nice and strong so far so this has got me feeling pretty positive about this run! Will get these other pics uploaded tonight!
Thanks for checking in
D33,so over the past week this vekvet bud has come allong well, she has actually nearly doubled in size since my last update! At the beginning of the week she was transplanted to a 20l pot where she will spend the rest of her life, and then I began training her to try and give her an even canopy, she still has a few weeks of veg left so still plenty of time to progress, and she has about a week left before I start introducing nutrients. There is a beautiful aroma coming out of this tent at the moment though from the 7 strains in there so I am really looking forward to getting them flipped!
D42, so we are at the end of week 6 with this update, since my last update as you can see from the pictures she is starting to fill out nicely and getting a little busy, so going into week 7 I will be doing some tidying up, this week i have split everything so that the sativa doms are sepperate to the indica doms/hybrid to avoid any of them fighting for light ECT.. I had intended on veging for 8 weeks initially, but I fear if I have both my hps lights running at the same time I'm going to suffer heat problems.. so due to this today is the last day of veg and tomorrow the indica tent with the 400w will be running through the day, and the sativa tent with the 600w will be running in the evening. Over the past couple of days some of the girls started displaying some fading/yellowing on a couple of lower fans, so I have now introduced bio grow at quarter strength for the first time! I am going to continue with some light training during the flowering stretch to try and keep her as even as possible but hopefully won't need to do much. As I am about to go into flower I will start trying to update some pictures a little more frequently to record her progress better. All in all I'm pretty happy with her upto now. so, till next time! Thanks for checking in!
So we are now at week 7, 5 days into 12/12.. d47 in total, yesterday was when I took the pictures for this but have just realised that they aren't very good ones so I will upload a few better ones later. This week I have put the 4 sativa Dom strains under a 600w hps to flower, and over the past couple of days growth has become noticeably increasing as she starts off the flowering stretch. This velvet bud as actually the widest out of all my current run, and has just started showing sex, she looks like she is going to have plenty of bud sites so am quite happy with how the little training I did worked out so far.. I will be monitoring her well she is in the stretch so that i can try an maintain an even canopy, i have done some light defoliation as you can see because she was rather bushy and still seems to be so will probably take a few more off soon, i will also be stripping off some lower growth to encourage more energy into her tops! I don't have anything negative to say though so hopefully she continues to progress well.
So the pictures for this update are from yesterday (d11 of 12/12).. as you can see from the pictures her progress he come along nicely since my last update, tying her down slightly seems to have helped keep her a bit shorter but she has filled out more from it and is showing plenty of preflowers which I am excited about.. Also In terms of smell I think this one is my favourite so far she smells beautiful so I'm pretty excited for this final stage, I have added a top dressing of dolomite lime (recommended with biobizz soil) and when she is due her next feed I will be introducing bio bloom. All in all she is content and I'm happy with how she is getting on!
D19 of 12/12.. this velvet bud still seems to be stretching a little but vertical growth is starting to slow down now that her buds are developing.. she hasn't stopped though so she will still get a little taller I imagine. Her bud sites have come along nicely and she has filled out well.. This strain still smells pretty potent and it's quite a fruity aroma, I'm looking forward to this one the! I'm going to slowly start increasing her nutrients on the next feed and hopefully the rest of the flowering stage goes as well as it has so far!
The pictures for this update were taken yesterday (d26-12/12), this week progress has come along well, she is starting to get a bit frosty now and is becoming quite sticky, vertical growth has almost come to a halt but she has filled out her bud sites nicely and looks like she is going to be quite rewarding, she has a couple of nice long colas that I'm looking forward to seeing fill out. She has stared to fade In a few places over the past week but it kind of looks like there is some colour about to come out in the leaves that are fading, and she seems to be developing a little quicker then some of the other sativa doms! Nutes have been increased slightly.. all in all I'm quite happy with the turn out of this plant so far and she smells pretty sweet too so I'm quite excited for the harvest of this one when it comes!
So week 6, the pics were taken closer to the end od that week, during which she took a turn and went almost completely yellow.. like she looks hungry for n, I am not worrying about it much though because she isn't too far from harvest so it's a bit late to try and fix when she is going to be flushed shortly anyway. This plant has quite a unique smell, which is pretty strong.. It's quite sweet but I can't quite put my finger on it! She is getting pretty stick now too. Hopefully she finishes well. I have had a few environment issues this grow so there is more I could have done differently to improve this grow how ever it won't be long before I am running her again so the next diary should be a lot better!
Week 7.. yellowing seems to have continued but she is also starting to display some more colours now.. she smells really strong to be fair and is sticky af! There isn't many leaves on her either that don't have trichomes on them so she has turned out quite nicely imo.. There is a lot that could have been done better so I will be putting alot more effort into the next time I run her because she seems more then capable of producing decent results! But I am still happy with how she has turned out so far, after checking her trichs too she looks mostly cloudy already so the yellowing could just be from her coming to the end of her time! I am going to start flushing after this week but she seems pretty close so I think harvest is going to be down to preference now!
