paper towel into peat disks. the Seneca Nations were started 5/21. Heirloom that was kept for generations in my local reservation (the seneca nation). looks to be indica.
the other strains were obtained from kwikseeds. the afghan mix is a mix of 4 strains from different locations in afghanistan that someone at kwikseeds’ parent company The Real Seed Company mixed up “because they’re just seeds” so i got them on a discount and some for free. id say 10/17 popped, lost/neglected a lot of them tho. worth buying again tho.
*NOT EXACT DATA FOR FIRST COUPLE WEEKS*
the senecas were started by 5/21, the rest by 5/24. the 5/24s had some light burn when they were younger, that’s why they looked like that and i didn’t record any data, didn’t think they’d make it.
1gal breeding project
landrace strains:
1 afghan mix(indica)
2 Turkish(indica)
2 Seneca nation heirlooms(indica)
equipment:
tent- greenhouser 32”x32”x63” tent
light- mars hydro SP1000 150w led
starting medium- amazon peat disks
containers- solo cups to 1 gal fabrics
water- pür tap water filter for now
soil-FFOF
nutrients-AN
methods:
soak in filtered tap/bottled water till drop to bottom of cup, paper towel for 8-10hrs. check if seeds have cracked. if cracked, give another 8hrs and check said seeds again. within 24-48hrs seeds go from soaking to paper towel, sometimes into starting medium. solo cup for 2 weeks, then to one gals to finish. pick one male showing favorable attributes. cull rest of males at first sign. take male out once pollen sacs are showing during the day and garbage bag on at night, OR, chop big branch off and put it in a cup of water and use that to dust females. ideal end goal, 4 plants (1 of each strain) and a lot of frozen pollen
my favorable male attributes:
(shooting for a good male)
short
compact
bush like
good node spread
skunky/gassy/chemmy smell
good pollen production
my goals:
-build seed stock
-see what strains i can create
-to stablize and refine my favorite even further
- have one male and the rest female so i can have one parent for everything
-to see if i enjoy the smaller “SOG” setup
everyone looking okay, the turkish are the fastest flowering plants out of the five, can’t even tell for the other three yet, that’s why i didn’t include their tops. idk why, but we’ll see
did some very minor defoliation on the senecas, both confirmed females. the afghan is the only male exactly what i wanted. got a super funky smell, definitely some skunky, hashy almost notes. almost like grinder hash smell. tight node spacing id say for such a small male, nice cluster of sacs on the top and on the bottom of the first node. turkish doing well too, nice fruity/dank/hashy smell too. i can see why they were cultivated for charas.
explosive growth on the male. literally within 3 days he’s so tall he’s falling over. i hand pollinated the labeled turkish on 7/1 with a brush and then on 7/2 i shook him over the unlabeled turkish and the senecas. the light was off so i wasn’t in there long but i could see with my flashlight that i definitely got some pollen on the other turkish. will collect a bit more tonight and paint the rest before i get rid of him
painted the senecas for sure, culled the male. both turkish are pretty well seeded out, i’m thinking maybe 20-30 seeds each, 15 fully formed and good. the senecas look lightly pollinated, maybe 15-20, 10 fully formed and good. still will be usable beans. next run after this will be good, hopefully stable genetics. gonna try for a turkish male and focus on the turkish x afghan cross, while saving the seneca x turkish for later.
running smoothly, no mites from the main tent surprisingly. first seed dropped of the seneca #1. wasn’t mature, but i’m super hyped. turkish #2 will be my breeding focus. super smelly, and covered in trichs. nice tight spacing with compact nugs. definitely a winner.
nothing really to show, some seeds are starting to brown. the turks both are showing tiger striped seeds too so that’s a plus. i’m guessing two weeks. lmk what your guesses are.
was just shooting for seeds. was told i could harvest so i did. had some immature seeds but the seeds that were ready were beautiful. saving these seeds from this grow for a different run
like the other one says, was just shooting for seeds this run. will update you when i run them again. won’t be this coming run, got some fire for that. gonna do a 2 plant project.
