Dropped the seed into a plastic cup of DI water. Placed it in a small box and sat it on my desk for three days at 72-75F until the radicle was about 3/4 of an inch.
Placed germinated seed into a peat pellet with Mother Earth 70/30 coco/perlite mix in a perforated cup. The thermostatically control box is set for 80F and the humidity in the setup maintains itself at 75-85% with the water in the bottom cup. MAXISUN 600 24/0 @ 30" = PPFD of 112.
My intent is to replant only once into a DIY auto-watering grow bag. With the dual cup seedling setup, I can hand water with nutrients before the transfer, if necessary.
Day 5 - upped the lighting to 325 PPFD and watered with 50% diluted seedling nutrients.
So far so good! The transition from a cup to the 3-gal planter was simple and low stress. I modified an idea another grower posted online. Using the two cup method described earlier, I placed the entire setup into the 3-gal planter to provide a hole exactly the same size as current media the plant is in. You can still see the original peat plug if you look closely. I was also able to shift to adding nutrients at half-doses into the cup so the surrounding media was the exact same solution when the transfer took place. A big shoutout to the folks over at Coco for Cannabis for the large amount of information and tutorials on getting started with my fertigation setup. Still trying to figure out the EC thing, but it has been pretty low maintenance way to go so far!
So this week saw some great progress. The plant has some beautiful purple stems and is spreading out with a little leaf tucking to open up the top.
The general consensus seems to be IF you dare to play with an autoflower plant, the prudent method would be to use LST techniques. Being a newbie, but also one up for a dare, I figured I go for it and see if I could try and increase my yield. Since there is little time to waste with an autoflowering strain, I waited until week three after there was solid growth demonstrated and the plant looked like it was happy 😁 With the slight increase in nutrients, I will be watching closely for any indications of stress.
