The new stash has arrived, I just got to grow it.
Wasn't planning on starting another grow before the end of summer, but I haven't planned any vacation so might as well keep me busy.
I can harvest my current grow within 2 to 3 weeks, so these ones can take their place right away.
This will be a quick round, with only 2 weeks of grow before switching to 12/12. I should be ready by the end of August.
16 plants of 4 strains will get a spot in my largest tent, 8 plants of the other 2 strains will go in my smallest grow tent.
I planted 30 seeds, 5 seeds per strain. Normally I use plugs to germinate seeds, this time I put them directly into coco/perlite. Didn't add any nutrients yet, just misted with pure rain water (PH down to 5.8).
I only need 4 plants per strain, so counting on 80% germination.
Will get back in a few days when I see the first signs of life.
Most seeds sprouted after 3 days, some haven't shown a sign of life after 5 days.
Green Gelato 100% germination
Cookies Gelato 100% germination
Wedding Crasher 100% germination
Sherbet 100% germination
Triple G 40% germination
Wedding Gelato 0% germination
Can't understand why 5 seeds of one strain aren't doing anything.
I purchased everything directly from RQS, so I will get in touch with them about this.
I'm hoping some of them still show up so I can select 24 as I planned. Just need 2 more.
Not focussing too much on what isn't, all the seedlings that did sprout do look good.
We've had a few very warm days so I raised the top of the propagator to let some air flow through.
I'm glad they didn't suffer too much from the heat.
Upwards, ladies!
All plants were repot to a slightly larger pot today. I have to buy some time because my flowering room isn't empty yet.
Day 11 sounds soon to repot, but the roots are already well developed.
I'm still not adding any nutrients, very little watering with filtered rain water, PH down to 5.8
200W light is set at 60%
I will select 16 plants for my large flowering tent, 4 other will flower into this small tent.
After contacting Royal Queen Seeds about Wedding gelato and 3 x Triple G's that didn't germinate, they immediately sent me new seeds.
Now that's what I call customer service! Those will be for next round.
On day 21 I moved 4 strains into my largest tent, 25L pots, 4 plants per pot. Green Gelato, Cookies Gelato, Sherbet & Wedding Crasher.
In my smallest tent I squeezed in the same pots, with one plant per pot. 2 x Triple G, Cookies Gelato & Sherbet. These will probably be topped once at the fifth node.
I didn't start adding nutrients before day 14, and I gradually built up the amount they are getting.
I didn't want to make the mistake to water too much, the cocos can hold too much water for seedlings if I'm not careful.
Manually watered a bit every 2 days so they have just enough moisture.
All the ladies are looking healthy and content.
Switched the light in both grow tents to 12/12 on the 25th of July, so expecting first signs of bloom around mid August. The 4 plants in the small tent were FIMed on the same day, to keep them low and end up with 2 main branches per plant.
I'm lucky my plants survived last heat wave, it has been a challenge to keep temp under 30°C during the hottest days.
Day 50 of grow and all plants are still doing good. Expecting first signs of bloom any day now.
I lowered the 4 sherbets far left by bending and crossing their stems. I might do the same with some other plants if they outgrow the others.
Ordered some extra cocos to top of all the pots next week.
Stopped watering manually every few days. They drink enough I filled up the reservoir and put a dripper in the middle of every pot to water once daily for 2 minutes.
Over the past 5 days all strains started flowering.
The plants that needed bending to get the canopy even are all taken care of. Especially Sherbet grew very tall and had to be restrained. Green gelato also had 2 taller plants that I bended.
Filled all containers to the top with cocos.
All the hardest work is done, from now on it's just a waiting game till the end, about 10 weeks from here.
The 4 leftover plants in my small tent all have 2 main stems. They started flowering the same day. Still have to rearrange the stems to form a more even canopy.
Flowering week 7, day 4
I have been busy lately and had other priorities so neglected my grow diary.
But I didn't neglect my plant and am happy to say everything is still going to plan, so let me update now flowering is nearing the end.
My experiment of growing 16 plants on less than 1 square meter seemed crazy, but all plants have developed nice bud. One thing I wanted to find out was if I could harvest more from 16 small plants instead of 4 plants topped into 16 main buds.
By the looks I wouldn't say 16 individual plants grew more bud. Some plants will harvest 50g, others only 20. In total I think the outcome will be more or less the same.
For this round I want to wait to harvest until most of the trichomes have turned amber. I'm waiting for a coat of brown sugar crystal buds before harvesting because I'd like to have a heavier couch lock feeling than my previous harvest, which I might've harvested after spotting the first brown trichomes.
I'm planning on starting flushing after flowering week 8.
I don't have to worry to postpone harvest till the last moment cause I have a dehumidifier running 24/7, keeping humidity at a healthy and safe 40%. Very important!
There's less good news from the smaller grow tent I'm growing a few leftover plants in. It doesn't have a dehumidifier. Autumn is setting in, and we've had weeks of very wet weather. Buds are growing very big and dense, but too high humidity cost half of the buds due to top rot. I removed all the cola's that showed rot. Some were completely lost, others were half way gone. Either way they were harvested weeks too soon and without flushing, so while still hoping I can save the remaining buds I consider this tent a total loss. if this was my only source of weed for coming winter I would be devastated. But this was just a bonus, I'm focussing on my large tent's harvest and I know nothing more can go wrong with that.
Soon I will have a nice stash of 4 strains. I will finally be able to taste the famous Sherbet, Green Gelato, Cookies Gelato and Wedding Crasher.
So looking forward to this!
End of flowering week 8.
I watered all plants with the final part 'Ripen' starting at day 1 of flowering week 8.
Sherbet (far left) was the first strain showing yellow leaves, only 2 days after switching to 'Ripen'. I started flushing Sherbet using Florakleen (Flashkleen is the new name) 4 days ago. I expect her to be ready for harvest in a few days. I already spot some dark trichomes on the smallest plant, but not quite there just yet.
Wedding Crasher (far right) is the second strain that shows yellow leaves. I started flushing that pot today. Will check for amber trichomes in one week.
Cookies Gelato and Green Gelato aren't showing any yellow leaves yet, they will continue to get Ripen until they show signs of nearing the end.
(Don't mind the EC and PH on the monitor, it's not in use because I'm watering manually for the last weeks)
