Starting a new grow in my custom grow cabinet. There have been a few upgrades and a re-design of the intake system.
Previously I hade two usb fans mounted flush into the shelf. This worked ok but I found some nice usb desk fans with built in speed control that also angle.
This means I can use them to pull in air, and angle the air into the plants from underneath for great flow.
I germinated a single fat banana and a single mimosa. 100% success using the paper towel method.
First proper week and not all is well with this grow.
When mixing the biobizz worm castings into the soil mix, I noticed some small flys but thought nothing of it.
It looks like the worm castings were infested with fly eggs and they’ve been hatching over the last week due to the warmth from the light.
They’re not attacking the plants but I’ve added a few grapes which they’re enjoying, so a few times a day I kill them and repeat.
Not sure what else I can do other than start again.
I’m going to leave them for a few weeks and see what happens.
Ah well. 🤦♂️
They guys are doing great. It’s warm here at the moment so keeping the day temp at around 27c is meaning they’re loving life.
Still sticking with the biobizz feed schedule and watering roughly 0.5l one a week.
The fat banana is already putting out a decent smell. It’s my 2nd time growing it and it’s quickly becoming an all time favourite.
As usual it’s week 4 or 5 I start to see nutritional issues so - fingers crossed, this grow all is well.
Yeah, they’re coming along nicely.
Fat banana ( in front ) is doing really well, and found the same last time a grew it. It’s a great variety as it’s easy to grow and the product packs a punch.
The mimosa is a smaller plant but growing well and hasn’t needed any special treatment.
They both get the same feed and water schedule so I’ll keep doing that until I see any need to change.
Week five is usually my nemesis. It’s about then I start to have issues during the switch to flower.
This time I adde some worm castings to the mix, so hopefully that will help with the nitrogen.
As usual it’s a biobizz grow schedule
1st week of flower and all going well. Actually, there was an issue with the main stem of the fat banana snapping, but I found it pretty quickly and managed to secure it.
I LSTed it and watered at the same time. I’m guessing the growth spurt after the water was just enough, combined with the new wire made it tighten too much and snap the stem.
It can happen, it’s all my fault.
Still following the biobizz feed schedule, and they’re looking good. It’s week 5/6 I usually see issues but allllll good 😊
All ok this week.
Just watering and feeding when needed. The snapped fat banana is doing ok. No problem and looks to have healed.
I’ll leave the splint on for the remaining weeks as it isn’t hurting anything, but it means I can’t LST that main stalk.
The buds are growing so hopefully they start to put on weight.
That’s it for now
Another week and we’ve hit the usual issue of leaf yellowing.
It’s later this time but still here so I’m making a tea using worm casting to try and up the nitrogen. I’ve never been able to work out this phase of flowering, but I’ll keep trying.
Other than the yellowing, they’re putting on weight and growing strong.
They’re doing great and using up their lower leaves. No other dame to leaves so I’m happy the notes are on point.
I think they will probably be ready to chop in just over two weeks so I’ve watered to day and I’ll water and feed when they need it. That will probably be their last feed.
The fat banana smells gorgeous and overpowered the mimosa.
That’s it for this week
They’ve been on ph balanced water for the past week with no feed.
They’re using up the leaves nicely with no obvious deficiencies going on.
The fat banana is such a good plant to grow, very easy going and tolerant of changes that might occur.
The mimosa is fine but it’s not budding as well. Lots of small buds, but this is my first time growing this so maybe it likes a different schedule.
Anyway, I’m too near the finish line to alter anything 😜
I hope after another week of water they’ll be ready to harvest together. It would make life easier if I can do them both. Less hassle drying as I can keep them both in the cabinet to vent smells.
One learning from this grow. Keep the temps higher. I think that have been the issue with my previous grows. I’ve been so paranoid about the heat.
Until next week
Chopped both plants today after 48 hours of dark . Still not convinced it does anything but it worked with my schedule, so did it anyway.
Both plants produced some pretty decent dense buds, but the smell, oh the smell is magical.
I’ll weigh in a week once they dry
