7/6 - 7/7 - Placed all 6 sprouted Gush Mints into the DWC buckets. Put in 3 gallons and 1Liter so that the water would be just above the bottom net of the pot. I set my Spider Farmer lights around 50-60 percent. I let these buckets sit until 7/15

7/15 - New res change and new buckets, added Armor Si and Cal Mag to the regime this week 7/18 - 7/19 - After a couple of days the buckets started to look bad, I think due to a number of factors, 1) the weather got super hot and I couldnt keep my res any lower than 72F and hit 73F a couple of times. The airstones and roots had silica gel build up on them that also caused some root rot (I think). The Silica may have went bad and I noticed I had to use A LOT more ph down to get to 5.8. I've read the acid from ph down used in excess can have some bad reactions with the Silica. The gellish substance was caked over the airstones and roots, some silica dried up on the pots and you could see the white silica crystals forming. I had to carefully clean the pots and roots (damaging soom) with my fingers, gently sliding the gel off. So I did a fresh res change with new buckets and airstones. I dropped the Silica and added some hydroguard 2ml Per Gallon and peroxide 12% at 20ML per bucket. I was battling the gel everyday and it started to form brown sludge on the roots that I would take off with my fingers everyday and sometimes having to remove some roots that were too damaged.

7/27 - Res change with new buckets and airstones - By this time the silica gel buildup was totally eradicated but due to that mishap I was stilll battling the root rot brown sludge on my roots that I think was negatively effecting the plant, not devasting but not optimal. I had to clean off the roots via my fingers and still had to remove some roots that were too damaged.

8/2 - Res change with new buckets and airstones, the temps are still too high and the water is sitting at 72F so I decided to drop the hydroguard due to the high temps and not wanting bad bacteria to buld up. Plus I was still experiencing some brown sludge and with the hydrogaurd out the brown sludge is almost eradicated from the res. I also stopped using the peroxide which I used 30ml per bucket on week 3 (I forgot to add that to weeks 3 entry). I did start LST on some of the plants that were ready, I like to use the LST clips in combination with the regular LST green ties. They seem to responding very well to LST.

8/7 - Adjusting and LST’ing main stem and branches periodically, some phenos are starting to form a nice bush. 1 pheno is still growing well but isn’t suitable for LST as it has only developed one main cola and isn’t developing many nodes or branches at the nodes. I performed the 1st round of defoliation and removed some of the lower branches. Roots are looking a lot better even though some roots look a little brown but no brown sludge is guiding up. I decided to add SLF-100 to the regimen to keep things clean and to really so how good this stuff is and to hopefully clean out the root zone and assist in root development. 8/10 - Res change with new buckets and air stones - flowering feeding & light regimen started

So the brown sludge came back strong this week. After 25 hours of being in the new water all buckets had big sludge buildup on the roots. For about 4 days I had to take the sludge of by hand and also take a lot of roots off that were too far gone or had dead roots tangled up in a knots. I decided to treat this issue I keep having with bleach! Besides trying variations of feeds and doing plenty of rest buckets outside the tent with different feeds and ratios, they all ended up with bad smelling water and sludge on the air stones. So now I have a ton of air pumps, 2 airstones in each bucket and decided to get smaller 2x2 airstones to get them really moving. The big 4x4 airstones got the buildup on the bottoms and it seemed only enough air was going to them to only produce air coming out the top or side facing up with no air coming out the bottom side of the stone facing down. The smaller airstones produce air bubble all around, so I’m hoping more oxygen may safe. After treating with bleach at 1ml per bucket (2.5gallons) the brown sludge starting to slowly go away and new bright white roots were growing. I built a custom scrog screen I plan to use if I can tackle this problem and not have to treat the roots so much. Fingers crossed I figure this out soon! More LST and the plants are responding well. Minimal defoliation.

Roots are doing great now, some leftover small brown clumps but they don’t seem to be affecting the plants. But they are exploding and icy white. Stopped using the bleach this week so we’ll see how this week goes.

Roots looks great now. The orca is doing amazing, ever since adding that the roots have exploded and are icy white. I think they are finished with their flower stretch and it’s unfortunate that due to the roots issues early on these won’t get past 18 inches max. By the way they look I may get 2 ounces per plant with one plant that I don’t think will get more than a 1/2oz. I hit them with 2 scoops of the flower fuel so I’m hoping the buds will get fatter. Out of all 6 you can definitely tell there is 6 different phones. 1 has the most thc content and another had the best structure and yield.

So the roots keep getting attacked, it’s definitely one of the nutrients or combo of nutes that are causing this adverse effect. It hasn’t harmed the growth but the runts roots were coated and the leaves started showed signs of deficiencies due to the roots being covered. The smell is absolutely amazing and extremely pungent! I’ve lowered the ppms and I think this strain prefers light feeds. I’m looking forward to seeing these fatten up in the next couple of weeks.
