I have another diary going detailing the first run of these plants. It is a 3 - strain grow so it is ineligible for the monthly contests. I've read a lot of good things about Lemon Skunk on MSNL's website and am hoping I can pack on the weight late in the grown cycle. I've been having a heck of a time getting these clones to turn into healthy, vibrant specimens.
My clone game has been terrible. I had very few problems the first year I was doing this. I've read up on my experience and think I've discovered the cause. I would always get roots and then they would die shortly after transplant. I wasn't soaking the initial soil and the humidity difference was too much for the phenotypes to survive in. Regardless, I decided to invest in a DWC (Direct Water Contact) cloner. I'll explain that in my other diary.
As of now, I have 7 plants that will survive to flower. I'll be fimming and transplanting before the next update.
Transplanted on day 34. Clones are looking healthy and strong. Going to continue to top, defoliate as needed. Should be solid and ready to flip to flower in the next 4-6 weeks.
I'm just vegging the clones out. Topped them on Day 33 and fed them a couple of times this week. Everything is looking good and now I'm going to sit back until it is time to transplant in preparation for the flower phase.
My apologies for the late update. I had to go out of town last week. I started to transplant the night before I left but ran out of potting soil. I picked up more from the airport on my way back. I will be transplanting the remainder today which will be in next week's update. I also topped the transplanted plants. Everything was overfed the morning I left so they would stay moist upon my return 4 days later.
Finished transplanting the girls earlier this week. Based on the stretch from the mother plants I can get these clones roughly 36" tall (from the floor in a 5 gallon pot) before flipping to flower. So I can pretty much double these in height to maximise the final yield. We'll be on cruise control here for the next 2-3 weeks before transplanting up to 5 gallon pots. Then I'll have them in veg for another week after transplant so the roots will expand. By this time I should also have a pretty good idea how long they'll take to flower based on my information from the mother plants.
Had a slow start in this week but noticed some good progress towards the end of the week. The vegetation started to grow explosively! I ended up defoliating them on day 61. They grew 3 inches taller this week. I need them to grow another 10-12 inches taller before flowering. Note: This must not be a popular strain. I only have 3 likes and one comment...
Garden is on point this week. Grew 4 inches taller. I spent about 2 hours defoliating and lollipopping the girls. I'll be transplanting them into their final pots towards the end of the next week. I'll veg them out for another week before flipping to the 12/12 schedule.
Day 72 shows the plants recovering from their defoliation/lollipop session. Transplanted the group on day 75 into 5 gallon fabric pots. I'm hoping they stretch a bit more before I flip the lights. I'd like them to be between the top two rungs on the tomato cages. I'm basing this on the amount of stretch these girls did in the last flower cycle. However, this grow will already be 12 weeks by the end of this week. I may just flip them next week regardless of height. Their moms look like they're going to take 10 weeks to finish. I'd like to wrap this grow up by Christmas. In my quest to find a suitable replacement for Advanced Nutrients I came across Oregon's Only's Nectar for the Gods line of nutes. You can request a sample pack to try them out. They sent out 6 quarts of their base line up, a 12 oz bottle of Olympus UP (ph up) and a 12 oz bottle of Bloom Khaos (Foliar). I fed them this mixture on the day of transplant. I was quite impressed with the way the plants looked 12 hours later. They're a nice, vibrant green and very perky.
I'm not really seeing much progress on height. The girls only grew 1-2 inches this week. They did fill back in with lots of lower vegetative growth. I'll be defoliating in the next day or two. My scheduling plans for future grows means I'll be flipping these to 12/12 after 84 days of veg. I'm pretty sure I shot myself in the foot by transplanting these into the 3 gallon pots a few weeks back. I probably would have had better success going directly into 5 gallon pots. I believe I could have saved at least 2 weeks in veg. Lesson learned. I'm following the feed chart provided by Oregon's Only. The last feeding of this week was adjusted to the early flowering feed. I'll need to adjust it again in a few weeks. I'm also using Bloom Khaos as a foliar; this changes to a soil drench in mid-flowering.
Everything is looking healthy and vibrant. Nectar for the Gods appears to be a solid lineup. I'm also using Bloom Khaos as a foliar. Starting the second week of flower now; only 9 more weeks until harvest.
Flowers are starting to fill in with lots of pistils. Everything is looking green and healthy. I defoliated the plants on day 15 including their lollipop trim to remove the lower sites that won't produce.
This week I adjusted the feeding for mid-flowering according to the chart supplied by Oregon's Only. I lollipopped the plants on day 15 and gave them an all around defoliation treatment. Still pleased with the way the plants react to the nutrient line. I'm not noticing any issues yet. Last run issues didn't show up until week 6 of flowering.
Noticed a lot of pistils sprouting and some frost forming. The flowers are beginning to form. Everything is a vibrant forest green with no signs of nutrient burn yet.
I adjusted the feed schedule to late flowering according to the feed chart provided by Oregon's Only. So far I've been using the recommended dosages and I'm pleased with the results. Flowers are starting to frost up and pack on some weight. There isn't any indication of nutrient burn. Perhaps this nutrient line is better with sensitive plants. I had trouble start about this time using Advanced Nutrients.
Watered on day 36 & day 40 this week. Fed them each 1/2 gallon plus the above nutrients. I'm probably going to feed them at least once more before flushing. No signs of nutrient burn this run so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this run will turn out better than the mothers.
Everything is cruising along looking healthy! I gave them their last feeding with nutrients this week. Next week we start flushing. Based on the previous run I'm thinking these girls will be ready to harvest by December 1st.
Started the flush routine this week. Flowers are filling out and the pistils are turning brown. The fan leaves are turning nitrogen deficient. A sweet skunky smell permeates the air. The nugs are super frosty. Should be ready to chop in the next 12-14 days.
Just sitting here watching the frost and weight pack on. All of the top leaves are starting to die as I back off on nutrients. I'm going to finish them for one more week with water and floral kleen. I'm really pleased with the appearance of these plants using Oregon's Only Nectar for the Gods Basic lineup.
Out of the seven clones grown I had 2 phenotypes. One of them is more difficult to deal with than the other. The leaves start to turn brown around 7 weeks in. The same thing happened to the mother plant when she was flowered out. The mother was grown with Advanced Nutrients whereas the clone run was fed the Nectar for the Gods nutrient line. One thing to note this time is that the buds are more resinous than the previous run. I harvested 4 of these plants on day 69. The second phenotype requires more flushing so they're getting another week. There are three plants left.
This was the second grow cycle of the Lemon Skunk genetics. I'm happier with the way the second run turned out compared to the first. My yield was higher and one of the phenotypes turned out some stellar top nugs. This grow took way longer than it should have and I'm to blame for some of it. I think I should have went straight to 5 gallon pots instead of hopping into the 3 gallon pots. This cost me at least 2 weeks of extra veg time, maybe more. This harvest took 21+ days to dry. That's about a week longer than last time. I've had to prepare my report early to enter the Diary of the Month. I did a smoke sesh yesterday morning on a nug that's only been curing for 3 days. I'd much rather wait a month to fire some up and let it cure properly. I didn't get many followers or comments on this grow until it was approaching the end. I got the feeling that most people don't like this strain. I'm not really fond on growing it again for various reasons. Mostly because of the amount of labor involved with the trimming portion of the harvest. Maybe I just got some bad phenotypes. I wasn't really impressed with the way the terpenes touch my palate even though it smells really loud either.
