Hi!
I’m back on a new cycle, this time with another cultivar from Feijao da Roça called Moby Dgusta Pine.
Four seeds has spent 24h on a glass of water and after they sank I planted them direct into 4 cups of soil (general purpose mix, wormcasting, perlite and vermiculite).
Two of them sprouted two days after and I’m waiting for the last two to pop.
The light panel is brand new and it’s composed of two panels and one power source. The panels are actually two quantum boards with 120W each, totaling 240W, the chips are Lm301h Samsung + 660nm Osram.
I can say that I’ll have to learn how to deal with: 1) two panels instead of one; 2) the dimmer; and 3) the boards distance from the canopy.
I’m using the same greenhouse from the last cycle (80x80x180cm) with the same soil bed (150L) filled with 120L of the same soil amended with 5L of worm castings, 2 cups of rock dust, 1 cup of gypsum, 1 cup of shell limestone, 1/2 cup of neem meal, 1/2 cup of bone meal and 1/2 cup of bokashi. I watered with an AACT diluted by one part water one part tea.
I sparkled some cover crop seeds, covered with mulch and let the soil cook for 1 week (while the plants from the last cycle dried).
I’m trying to keep the humidity high, using a homemade greenhouse and the Sonoff sensor to turn on and off the humidifier. Humidity has been between 70-85%.
Let’s hope for a 100% germination rate this week, and a peaceful and prosper cycle!
Hi!
Only two of four seeds sprouted, so I planted four more seeds of a different cultivar: Moby x Harlequin (CBD).
I used the same method on the four new seeds, it has been three days since the seeds went to soil and none of them sprouted yet.
I adjusted the light panel lower, the first two seedlings got a little bit etiolated. I had to learn about PPFD and DLI, I downloaded an app to measure (it promise to be very accurate, but it still is only an app that use the standard smartphone camera not a real device).
By my measures the PPFD are about 350 and DLI are 23. My researched shown that the correct values are between 250-400 PPFD and 13-20 DLI for seedlings. I’ll keep track and watch the real effects on the plants and adjust accordingly.
One plant had a deformation on the first pair of real leaves, one side stuck to grow while the other fully developed the complete leaf. I hope this deformation do not occur anymore.
Because of the etiolation, I had to use some straws from the mulch to support the plants to grow straight, they were falling down.
Every new cycle beginning makes me learn a lot, this one is not different. I’ll try to fill the canopy with four plants from different cultivars, that’s also new to me.
That’s all for this week, peace!
Hi!
The original seedlings have grown a lot from last week, I applied a FIM prune to them at their fourth node, this is the first time I try FIMing and I’m hoping that I did it right.
The other four seeds haven’t sprouted and at this point I just gave up on having more plants at the same tent.
There are some burn at the border of some leaves, I think it’s because of the light panel being too close to the seedlings, I pulled away the panel by 10cm this week, the dimer continues at 35% power.
I added a thin layer of worm castings to the pots in order to support a couple more weeks of good growth.
Temperatures were pretty high at my city last week, about 32 degrees Celsius and humidity around 60-70%.
This cultivar is similar to the last one, large leaves, short internode distances. I’m not expecting this cycle to have big differences either.
Hi!
The plants were transplanted to their final container, the same 120L organic soil into a 150L bed which were amended about a month ago.
The roots were starting to get bounded to the small pots, I was watering two times a day. I added mycorrhizal fungi to the roots and into the hole on the bed.
The position of the plants is to avoid the spot the last plants were, I don’t know the effectiveness of this strategy, just guessing it would be better.
I watered the bed with 2L of AACT diluted in one part water, the soil was a little too dry, I’ll keep manually watering until the plants get a little taller into vegetative stage and than install the Blumats again.
I missed the FIM prune, the result are four leaves cut in half on each plant. To “fix” that I topped both plants yesterday.
The plants shows a lot of side branches growing between the really short internodes distances. I guess this cultivar will be like the last one in terms of plant structure.
The light is hanging in the same height when the plants was in pots, I decided to let the panels far from the plants due to the last stress they suffered, there are still burned leaves from the lights being too close to the plants.
That all for this week :)
Hi!
I removed two more fan leaves to open space for the lower branches to receive more light. Besides that there aren’t much chances from last week, I was out for five days and the plants didn’t change much.
I’m not very confident of the yield of these plants, they are too small for the fourth week of vegetative stage. Hope I’m wrong about that, let’s see…
Hi!
So, from last week the plants grew some more leaves, their aspect are already bushy and I started managing the top colas to create an even canopy.
The light was adjusted to 60cm from the plants at 200W potency, creating a 600 PPFD for the leaves, that’s 38 DLI and the leaf temperature are between 28-29 degrees Celsius while the environment is 30-31 degrees at 67-75% humidity. I’m keeping track of this parameters to calculate the VPD and try to give the best for the ladies.
I also installed the Blumats and they are working as far as I know by looking at it and feeling the soil moisture by hand.
I’m recovering my hope on this plants, they shown a good growth from last week.
Hi!
The plants shows a vigorous growth from last week to this one. The canopy is covering a notable amount of the horizontal space on the bed, but they are really short in height, majorly because of the LST I’m applying to them to spread the canopy instead of growing vertically. When the bed is completely full I’ll stop training horizontally and let them grow vertically. I may also install a trellis net to support them, depending on the amount of buds and structure of the plants, I’m not sure yet.
Humidity is pretty high in my city, about 60-70% without the humidifier on, it’s raining a lot this summer. Temperatures are also high, between 26-30 inside the tent and the leaf temperature are more or less -2 degrees Celsius from the tent temperature.
Light panel stays on the same configuration from last week.
There are some leaves that appears to be burned by light or has some nutrient deficiency, on the nutrients side I guess there is a magnesium deficiency by looking at the pattern on the leaves. I watered with 1g/L of Epson Salt to provide magnesium and I’m hoping that the problem go away.
I’m planing to stay on the vegetative stage for 3 more weeks (21 days) and flip to flowering by the end of January.
That’s it for this week.
Hi!
I did a heavy defoliation on both plants and removed all the lower buds and leaves (lollipop). They recovered the leaves in two days and shot a lot of new branches.
I installed the scrog net and removed the LST wires.
The light is in 12/12 period since Sunday.
Hi!
I’ve been tackling the nodes under the scrog net and defoliating the major fan leaves that blocks any bud site. They are very bushy and grow a lot of big fan leaves from one day to another.
Temperature and humidity are under control. I watered with bokashi and some fungus gnats appeared, I’m watching them closely to avoid major populations, it’s currently under control.
I also took some clones from the lolipop I did last week and planted them on jiffys with rooting hormones.
Hi!
Bud calyxes are forming and the branches stretching, meaning that a successful flip to flowering occurred. I’ve been pushing the branches below the scrog net to form an uniform canopy while branches are still growing in height.
Next Sunday I’ll do a heavy defoliation, leaving only the newer fan leaves closest to the calyx, reorganize the branches under the net and lollipop the lower branches. That will be the last major prune and training I’ll do until harvest.
humidity and temperature are the same as last week, I’m not using the humidifier anymore, since the room humidity is close to the ideal for the flowering phase, and the tent can keep a humid climate.
Light are the same as well, but with the stretching the PPFD and DLI increased a bit, 770PPDF and 33DLI, that’s ok for the initial flowering stage.
I added a cup of worm castings mixed with a high-P bat guano and bone meal and watered with liquid bokashi to inoculate the soil. I stoped the foliar spray since the pistils first appeared.
The clones I took are growing roots on the new seedling greenhouse I bought. From 12 cuts I got 8 that didn’t died, I hope they all root well.
That’s all for the week :)
That’s it :)
Hi!
The plants received a major defoliation on its 21 days from switching to 12/12. This action aim to give more light to the lower buds and focus on bud growing instead of fan leaves production.
I also adjusted the scrog net to the canopy after defoliation. The leaves was dropped on the same soil bed (law of return).
The light panel was fixed to 60cm far from the canopy and it’s now at its max potency (240W). Providing 900PPFD to the highest point of the canopy, making 38DLI.
Temp and humidity remains the same, that’s a risk since humidity is pretty high in my city. 60-70% rH, 27-40°C.
Let’s watch some bud grow from now on, I’m not planning big turning points anymore, just letting it grow.
That’s it :)
Hi!
The upper fan leaves are showing some light burn in their tips, I dimmed down the light a little bit.
Buds are growing vigorously, the canopy is even and open, to provide better air movement inside.
They are drinking a lot of water, I’m refilling my 10L water reservoir every other day, blumats are working hard.
That’s it :)
Hi!
The light burned the top leaves, even with the panel dimmed down a bit. I’m not too worried about it, let’s keep pushing to the harvest.
The smell is incredibly strong, my carbon filter isn’t filtering 100% of the smell, I can smell it from another room in my house. I’m not too worried about this either.
Today the plants complete 42 days (6 weeks) into flowering, the buds are getting fattier and the plants stopped growing in size, as expected.
That’s it for now.
Hi!
Nothing new from last week, just watching the buds mature.
They’re a lot of amber pistils, but looking at the trichomes they are majorly translucent.
I’m expecting to harvest on the first week of April (a little too soon, but it’s the only window of time available for me to harvest)
Hi!
Some branches are falling because of the buds weight, the buds are getting heavier and thick.
The smell is incredible, not so strong, but really present.
I added some cups of bokashi and watered manually to moist the bed evenly, sometimes I think the Blumat drippers can’t spread the moist very well. On the other side, the Blumats are working hard, about 15L every 3-5 days.
I’m watching the trichomes closely with a magnifier, when I see some amber trichomes I’ll use the microscope.
I’ll now wait till the trichomes are at their best, I have to harvest on April 9th because of personal reasons. Hope they’ll be mature when I harvest.
That’s it :)
Hi!
The buds are thick and heavy, branches can’t hold the weight and started falling, I added one string to support them.
Some other branches was getting squeezed by the tent walls when the tent is closed (negative pressure created by the exhaust fan). I moved them away from the walls as far as I could. The canopy is really full.
I successfully changed my agenda to harvest only three weeks from now, which gives more time for the trichomes to mature. Watching closely, the trichomes are majorly translucent, some are cloudy and some rare amber was found today.
The smell is really strong, there is a lot of resin on the buds.
The plants are still drinking a lot of water, for me this means that the plants are far from senescence yet.
That’s it :)
Hi!
This week I’m out of town, but a friend is keeping everything under control, he send me these two photos and that is the updates for this week.
Aiming to harvest on April 24th
Hi!
Just harvest both plants, left them with all their leaves and whole main branch intact. Just removed the light panels and hanged them on the same tent.
I’m using some cardboard to cover the recently watered soil, blumats are still running to support the life on the soil through the next amendment and new plants that will come shortly (after the drying period finishes, about 2 weeks for a slow drying process).
That’s it :)
