Germination
Started out floating the seeds in a shot glass but when they sunk to the bottom after about 12 hours, I didn’t want to risk drowning. Transferred to a wet paper towel (tap water through a taste/odor filter). Tent setup: I set a shelf up about waist high. Added a heating mat. Too hot to place a wet napkin directly on top of. So I placed them next to and added a small fan. The ambient temp of the mat combined with the convection of the fan kept the temp at a very consistent 77.5-78.5. Checked every 8 hrs or so to make sure the paper towel stayed moist…waited 36 more hours and Voila!! 100% success. I’ll wait till tomorrow to put the seeds to soil. I’m looking for the radicles to be about 3x the size of the seed. In the meantime I’ll get initial ph and ec/ ppm readings for both the water and the seedling soil runoff. I’m thinking 6.4 ph and .6 ec should be a good target starting point. From what I’ve read about Mephisto seeds, they tend to be a tad bit sensitive to nutes, so I’ll err on the side of caution. Planted seeds/radicles in a 4” seedlingpot. 75% FoxFarm Happy Frog /25% seed starter. Ran clean ph balanced through till ec was 1.4. (A little higher than I wanted but I’m gonna roll with it. Ph was 6.4. Temp 79*f. Rh 50%. Now we wait. 12/12/22 - It’s A Girl!!!! 12/13/22 - It’s Another Girl!!!! Girl #2 lookin a little funky. We’ll keep an eye on her

HGT Stump Tea 1.302 mll
After the girls sprouted, I took the dome and heat pad away. Added a second T5 light(for extra light, but more so to compensate for the loss of heat from the heat pad. Added a tiny fan to blow across the sprouts to stimulate stem and root development. Also added a couple of sheets of aluminum foil to the tray to capture as much light as I can. Soil is still saturated, so I don’t anticipate them needing anything for a few days; at which time I’ll just give them some stump tea. The first couple of waterings/feedings will be applied with a spray bottle so as not to displace the seeds. Gave the girls their first drink on the morning of day four; water and stump tea. Also added a clip fan in front of the screened main vent to bring a little fresh air in. On day 6 I hung a wet paper towel in front of the fan to raise the rh. Here in the northeast growing in the winter and having forced hot air heat can pose a number of challenges. I’ve managed to keep rh consistently above 55%. So, one week in the books. Probably looking to transplant into 5gal bags in a week or so.

And so the journey continues… Not a lot to report (not always a bad thing). Aside from the water/stump tea on day four, it’s been pretty much hands off. Day eight and the soil still has plenty of moisture. Temp and rh holding fairly steady at 77 an 55 respectively. The Happy Frog soil seems to have enough added nutes to keep the girls, well…Happy! I’m going to start experimenting with soil for the transplant (probably about 10 days away). Probably Happy Frog mixed with a more neutral, better draining soil. I want to start out with something that requires water/nutes every fourth day or so initially. As the plant matures it’ll go to every third day then as we hit late flower probably every other day. I’m staying away from Ocean Forest…the combination of Mephisto Genetics and hot soil scares me. Besides, all that ocean goodness that’s in the OF can be added later in the form of other FoxFarms nutes such as “Kelp Me,Kelp You” and “Wholly Mackerel”. Maybe not quite the same…we’ll see. As always, feedback greatly appreciated. Day 10 - gave the girls there first taste of nutrients…very mild…. .6 ec. @ 6.5 ph Day 11 - Responded really well to their first taste of nutes. No signs of toxicity or deficiency. The girls look ready for takeoff!! Day 14 - Moved the girls into their forever home. Five gallon mesh grow bags from Rain Science. Initial runoff - 1300 ppm. Lights set up at a distance that provides 22,000 lux (about 30”).

Week 3 - Should see a lot of growth this week. Maybe try to train them a little this weekend. I kept the one girl a little too wet for a little too long and got some yellowing on the bottom leaves. Already starting to correct itself. I’ll give them a few days to dry out a little and adjust to their new digs then I’ll hit them with some nutrients… FoxFarms Dirty Dozen week 3 scheduled feeding at half strength. Day 17 - fed/watered 1/2gal per pot. Ph’ed @ 6.3 Day 19 - watered with carbon filtered tap water (forgot to ph. So ph was 6.9. The soil itself is pretty acidic, so the runoff ph still tested at 6.3. And we’re 12 hours in now with no adverse effects). Gave them about a gallon each (till I saw about 10% runoff). Day 20 - moved the lights from being hung directly from the tent frame to hanging on a hoist. This lowered them about 4”, which increased the temp to 82, so I turned on the exhaust fan to bring it back down to 77. In a small tent like this, atmosphere control is most of the work

Day 22 - Hit the girls with their first substantial set of nutes. Day 23 - It’s a girl!!!! First appearance of calyx and pistils. Biggest day of growth since day 1. Just barely starting to see nutes at the leaf tip… running at full capacity! Day 25 - watered 3/4 gal; filtered ph’d tap 6.5 ph
