Devil Fruit Auto (Smell of Success x Ogreberry) by Twenty20 Mendocino
This is an A-Team R&D grow. I’m proud to be a member of the Twenty 20 team. Our focus is to bring you amazing genetics. Before strains are released they must go through many trials and grows to determine if are worthy for home growers. This is one of those test grows. I hope you enjoy!
Update: on day 5 the germinated seeds were put into soil. On day 6 they were already emerged from the soil. They were watered in using a microbe tea and put under the main light at 10% power for the time being.
I don’t think of this as the first week of Veg, but I didn’t get an option for extending germination. They are still very well in their seedling stage. Everything is looking good. They started to get leggy, so increased the power and lowered the light closer to the seedlings.
Start of week 2 Veg. I transplanted all the ladies and watered in with a nice microbe tea. This will help with the transplant shock. The supplies needed for my irrigation system should be here today, so I might be able to set it up today or next week at the latest.
The girls seem to be doing good. Last week I was ashamed to see thrip damage on my leaves. I’ve been growing for almost 10 years and this is the first time I’ve encountered thrips. So even seasoned growers have things to learn. I’ve watered with nematodes as well as Mercenary and foliar spraying daily. I’ve been looking closely at each plant every day and I think I stopped them before their population got out of hand. I won’t stop spraying until flower so it should keep them away.
Week 3 Veg.
I was still seeing a couple of thrip larvae wiggling around, so I went with a friends suggestion and upgraded to Dr Zymes Eliminator. Today was the first treatment spray. The thrip population has severely dropped and I’m seeing lots of new healthy growth. I’m even seeing preflowers! These girls are gonna be squat, strong plants.
All of the girls have stayed very small and squat after the leggy seedling stage. This is a direct result of the proper lighting as well as the Bloom Khaos/Optic Transport foliar spray that I am applying this round. The nodes are stacked literally on top of each other. They are all right around 5 nodes high, which means all the photos will be topped as soon as I can pinch the tops safely.
Week 4 Veg. The girls barely noticed the defoliation. Already there’s new and strong growth. Some of the girls are showing slight signs of calcium deficiency, which just means I need to bump up their feedings a wee bit. I decided to let the runt live, and I’m surprised of the new growth she is showing. She is looking like the underdog of the grow for sure. Shouldn’t be a whole lot else to do this week but watch them grow!
Week 5
The little girls are starting to fluff up. I squeezed a bit of the frost. We’re getting a sweet berry smell so far. Very pleasant. I’m enjoying the structure on these girls. Nice and stacked. I don’t think they will put out any larf whatsoever.
Week 7
Girls are beefin up. One of them is farther along than the others. This could be coincidence, but it is in a RainScience Auto pot and the other are not. This pot is different from the others because it is narrow and taller. The idea is that the tap root can have more room to grow. Next round of autos I will have more of these pots to tell.
The runt is still behind, but not far. I’m glad I decided not to cull her at the last minute.
Week 8
I am seeing many notable differences in the Devil Fruit Auto. Two of the 7 are only growing fan leaves with 3 blades. Two are so frosty they appear white. One has more girth than the others. A lot of genetic traits coming through, although none of them look to be negative traits. Trichomes are telling me they could still go for another couple weeks, even though fade is coming on strong for a couple of them.
Week 9
This is the last week for these girls. Next update will be harvest! Absolutely sweet stank and sticky as hell. Can’t wait! I’ll be putting details for each plant and explaining some of the differences between the expressed phenotypes.
Well I wasn’t satisfied with the amount of amber in the trichomes so I’m letting them go one more week. It will be the last week regardless of trichomes lol. I will try to have some trich shots soon. My loupe attachment for my phone broke so I’m ordering a more reliable scope.
Devil Fruit Auto has come down at 74 days. Overall this strain was a breeze to grow. All 7 plants showed very uniform growth. Side branching stacked very well and gave very dense and very large nugs. All were grown in 5 gallon Rain Science pots.m. Due to not having a separate drying room I am not able to dry these girls with photos still flowering. Something I overlooked, so these girls will be processed into live bubble hash. Trimming was a breeze. Minimal fan leaves to remove. It took me only an hour and a half to trim 7 plants by hand. All girls have been mostly green with just slight hues of purple.
Terpenes: two of the girls had a strawberry and fuel smell. Very pleasant. The other 5 had a burnt rubber and onion smell. Someone told me they are 100% sure it smells like Funyuns lol. I’d say it’s very close! Very stanky but in the very best way.
