SommerVirelli Queen of Diamonds (MMXX #48 x Bubbawhip #A17)
This is an A-Team R&D grow. I’m proud to be a member of the Twenty 20 team. Our focus is to bring you amazing genetics. Before strains are released they must go through many trials and grows to determine if are worthy for home growers. This is one of those test grows. I hope you enjoy!
Update: on day 5 the germinated seeds were put into soil. On day 6 they were already emerged from the soil. They were watered in using a microbe tea and put under the main light at 10% power for the time being.
All but one seed popped up. It was still in its shell, but I planted along with the other to see if it will emerge.

SommerVirelli I really don’t like to think of this as Week 1 of Veg but there isn’t a seedling stage for the diary. It’s all good tho. The girls were looking a little leggy so I increased the power and dropped the light closer. So far everything looks to be off to a good start.

SommerVirelli Start of week 2 Veg. I transplanted all the ladies and watered in with a nice microbe tea. This will help with the transplant shock. The supplies needed for my irrigation system should be here today, so I might be able to set it up today or next week at the latest.
The girls seem to be doing good. Last week I was ashamed to see thrip damage on my leaves. I’ve been growing for almost 10 years and this is the first time I’ve encountered thrips. So even seasoned growers have things to learn. I’ve watered with nematodes as well as Mercenary and foliar spraying daily. I’ve been looking closely at each plant every day and I think I stopped them before their population got out of hand. I won’t stop spraying until flower so it should keep them away.

SommerVirelli Week 3 Veg.
I was still seeing a couple of thrip larvae wiggling around, so I went with a friends suggestion and upgraded to Dr Zymes Eliminator. Today was the first treatment spray. The thrip population has severely dropped and I’m seeing lots of new healthy growth. To make up for what they have suffered I may have to give the photos an extra week of Veg growth.
All of the girls have stayed very small and squat after the leggy seedling stage. This is a direct result of the proper lighting as well as the Bloom Khaos/Optic Transport foliar spray that I am applying this round. The nodes are stacked literally on top of each other. They are all right around 5 nodes high, which means all the photos will be topped as soon as I can pinch the tops safely.
Week 3 Veg update. The girls were topped at the fifth node and stripped. The girls that were given a scrog screen were left with only the top 2 nodes and the rest were removed. The ones that are being trained with clips have 3. I like using two or 3 nodes when scrogging. It’s makes it easier for training as well as more uniform yields.

SommerVirelli Week 4 Veg.
The girls barely noticed the defoliation and topping. Already there’s new and strong growth. By the end of the week we should be able to start LST and scrog training. Some of the girls are showing slight signs of calcium deficiency, which just means I need to bump up their feedings a wee bit. Shouldn’t be a whole lot else to do this week but watch them grow!

SommerVirelli Week 5 Veg
I gave the girls another haircut. It will be the last one before flipping to flower. I’ll do my usual last defoliation at the end of week 3 in flower. I might do one more week of Veg, or I might flip at the end of this week. I will decide for sure on that day. I know they look thin and small, but they will 100% fill those scrogs during the stretch. It’s going to be awesome!

Compared to how quickly the other girls have switched to flower, the Queen of Diamonds looks to be slightly behind. But this isn’t a race, it’s a marathon!

I am very surprised that the QoD girls didn’t stretch more than what they did. They barely doubled in size. This is important to note if I were to grow this strain again in a scrog setup, I would extend the Veg time to fill more of the screen up before flipping to flower. It doesn’t look like it will fill the entire screen right now, but we made some important discoveries on how we can dial this strain in.

These girls are getting super sticky. So sticky I need gloves if I’m doing anything with them. I love the smell but I hate when hair and crap sticks to me lol.

It has been chaos lately and I missed last weeks update completely. This will be the last week of regular feeding. Then starts 2 weeks of ripening before chop! Most of the fan leaves have almost completely solid amber trichomes.

Herculean Harvest
15.85 mll
SommerVirelli Week 8 and the girls are ready for harvest! I’ll post a few pics here and the rest on the harvest week. I usually do not harvest this early, but there are a lot of things going on right now that led me to chop early. I’ll be in a new grow space soon!
SommerVirelli Untopped - the plant kept a very low and compact structure. Strong side branching that gave multiple colas despite not being topped. Very frosty and the large trichomes feel like sand to the touch! 4.33 oz
Topped/clip trained - although the untopped plant gave good side growth, the topped and trained plant gave many more side colas. Definitely looks like she enjoys being topped. 8.55 oz
Scrog 1 - I feel I could have done better with the scrog. This plant did not give a big stretch compared to most strains. This led to the screen being only half filled. A note on scrogging this QOD, I suggest filling the screen completely up during Veg before flipping to flower, as well as topping more than once to encourage strong side branching. 7.80 oz
Scrog 2 - this specific plant showed more compact node structure, giving many uniform tops and colas. This expression would have made a wonderful scrog grow with multiple plants of the same kind. 7.35 oz
