My sister told me that I was so excited about preparing for my babies that she felt I was adopting a litter of kittens. I enjoyed this simile and have decided to call them my kittens from now on.

Brought kittens home from Harborside dispensary in Oakland. The dude working the counter there was absolutely incredible. He was knowledgeable and never once talked down to me despite me not knowing what I was talking about. They are all Dark Heart Nursery heartlets except for Chemdog which is a premium. It was only a five dollar difference and absolutely worth the money. I got them home and with gloves transferred them into one gallon plastic pots with good drainage and filled with Mother Nature Soil that I purchased from Hayward Hydroponics. The gentleman working there assured me that I do not need additional nutrients and that adding them would incur a burn. So, I will wait a month to introduce some nutrients unless I notice an issue earlier. We have naturally hard and high water in our area but I have no chem background so I just dumped a small amount of PH Down into a container of water and then checked the PH again. It seemed to have done the trick but I will try to have a more scientific approach next time. Temp was a little high (85-75) so I put my personal fan in the tent to keep them cool, which left me a little warm but I'll live. Lights went on at 2:30 pm.

Lights went off at 7:30am. I was going to let the kittens breathe by leaving the flaps open but apparently, I read, the darkness is just as important as the light in their cycle so I zipped them back up until about 3:00pm. I checked the PH again and it was still high so I added a little more PH water and it seemed to go back down. I don't know how much I love my PH tester, TBH, I didn't realize that I could only test soil and not water, which isn't helpful for preventing mistakes, only fixing them once they've occurred.
I definitely need to come up with a better system for storing my various waters.
Well, it didn't take long for me to run into problems.
Unfortunately a lot of symptoms look similar for different reasons. Generally, it was a combination of wind burn and bad pH. It turns out my pH tester was garbage and I bought a new one at the clerks suggestion. At the end of week one Do-si-do looks very haggard, but chemdog is still growing like a champion.
Hello @evelibertine! HM digital PH-200. I use it for about 4 years with no problem, with properly maintenance ( regular cleaning, calibration and keeping the probe humid with ph probe solution ) and its completely water proof. Happy growing ! 👊
I bought a set of PH & PPM meters from Amazon for about $20 for the pair. They seem to work OK, but one of the meters broke within a month, so I contacted them and they sent me a replacement set. Not mentioning the brand since I do expect them to fail again at some point requiring me to purchase something else. I guess you probably need to spend more than $20 for something more reliable. Let us know what you end up with and if you like it.
