Seeds from last years Durban (I left part of the plant intact to force seeds, but the self seeding process may have began after a hail storm)
Seed 1 was mature and the seedling is going strong - purple/pink stem already
Seed 2 was smaller, and took 1 extra day to pop. Will definitely be a smaller, less robust plant but it’s getting stronger
Lighting setup is not ideal, but no signs of stress with 16/8 + 2 hours of full sun thru a window. It’s mainly the UVs, not the intensity that stresses seedlings
(Wk 2 from sprout)
Seed 1 continues to outpace Seed 2, but both clearly aren't crazy about the low humidity. both are extremely sturdy. Fully saturating the coco every 2-3 days (rain water when possible) - it's usually dry after 2 full days. no nutes yet but Added rootmax mycos, we'll see the results in a couple of weeks. the 2 hours of direct sunlight are def helping limit the stretch. next weekend i plan on repotting seed 1 into its final pot (20l). seed 2 stay in the smaller pot until i see roots and less stress
Final grow medium will be around 30-30-40 Coco-Perlite-Soil in a pot with drilled holes covered with a breathable material to prevent too much water and substrate to escape
D1: 33l fabric pot
D2: 27l Plastic pot w/ holes drilled for aeration (was so paranoid about overwatering, in hindsight I’d only do a couple of holes - painin the ass for watering
Transplanted with rootmax + compost tea
Final substrates: 10% peat, 10% coco coir, 6% spagnum 6% sand; 20% perlite 10% vermiculite 3% red volcanic rock; 33% homemade compost
2 distinct pheno: D1 has much thinner leaves than D2. D2 has thicker lateral branches and is less bushy. D1 has been more vigorous since germinated
D2 was topped June 3 after recovering from previous top + heat stress
Fim’d one side branch on d1 because there was a caterpillar setting up shop
Added pine mulch for water retention
Watering with compost tea
D1 was completely dried out after watering 2.5L 5 days previous - downside of fabric pots outdoors. At this point, D2 started looking more vigorous for the first time. D1 was FIM’d 2x, whereas D2 was topped 2x which leads me to think that FIMing is more stressful than topping
First attempt at supercropping on D1, stressful but didn’t turn out too bad 😂
D1 starting to preflower despite the days getting longer - and yes I’m sure it’s not an auto
Both are growing rigorously
Added diatomaceous earth for the silica
Started using new mycorrhizae (TNC MYCORRPLUS) in compost tea + brown sugar. Really like the mycorrplus, has a range of useful fungi + the essentials for a healthy plant
D1 is a bit more hybridy than D2 (and/or just stronger). No tiredness from D2
D1 tastes amazing in vape, better than D2 but something about D2’s smoke is nice - the geranium undertones. Bottom line D2 is perfect day smoke
After curing 3 weeks: D1 lemony and sweet, really good flavor profile
D2: earthy-floral (ocimene), woody-pine, def most unique odor profile
Flavors:
D1: lemon (w grinder), apple (top note), sweet (top note)
D2: berry (?), flowers (geraniums), tropical (?), pine; spices (not sure which)
