She got a 2-node top at the end of the week. Nothing unusual to report, looking good so far. Last day of this grow week was a recovery day, but still moving along. She should be up and running soon. She sits with a total of 4 main branches, or half of my last run in this cabinet.

How much do you think I set her back? I tried cutting the first set of leaves with my glasses off and the nick is pretty good with both sides of the scissors. It’s not horrendous but it’s definitely cut on both sides. Thoughts?

can't see what you are talking about but if the leaves didn't droop it's not too bad of damage. don't try to cut it so close. it's okay to leave a bit of petiole behind. the plant will seal up within 24-48 hours. no big deal. whatever damage you caused will grow back stronger. even if leaves droop still can heal. snapping a stem, taping it up to preserve shape and hold it together - it'll heal even in this context, which is worse than what i cannot quite see here.

After a 2-node top, I left 4 main branches for this 18 x 24 cabinet. 8 branch grow is a jungle from experience, but any idea if a 2-branch grow would be better than a 4 branch grow with my given space?

Based on my experience, a 4-branch grow would generally be better than a 2-branch grow in your given space of an 18 x 24 cabinet. Having more branches allows for better light distribution and increased potential for bud development. With 4 main branches, you can achieve a more balanced and productive canopy. However, it's important to consider factors such as strain characteristics, training techniques, and available light intensity to optimize your grow. It's always a good idea to experiment and find the best approach that works for your specific setup. Good luck with your grow!

I’ve had very light green leaves last few weeks. Light PPFD is 500-600 right now. Since I switched back to GH Flora Trio with a fresh reservoir and a good dose. Newer growth on newish leaves seems to be coming in much greener. N deficieny or light burn? Something else?

I really don’t know but my guess is they are using a ton of resources to begin flower, and it’s showing. I do see this somewhat often in the first weeks of flower the new growth looks a little light

I have some 3 blades at the top part of the canopy. Variables nearly always in check, so no stressors there. But, any thoughts to “normal” weird shit for autoflowers or is a DLI of 45 possible too much for the top of canopy causing stress and less blades? Plant seemingly healthy.

first time growing this strain?? If it's the same environmentals you've used in the past with other stains and had good results I would just go with the flow. But it it gets worse lowering the DLI would be a good start. One site I just google said its a stress response but only if its not genetic lol. It looks like some the leaves are curling up at the tips or tacoing on the sides in top canopy. If ambient air temps are ok are leaf temps elevated or with normal range? Only way I know to check this is with a IR thermometer. I have yet to grow anything with a DLI of 45 on a 20/4 photoperoid. Could always try to give it a bit more downtime and slightly lower DLI. or just increase light intensity to still hit your 45 DLI target but more dark time for them. I tend not to go over 18/6 Just a guess not a real solution, Good Luck!

Does anyone else stop feeding Si once bulking kicks in good? If so, why do you do it?

I use Si and I've found it to be a game changer. I keep giving it till the flush. It's such an amazing product because it helps make your plant stronger by making your stems thicker and reinforced. During my second grow (I hadn't started using Si) I had an issue where the main cola broke off because it wasn't strong enough and that was a painful experience. On the other hand during another grow (where I was using Si), I had a branch break off (because I was too high to be doing LST) and it hung on by 25% of itself because it was relatively thick and it still made it till the end. This of course isn't a story for purely Si, but I (and I know there are a couple others) believe in it whole heartedly. Good Luck on your grow, hope this helped

Looks like some light burn on the taller tops? If I turn light intensity down to 35-38, I lose intensity to lower buds. I wonder if lowering intensity, and get in there with a little defol below those tall tops, is a remedy? I’ll be under 400 PPFD without defol on lower.

Its an option. Lower intensity is less energy + less leaves it might not add up. I'd keep it as is. and use some LST if available to raise light, also if its available. Good Luck!

Does topping an auto, leaving 2 nodes, create a shorter plant when compared to topping the same plant at node 4? This lady stay right at 20" and although genetics has plenty to say in any outcome, is there any consensus that topping with less nodes will aid in a shorter plant?

because vege time is on a biological clock, and assuming we don't cause it to go off with stress or whatever, i'd expect any pruning reduces yield, but only what you cut off, since resources are not lost and will be redistributed elsewhere, but you still lose whatever was pruned off. that's a small portion of the biologically-limited vege time lost with an autoflower. so if you don't cut off much and it shapes the plant better for the light or the space it has to fit, it could easily be a net benefit. ... as long as it doesn't get stunted from an early pruning like that.. i think that'd be the main concern there. if some significant percent turn into runts due to that stress can make it an easy no-go decision. sever lst could probably do it too, for that matter. piss it off enough and it's triggering early and you get a tiny plant.

humm.... I want to say yes but its kinda hogwash in my thinking. Let me try and break it down. If you are topping at node 2 vs node 4 It could be theorized that the plant at the 4th node has more leaves below the pinched top vs the 2nd node topped plant. Given it has more leaves, the ability to recover is slightly faster as it can make more energy vs the 2nd node topped plant with less leaves, it also has the height advantage of 2 extra nodes when you top it at the 4th vs 2nd so it closer to the light increasing intensity but not by much. So if they grew the same and where like computers and predictable, the 4th node topping would be taller and be able to recover faster, In theory. Real world application, I have no fucking idea lol. I think your speculation on genetics really just throws a wrench in the cogs. Genetics also could trump this whole theory if all if the plants vigour even when topped at whatever node outperforms a plants that was not topped. and I bet that has happened many times. I still top at the 3rd to 5th node most times, never at 2nd. I know "this" is not a solution but it's how I think of it. Good Luck!

Not really, but the general consensus on it is that if you top earlier the plant might not have enough strength to recover. Good luck with the rest of your grow, it's looking amazin

Is there any need for KoolBloom Dry in the last two weeks? I keep my nutrient line up minimal. In the past I slowly starved the plant of PPM over the last 2 weeks, and will use straight water for the last few days before chop (pure white ash). Bloom booster BS? Use it?

From my understanding koolbloom it is not needed in last few weeks. I have read they want sugars and I've seen some add in brown sugar into the watering but anytime I do this the medium gets fucked and infested with springtails like nobodies business so I don't do it. As for white ash. It is based how hot the product is burned and how densely its packed as well as its moisture content. over packed won't burn well. under packed won't burn well. to moist won't burn well. the colour of the ash is irrelevant to the quality of the bud or its mineral content. That's my understanding on it. Good Luck!

I just observed a dramatic change in PH change with a reservoir change 4 days old. PH stability has been insanely even the entire grow. Do I gradually reduce nutes until low ppm for last few days, or feed as much as possible without ph swings?

most hydro doses are not that high to start. Plants in the earth are not hindered in any way by having access to nutrients up until harvest. Bet you can find earth used to grow marijiana and all sorts of other stuff with higher EC than a typical hydro setup and no damage to the crops. i'd wager real money that the pH remaining steady is more correlated to some measurable effect than how much fertilizer you give over a few days. in either case, 3 days is a small proportion of the total. if you have individual buckets and these are clones, test it.. doubt you can't tell a difference in any blindn taste test.

I used a 2 gal reservoir on this grow with compact AF genetics, a day-20 from tap-sprout topping, leaving 2 nodes to grow. Which variable contributed to the deliciously short height achieved? Would a 1 gallon hydro grow further reduce plant height with all other variables same?

The topping and LST were a major factor for the height for sure but strain and even seeds differ from one another. Nice grow btw. Keep it up

Noticeable bump in bulking at the end of the week. Looks like the following week will be the productive one. This strain is “short/compact” verified on this run. All variables in check, and finding the sweet spot @ 800ppm with 200ppm of that in Calmag in flower. Lowered DLI to about 38 last week, and may blast her next week with DLI of 45, and drop it again. Getting pretty thick with leaves, but I’m going to let her hair down on this one and refrain from the scissors which I tend to use liberally.

I think my dosing debacles had a negative effect at the wrong time of the cycle. Bud production has been nearly nothing in the last couple days. Outside the mishaps, there were numerous a—ha! moments that have led to some significant improvements to the system. Thank you fuck ups!

Well, I didn’t flood my res once with full strength PH, but 4 damn times in a day and a half! Don’t ask, I’ll blame it on the product. Issue resolved now so I’ll chalk it up to what I learned. There are no mistakes in R&D, only the elimination of future mishaps!

First 2-node and really liking it with a Purple Kush autoflower. Genetics are inline of claims and super short. She may top out at 20”. So much easier to manage than 4+ node grows in tiny places. Half the water, nutes, training, etc. I’m sure it will reflect the end game, but the harvest of the good shit may not be far off from others in that the space is nearly filled. I see a one node grow in the future, why not?
