-Prepped Coco Coir prior to planting by flushing w RO water to reach 50 PPM. Then added initial nute mix to pot one day prior planting. The first Creme de La Chem see I tried to germinate had not germinated after 7 days which was very atypical of my past experience with Mephisto seeds which have ALL germinated within a day or 2 do the first root before placing in the soil. So this is actually the 2nd seed which behaved as I've come to expect.
5/20-Soaked seed overnite in tap water at room temp.
5/21-Seed spouted root
5/22-Planted seed in the medium
Week #2-May 31 to June 6
6/1-Growing nicely
6/2-Did full soak watering today which should last for a couple of days. Runoff numbers were right on target with inputs. 3rd node is starting. So far so good!
6/4-Increased nute load a bit. Did full watering to runoff. Runoff in sync with inputs.
6/6-First 2 weeks have gone smoothly. Plant looks healthy and 5th node is just starting to emerge. I'll wait another day or two and then top/fim and see how the plant handles it.
Week #3-June 7 to June 13
6/7-FIMmed the plant between nodes 4&5. Will monitor for adverse impact.
6/8-Starting some gentle LST separating branches a bit. No adverse affects from FIM so far. I'm making a conscious effort to not overwater this CDLC. I'd planned a watering this morning after skipping a day but there is still moist media so I will wait a bit until its 25% dry.
6/9-increased the nute load for week 3. Watered to 20% runoff. Runoff synced perfectly with inputs. The FIM area is healing quickly and showing no adverse effects. Move the plant to the big tent. I've got the lights set to mostly blue spectrum at 570 PPfd. So far so good.
6/10-Plant continues to grow nicely. Up to 4 inches high. The FIM area has recovered nicely and is started the regrowth. Looks like we might get 4 new colas in the end. Cut 2 lower leaves from bottom. On this grow I want to keep the bottom of the plant pruned from early on to see if it encourages lusher tops.
6/12-Did another full soak watering today. Runoff was 300 ppm higher than input so I did a slight 'mini-flush' with RO water only to bring the numbers in line. Will water again in 2-3 days. The area that I Fimmed is now showing multiple ( 5 to 6) new branches forming 5 days after. I continue to be impressed with how hearty and resilient all the Mephisto seeds are.
6/13-First 3 weeks were pretty easy. Plant is looking good and bushy although it is only 4.5 inches so far. I cut 4 big lower leaves to open things up a bit and encourage some upward growth.
Week #4-June 14 to June 20
6/14-The plant is looking very healthy. It is slowly getting taller (5 inches now) but is still relatively short and squatty which is going to make it difficult to get light in below the top. I'm trying to gently separate the top branches w LST until she starts to stretch. Gave a full watering to runoff which was in sync with inputs.
6/16-Plant is still very short so even though the growth is healthy there is not a lot of light getting in so I tried a little bit different approach w LST to bend the big trunk over to get some light in from the side. Watered to runoff today. Numbers in sync w inputs.
6/18-Did some defoliation to get some light to the potential bud sites. I cut out about 3-4 large leaves that were blocking the undergrowth which was getting too dense because the plant is still short. I may have overdone it this time.
6/20-After 4 weeks I think this one is in good shape. Starting to get a bit taller (6" now). No sign of pre-flowering yet so I'll hold off on transitioning to bloom feed for the moment.
Week #5-June 21 to June 27
6/21-Plant is definitely starting to stretch. It grew almost 1 inch yesterday to almost 7 inches. Still no sign of preflower.
6/23-Defoliated the lower portion of plant
6/25-Watered to runoff with new nute mix-inputs were good but PH was much lower than input and ppm higher. Will monitor and mini-flush
6/26-First signs of preflower-switching to bloom nute schedule
6/27-First 5 weeks are done. Plant is looking healthy and I see first signs of preflower. Up to 8 inches height. Watered to runoff...ph is still lower than input but closer to 5 and ppm are in line now.
Week #6-June 28 to July 4
6/28-The plant is finally starting to stretch vertically which is allowing me to do some LST to spread the lower branches a bit for a wider canopy. Continuing to to trim the undergrowth.
6/30-Watered to runoff. Plant is healthy but still has not grown very tall. Some more signs of preflower but it seems a bit behind schedule. This one looks like its going to take 11-12 weeks to get all the way.
7/4-Plant has entered flowering phase. It's starting to stretch...up to 10 inches now. I've switched nute mix to bloom phase. Looking to see some real stretching and bud development this coming week.
Week #7-July 5 to July 11
7/8-Did some major defoliation to get some light into the plant. It's starting to stretch now so the branches are a little easier to LST.
Week #8-July 12 to July 18
7/14-Plant has continued to stretch to 15 inches now. Bud sites are starting to take shape. Plant still feels like I might have stunted her growth by over managing things. I think this one will definitely wind up going longer than as advertised.
7/17-Stretch to 18 inches
Week #8-July 19 to July 25
7/25-Plant is continuing to bulk up but is lacking much frostiness and smell. Most of the top pistils are still white and the buds are just not very big. It feels like this one is either still a ways from harvest or I messed something up. I think this one's yield is going to be very small in the end but I hope the quality is there. Let's see if things pick up in the end.
Week #10-July 26 to Aug 1
7/30-Continuing to fatten up. Still not as frosty as I would like. Runoff numbers are in line. I think we've got another 2-3 weeks before harvest.
7/31-Trichomes are all cloudy and the very first tiny signs of amber starting. Will monitor now over next couple of weeks.
8/1-10 weeks done now and it looks like we've still got a couple of weeks to go now. Added Overdrive to the mix for the last couple of weeks. Did some light defoliation to make sure all the buds are exposed.
Week #11-Aug 2 to Aug 8
8/3-Trichomes are slowly starting to get amber. No sign of yellow leaves yet. I'll take another look at trichome color at 77 days.
8/8-Buds are really startening to fatten up. Leaves are starting to get yellow. More amber in the trichomes as well. Next week I'll start a slow flush with water only.
Week #11-Aug 9 to Aug 15
8/9-Started flushing with RO water and Flawless Finish.
8/11-Flushed to 750 ppm.
8/12-Flushed to 550 ppm. Did a pre-trim before harvest and drying. Buds are definitely getting close now. More amber each day. I think this one gets to 84 days.
8/15-Did final flush down to 100 ppm. Trichomes are now turning amber in a big way. The buds have gotten very dense and firm. I'm done watering now and will just let the plant do its thing for the next 2-3 days and then harvest. I'm hoping to get at least 3 ounces when all is said and done.
8/16-This grow was a bit trickier than I expected compared to previous Mephisto seeds I've grown. Was not nearly as sticky and resiny. Yield was not huge but the buds were very dense and well formed. I'll let her dry for 7-10 days and then cure for 3-4 weeks. I'm dying to see how she smokes. Expected dry yield is 2.5 to 3 ounces.
