Each sprout is already leggy, so I made a little hill around each one.
I used President's Choice soil since that's what was in our garage already.
Each plant is in a hanging basket, to maximize sun & wind in our otherwise shaded backyard (and so the dog doesn't eat my weed!)
A little more fertilizer earlier this week, and finally I'm getting more leaves on these skinny teenagers!
Weather has been very hot and humid generally but today was cooler and drier.
Cooler and drier this past week with more wind. Topped up with Jobe's organic root fertilizer today and watered until it poured through the bottom.
More sun would be ideal but I'm still excited about hanging baskets for these auto flowers.
Daytime humidity has really come down this week - usually 30-50% range but nights are very humid.
Took a break on Jobe this week, really hope I'll get some flowering soon.
Removed lower fan leaves after I snapped the pics.
Finally, some stigma are growing! Looking forward to the flowering phase. I switched to a blooming fertilizer instead of Jobe.
Cool windy days this last week so hopefully the stem is strong.
Did not measure the height this week but they are tall!
Gave the nutrients a break this week. Soil is staying damp 2-3 days so keeping an eye on that as well. Both plants are tall and skinny but I hope flowering really takes off soon.
Look at these goddesses! Minor soil infestation of gnats so I spritzed some water mixed with a tiny amount of dish detergent.
I'm going to keep up the Gaia green but back off on heavy watering since I had rot and mould problems last summer.
I took these pics on August 6, 2023.
The ladies are looking good!
Flowering is going slow but steady.
The smell has been evolving into something a little more edgy.
After 2 weeks away with my in-laws taking care of the ladies, I'm a little disappointed the flowering isn't further along.
I took a chance and removed a bunch of fan leaves (less than 50%, and mainly the rusty-looking ones). It's probably my last chance to do that to boost flowering.
Might try a different fertilizer this week.
Trichomes still clear... I'm waiting!
I tried a little MiracleGro this week to speed things along. Normally I'm not a fan of something that chemically or processed but my petunias seem into it.
