Put four seeds in glass of water overnight, then transferred to damp cotton pads in plastic tub covered in foil. Left on heat mat. First tap root appeared within 24hrs, second two closely followed. Still waiting for fourth seed after four days, so I’ve put a fifth seed in water. Three seeds are showing first leaves after four days.
Started a fifth seed in water. As of today, I have 4/5 seeds germinated and in 1l airports. I hope the final seed will catch up with the rest as it’s about a week behind. I’ve been struggling to control the temperature without having the extractor on a super high setting. I added some ducting to vent in from a cooler room - this helped keep the temperature at a steady 27C with fan speed on 4. I was struggling to keep it below 29C before this. My timer arrived so I’ve switched from 24-0 to 18-6. This has also helped with temperature control and will hopefully cut down on electricity which is around £3 a day. I’ll probably try 24-0 for the next grow.
I’m going away for three days. I’ve lowered the light from 50cm above the plants to 35cm and lowered the intensity from 100% to 40%. I’ve left the plant pots in a saucer with 4l or so of water. Not sure if this was sensible but hopefully the plants will survive until I come back.
End of week 2 and the babies have absolutely ballooned in size. They were fine with the water I left in the tray while I was away. I think I’ll move them into their final pots pretty soon but may give the small one a chance to catch up a bit. One plant is showing some brown spots. I haven’t added any additional nutrients to the watering yet.
Made a big error in not pHing the tap water I was giving to the plants. I assumed it was fine but when the plants started showing signs of nute burn and lockout in Biobizz LightMix, I tested and realised it was pH 7.8 😫. Repotted into 5L pots this week and have watered with pH 5.5 to bring the soil to 6.8. Will lower again slightly next time I water. They do seem to have recovered though.
Oh god. Plants very not happy. I’m thinking it’s lockout caused by very hard tap water. Have flushed with pHd rainwater. Thinking about getting an RO filter.
