Germination Formula : De-mineralised water 50ml, 0.7ml Hydrogen Peroxide 50% strength, small squirt of Diluted IBA. Formula adjusted to PH 5.5.
Multiple seeds soaked in segmented container for no more than 24 hours. Any seeds popped are transferred individually to moisturised tissue from formula. Excess formula drained.
The groups of seeds are germinated in a staggered fashion, one or two strains at a time in case of any issues or contamination.
Seeds to rest and develop tap root before transfer to Peat moss sponge.
Seedlings are grown in DWC hydroponic units holding up to 18 plants. The LED light of 15w produces 4000 lux (65ppfd) to 12,000 lux (220 ppfd) both lights combined (30watts) can achieve 19,000 lux (310 ppfd) which is sufficient for seedling to later stage vegatative growth.
At this point the plants will be transferred to the large grow tent for transition to flowering.
100% Success rate from germination.
Two seedlings have shown aberration/mutation. One has a tri-cotyledon, this may prove itself later, if so it won't be used for breeding. The other seedling has a hunched stem and slowed growth. Any speculation or anecdotes are welcome.
Sour diesels moved to grow tent as they proved to be rapid in development. They were first to be germinated therefore up to a week ahead of the hatch.
Grow tent uses Bato buckets with drip feed reservoir. Feeding is automated with in-house constructed tuya smart switch system.
This system manages feeding/watering cycles using r385 diaphragm pumps. Nutrient dosing is controlled by an array of peristaltic pumps.
Water testing is done using a tuya/yinmik 7in1 water QC monitor. It provides real time information and links to wifi so any adjustments can be effected immediately.
Light cycle 04:00 to 22:10 at 12k lux (220ppfd) gradual increase to 22.5k lux (400 ppfd).
Nutrient solution kept low in drip feed system, feed/watered 8 times per day, 7 minute drip 1 hour periods in morning moving to 2 hour interval, pause 4 hours, back to 2 hours. I may change this schedule to spread the feeding over more intervals with shorter amounts.
Had issue when ec dropped to 0.8 (400ppm), one plant started yellowing, ec restored to 1.2, plant recovered with a day.
Had some leaf deformity in one of the germination dwc units. The new leaves looked spotted and chewed. At first I was concerned it was thrips and pwm. but now I believe it was a nutrient issue. Applied more CalMag as well as general nutrient top up. These ladies are hungry!
Big transition week. 14 of the 18 have matured to progression.
Two CBD northern lights failed during germination/seedling stage, one remains with stunted growth.
Tri-leaf and hunched plant not moved (died).
8 more plants moved from hydro box to grow tent total now 11.
Initial plant shock, lights dimmed and leaves trimmed on those affected. LST commenced
The plants seem to be settled after a rough week of LST and topping and pruning. A few clones have been taken. Now to let them grow for 2 weeks before light flip. The Sumseeds gnomes are never far though, keeping an eye on them 24/7 with the garden cam.
These ladies seems to have recovered for the most part, the sour diesels were the first to germinate and have been consistently in first place, 2nd the AK420s.
CBD Deep Mandarines has also done well. One more week and will start to transition to flower
Ladies have been spread out and seperated, some of them over-sized due to extra 2 weeks of veg. Had to prune the tops of two big girls to allow for bloom stretching.
Time-lapse video to be uploaded
Healthy ladies 3 weeks into veg. Big girls with so many bud sites, The garden gnomes don't really prune too much except for undergrowth, rather just tidy up and assist as these girls know their needs and can use up their fatty leaves when required. I supplement with bloom booster and my own mix of potassium nitrate. They are very hungry. Lights are turned right up! This week plants will begin pollination for a lot of the bud sites. Selected females for STS spray have started to drop pollen from their ball sacs. Hopefully we'll see tons of seeds.
