Afghan Autoflower from Sun West Genetics.
Received 1 free seed and decided to pop it right away for fun while starting a different project.
Germination:
-September 18 PM: I pre-soaked the freebie seed overnight in a glass of bottled spring water left in dark room at room temperature for 10 hours. I was recommended to soak for 14-18 hours but I was coming off night shift and didn’t want to drown the seed while I slept.
-September 19 AM: I used the paper towel method left uncovered on ceramic plate and moved plate to a warmer room. Sprinkled with more bottled spring water as needed to keep paper evenly damp with no excess.
-September 20 AM: Seed cracked after 24 hours
-September 20 PM: Germinated with visible tail after 36 hours.
-September 21 AM: After 48 hours in paper towel the tap root is ready to plant!
-September 21 noon: Planted the seed centred into a 6” pot of pre-moistened Jiffy Seedling mix (because that’s what I had available) and placed the pot back into the warm room with natural light.
-September 21 PM: put the pot into a tent until I come up with a plan for it. Cool/veg setting 24/0
-September 23 AM: I can see her neck poking through the soil :)
This was an unplanned grow and I have nowhere to put this plant! I’m going to need to build a grow box for it 😅 I need a mother box anyway so hopefully this will motivate me to build. Or maybe I will be lazy and do something half-assed. I’ve never grown an auto before either. Should be a fun experiment.
Seed was viable and germination was fast. Outlook is positive.
Found it hard to raise the humidity in the tent but seedling was to be doing fine with occasional misting. Using filtered tap water and pH adjusting with citric acid. I gave her a light feeding at the end of the week because she’s in a sterile seedling mix but I overwatered the entire nursery in the process. Trying to figure out how much water she needs in this size pot with this medium. I’ve always been terrible with indoor seedlings
Switched lights to 20/4. I overwatered last week and still waiting for soil to dry out a bit before watering again. I will do same low dose feed as last week.
This seedling is growing the fastest out of all the seeds I started. I think it’s because she’s in a fast draining seedling mix and I’ve been overwatering everything. She looks happy 😊
Day 17 update: She’s now getting 25ml of water a day and she’s 6cm. I’m feeding full calmag and half growth dose. Added an oscillating fan to the tent yesterday to make her vibrate. Kinda wish I planted her in a bigger pot now but I’m going to leave her alone and see what she can do.
Well she’s looking good and still growing faster than the rest of my experiments. I’m thinking it’s because she’s in the fastest draining mix and I’m heavy with watering. I decided because she’s growing strong to try some fimming and I pinched back the top growth. I’m not concerned about yield, she’s in a smallish pot so this is just for curiosity. I wonder how she will recover?
I mixed the nutrients listed above as recommended for this stage but then decided to dilute again by 50% and monitor how she does.
Day 23 and she’s recovering well from her fimming adventure AND she smells lovely and weedy 🤤 think I might have actually fucked up and missed my FIM attempt but at least it doesn’t seem to have bothered her in anyway.
Day 25 the FIM made no impact other than shave some fingers so I pinched out the tip again. And that’s all I’m doing with her.
Day 26 the top was successful and she’s got 2 tops now! Hopefully didn’t set her back too much. Her roots are filling the pot. I don’t dare transplant her now but will have to be careful with feeding.
Day 28: Topping didn’t slow her down thankfully but she’s soon to be limited by her pot size. I like the way she’s growing for me. Flushed her and then gave pre flower feed because I’m sure she’s close.
Day 30: Pistils! she’s showing sex and we have moved along to flowering 💐 she’s stretching too, 3in in 2 days and every branch in good position for light penetration. I only tucked one fan leaf to expose a bud site.
She continued stretching last week, 20 inches tall now and buds developing everywhere. Scent is a little stronger and I’m seeing the trichs starting to show up around the top buds. She’s drinking 750mls a day (all her pot can hold). Might have to increase watering to twice a day soon but will continue monitoring. I had an oopsie and had to wire 2 of her branches last week after I carelessly knocked them loose from the main stem. They are still alive so they seem to be attached enough to draw sap. Still wishing I’d gone with a bigger pot because I’m so happy with her but we learn!

Temps are swinging a little now that the central heating is on. VPD staying in range. Will probably have to set up the dehumidifier soon though because rh is staying around 50%.
I’m watering twice per day with Indo nutrients and I like that I only have to work with 3 bottles instead of needing all sorts all the boosters and micros. It’s still storming here and I’m collecting the rainwater for her feeds.
She’s starting to show a little frosting and her flowers are growing but she has 3-4 weeks left to finish. Added another 2in in height too.

Flowers are still bulking up. She’s drinking about a litre a day still, getting plain water every 2nd feed so I’m not over doing the feeding. I managed to get temperature/humidity regulated now that the heating has been in a couple weeks and we are out of the storm it’s not swinging so much. According to breeders timeline she has 2-4 weeks left. Nothing much happening but maintaining the environment and monitoring water intake.

She’s a bit foxtailling from the light intensity and I love it. Reduced lights to 12/12, plain water, defoliated and ready to chop in a couple days. Will wait for her to drink up one last time.

I lost an embarrassingly long smoke report with updates right through cure all to say l was blessed with a magic bean. And I’m undeserving of the quality and quantity this seed produced. I bonded with this plant when she peaked ripeness and stopped drinking and I’m stoked with my stash but I’m too stoned to rewrite about how really good this weed is. It is really good weed but it’s going to make a glorious craft hash worthy of meticulous cleaning and pressing and aging to preserve her magic fragrance. I grow for concentrates but this is the first time I grew flowers that belong in the smoke jar. This is quality.

Just finished trimming and jarring and total weight of flower was 98g plus another 100g bag of very frosty trim and smalls. Currently curing at 64%rh / 68f. I can’t wait to smoke. She was my favourite plant of the grow and I stressed her out with such a tiny pot, infrequent watering and lots of light stress. Had her praying for mercy and she was generous with 3.5oz of sticky goodness.. those 1/4oz tops.. all that frosty trim for oil.. plus 1.75g of kief caught by the trim bin.. plus 8 seeds!!! She’s all pluses +++++++++
Not bad! I was not expecting this to happen to me. I was a skeptic. I knew she’d be worth it but I was expecting only 10g of goodness if she survived at all. This is my first grow indoor and going all in with a tent. She completely out performed the main experiments in the smallest pot. I hope she smokes as good as smells 😋 I just want to lick that sticky. I’m high just being in her presence. I think I met the real Mary Jane. Fingers crossed for the cure.
