Start of another growth cycle; this time, made sure everything was set up and working perfectly before the grow. This time, I have two Banana Purple punch plants and two random plants from the mix bad selection from Fast Buds. As usual, they sprouted quickly apart from one in which I used another BPP seed; you can see it has not risen yet.
Plants coming on well, although one of the BPP is a late starter and still small compared to the others. Increased lights to 50% and added CANNAZYM to the grow mix.
This week, I moved the lights 50cm from the plant tops and increased the light intensity to 75%; the tent was getting hot, so I added a fan and increased the extraction fan to pull more air through the tent. The plants are still young and not pulling much water or nutrients. I also stabilised the PH. The BPP I planted last is taking its time; roots have not yet reached the solution in the bucket. I noticed in the week that a few plants suffered a bit of heat/light burn. Hence moving lights and increasing airflow.
I decided to renew nutrients and water completely, even though very close to the flowering stage, and I'll have to do that again. Some leaves were showing signs of nutrient deficiency.
Started to trim and firm 3 of the plants. The BBP2 is still the runt, and I'm not holding out much hope for it in the long run. Mix 1 is starting to look more normal also.
This week was a bit of a mission; I started the week with a very acidic nutrient mix, which had to be rectified quickly. You can see in a few photos where the leaves are yellow and burnt, caused by the wrong PH. Later in the week, I started to tie the branches down to get more light in and around the plants. I've put pictures up of prior tieing down the branches after tie down and yesterday, where you will see the plants have had a growth spurt, apart from the poor little runt of a BBP.
Next week, I'll flush out the system and change nutrients for flowering.
What a difference a week makes. The three main plants are a Bannan Purple punch and two other mixed seeds that I now think are Sativa dominant. Even the little BPP runt has started to grow quicker, which I'm still going to keep just out of interest, and besides, it's too late to put another seed into the tent. They are getting thirsty and drinking around the 5ltr a day mark.
With the start of flowering, I decided to give them all a once-over trim, which was quite brutal. There are so many bud sites, and the majority of them can now see the lights
As always, after a trim, I always think, have I deforested them too much? The worst that can happen is a slight decrease in the crop if I've got it wrong BUT a massive increase in bud if I got it right. So worth the risk.
With flowers shooting up everywhere I've switched over to the CANNA Aqua Flores mix for nutrients and increased the light's intensity to 100%.
What a week; after last week's brutal defoliation, you would have thought I had not touched them. The tent is now crammed with flowers and leaves. I have been considering doing another defoliation, but I will make a call next weekend. I noticed a bit of decolouring in a few leaves, so I checked the PH and have had to bring it back up to the 6.2 mark from 5.7. The PH seems to be an issue with this grow, and II will have to monitor it from now on closely. The nutrient mix will stay the same for the next couple of weeks. I've had to put the lights higher as the two sativa plants at the back are getting rather tall even after firming, and Mix Two has multiple main flowering sites (I am excited about this one).
Even the little BPP runt shows signs of trying with brand new branches and flower sites.
Just a little trim today for the BPP, nothing major. They have finished the big stretch, as the buds are developing fast. I am very pleased with Mix Two, as the firming process has produced so many main bud sites. I have kept the same nutrient mix, and as the plants are quite thirsty, keeping levels has been a breeze. The smell is getting stronger so increased the extractor fan to keep it to a minimum.
The grow is going well. The only change for this week is the addition of CANNA PK 13/14 to the mix to help the buds fatten up. I'll be flushing in a few weeks and harvesting fairly soon after that. I am getting prepped for the harvest and drying process and have just bought a hanging dry tent with a carbon filter and fan from Gorilla. And put an order in for the glass jars.
The buds look good and smell strong; Mix Two has some monster buds growing. I'm still trying to determine its variety, but I'm leaning towards a Bruce Banner. Looking at the grow overall next week, I will drop the PK13/14 out of the mix, and I'm thinking maybe the week after I start the flush. I've put up a little fly-through video to get a better idea of the grow.
Started to flush the plants with water a day ago, and planning on harvesting on Wednesday, the leaves are starting to yellow so that is a good sign. I will update once I've harvested.
It's been a fairly easy grow, however, one of the BPPs didn't develop as well, and ended up being the tightest and most solid of plant buds. I've separated the top bud of this one for my pleasure once it has dried and cured. The total wet harvest is 2510 grams.
The two plants from the mixed seeds were quite impressive in the amount they produced. I believe Mix Two to be "Bruce Banner" and that was the monster grow. The other Mix One is a bit wispy and I noticed the onset of bud rot when harvesting. This was probably due to the amount of air circulation and is something I will address next time and not the quality of the seeds.
OK after drying and a quick cure so I could at least try the end product.
The Bruce Banner produced 291 grams dry and is quite a lost type of doing stuff high.
The other Mix Sead gave 106 grams dry and this is a real smiling type high.
These two took me the best part of 5 hours to trim and prep for the drying tent, Mix One was showing signs of bud rot but still salvaged 660 grams of wet bud, and the other Mix Two was a monster, and believe it to be the "Bruce Banner" strain. Overall a great harvest, now I just have to wait patiently for everything to dry out for the curing jars.
@OSGoldskoolgrower, Thank you. I see you have a nice grow going, and it's funny you mention that, as I was thinking the Mix One in the back might be a Zkittlez Auto.
@BudBoutique, Thank you. Now they are in flower, I've realised this is one of my best grows ever. Shame about the little Purple Punch Auto runt; if that had grown like the rest, there would be zero space left in the tent. Another week, and I'll add some CANNA PK 13/14. Hopefully, if the timing is right, there will be some nice big buds at the end.
@Growingwithjase, my first grow using DWC, even with all my mistakes, gave me a bigger crop than I've ever had with soil. So glad I moved to this method.
