First germination did not sprout, The germination went well but was done indoors with the paper towel method, a small tap root had sprouted and when I placed the seed outside I think the sudden heat from the sun and maybe not enough moisture in the soil caused her tap root to dry out.
Not sure what happened but I think I chose the wrong time to place her in the soil being a little impatient.
It is not President Seeds fault, their genetics are pretty solid and I've been very happy growing their strains.
Sometimes it's the growers fault which this is only my second outdoor grow and my first indoor grow (the President 47's or AK47's from President Seeds)
2nd Gelato has successfully sprouted and welcomed to the world! She has a long journey ahead which I'm excited to see her through!
The Gelato seed #2 finally sprouted!, she had some odd colour in the start but that cleared out very quickly and she was back to full green and looking great.
I have not been feeding any nutrients yet, just plain dechlorinated borehole water that has been pH lowered to 5.8.
Had a crazy bit of wind on the weekend, woke up to the clones I placed outside all blown over, some completely ripped out of their pots!
I dont know how long they were like that for, but at least the weather was cooler that day and they seem to be okay for the most part.
Other than that, it has been a successful week with getting this girl to sprout and ready for the outdoor season, cant wait to see her grow all big and beautiful!
Happy Growing!
Week 2 of Veg for the little Gelato.
Weekend ended off overcast and windy but the sun is back in full gear today.
The little cups i'm using are drying out in about a day so i'm watering almost every day, just dechlorinated water for now.
Next week i may start introducing a very very light feed with Bud Juice TNT (Total Nutrient Transfusion). Seedlings use 0.5ml/L which i may half to 0.25ml/L.
I can smell Guano in the bud juice, i have had bad experience with using guano too early and the nitrogen causing the roots to burn to a crisp so im going to be extra careful.
Have not had any complaints with these nutrients yet, especially the Bud Juice Boom Bloom & Bud Juice Symbionics Supplement that im using in the indoor AK47 grow, as the two girls are doing extremely well with both nutrients being fed once a week.
Still a long and exciting road ahead! I'm especially excited to see the AK clones grown outdoors VS indoors, as well as later on i'll grab a few Gelato clones to be grown indoors as well.
Interested to see for myself whether bag appeal indoor bud differs in terpenes to sun-grown bud.
Garden is getting attacked by snails. I had an entire 1kg bag of diatomaceous earth which i sprinkled around the box with the clones and the Gelato, and a light sprinkle over the leaves incase any critters decide to hang around on them. Not really sure how effective DE is against snails though, so far havent found any eating my girls.
The wind has not been very nice to the Gelato, had to put her under a cover to shield her from it, the clones were also starting to get thrown around and their roots were getting extremely long so decided to plant them into larger pots.
I was worried the wind was going to rip them right out! thankfully they seem to be holding out okay.
Started feeding very light doses of Bud Juice TNT to the Gelato, will continue to do so for the next few weeks once a week.
Light feeding with Veg nutrients this week. The Gelato is having some days with hot sunny bright warm weather and some days with overcast windy weather.
Updated 07.11.23
Snails are eating my girls! I HATE snails! I moved the planter box to an area with more sunlight through the day but forgot that snails are everywhere at night, Tuesday morning I found my Gelato eaten, nearly the entire leaves..
I placed again diatomaceous earth around the planter box and all over the gelato as well as inside the pot as well as on the outside of the pot, making sure that not a single snail gets anywhere near my plants! Only 1 thing I hate more than mites.
Otherwise, she's doing fine. Still plenty of leaves to photosynthesize.
Added CalMag 5g/5L diluted, along with TNT Bud Juice and Molasses & Amino Acids from Bud Juice in a very light dosage.
Nutrients being increased to 1ml/L for veg. Using Bud Juice nutes, TNT and Symbionics.
No snails since using the diatomaceous earth. This stuff works wonders! Found many slugs along the edge of the powder but never crossing it, some get close and turn away immediately.
Clones have stayed flowering, not having any high expectations for them re-vegging. I don't think it would be a good thing at this point, they would probably develop undesirable mutations.
The Gelato is doing very well, she has a very strong and thick stem. Her leaves are insanely huge, she looks 1000% indica but is actually a even 55%/45%.
The nutrients I'm using are fantastic! Definitely will be using Bud Juice in future grows. No burns, no deficiencies, just pure healthy growth!
Still feeding a low dosage veg feed, not at full strength yet. The growth is really taking off though, I may start increased feeds soon.
Been all sun and zero wind these last few days. Hopefully it will stay like that
After some rainy days, there were many snails but luckily the diatomaceous earth works well.
The Gelato has taken well to the topping last week. Side shoots have grown out well and are already so thick!
The stems are all so healthy and green, I'm really enjoying these nutrients from Bud Juice. Being grown in coco buffered with CalMag. I do add CalMag as a fertilizer occasionally.
Decided I'm going to start training the long lanky branches of the Gelato, to really try and max out potential in veg I super cropped her right down as close to the base as possible and LSTd the branches into open space, she is very vascular and the stems feel like they can be snapped really easily if given enough force.
To prevent and infections and possibly speed up healing on the super cropped stem, I covered the split open sides with antibacterial rooting gel and some lightly covered tape. She should be good to go in a week to 2 weeks.
The AK Clones I've decided to leave outside, was thinking of what to do with them because I was not seeing any vegging. But noticed single-bladed leaves are starting on some with really strange growth which is indicative of re-vegging. So will carry on caring and feeding as I would normally.
Been many wet and rainy days this week which has made her a little droopy but otherwise she is doing well after the LST and super-cropping.
Snails are becoming a pain again since the rain is clearing up the diatomaceous earth. The DE for the most part is unaffected by rain and the powder stays in place after many rain pours but it can clear up enough over time.
I'm going to need much more DE.
Trying to decide how im going to train her further. I don't have any sort of scrog netting or tomato cage to put around her which i may need to look at getting to help with opening her up.
I woke up Wednesday morning to find 4 branches snapped in the wind. I got tape and antibacterial rooting gel and started fixing them. She bounced back a little by today (Saturday morning).. won't need to worry about LST now for a while
What a crazy windy and stressful week this was..
The gelato outside was just beaten to the floor, and this usually happened during the day when i'm at work so it's tough to maintain the conditions.
Sometime ill make the effort to try and get home for lunch to pop in and see how things are going, usually not too well and im starting to realize i need supports for the future..
4 branches in total have been damaged of which 2 have been removed and used for clones. I will start a clone diary maybe of the first 2 clones as they have rooted and been planted in the tent alongside the autos.
of the two branches, i took a bunch from the second and only 2 clones from the 1st branch.
First 2 clones taken from the first branch were about a week before the second clones were taken, the first branch snapped off earlier.
The second branch was already damaged, but i tried to salavage and let it heal but the wind would prove to be a challenge and soon found the 2nd branch hanging by a thread so she was cut off. there came about 7 clones from that branch.
This week for stress i decided a full dosage feed, and added the last of my liquid gold living microbes because why not.
Other than wind the days have been perfect. Cape Town has some weird weather patterns, we can literally have all 4 seasons in a week, never makes up it's mind what season to be in...
Pre-flower also showed up this week, kinda feel like its a little early but i could be wrong lol. She has been in veg for 3 months so perhaps not?
im going to continue the veg nutes till the month end untill i decide to start switching to bloom. of course id need to flush her first.
The wind here is still crazy but she is doing really well considering all the damages.
Slowly the season is coming to an end and she will jump into flower soon.
Will be maintaining the same veg feed as last week.
Defoliation this week to open up covered sites, I dont think any LST is needed since all the branches broke in the wind.
Not much to say except that she is doing better and the wind is annoying me more than anything.
This week we begin their bloom potassium focused feed with Boom Bloom as well as the symbionics fermented molasses and amino acids.
Not a full strength feed, but not a low dosage either.
I am flushing her as well with 20L of natural borehole water.
There are more pistils forming, looks like she's getting ready to go into flower so im pretty excited for the coming weeks seeing them develop.
Removed some larger leaves to open up covered bud sites, she never got that big but there is plenty of bud sites and potential for a massive yield from her.
There are more pistils now and looks like pre-flower has ended and she is now going into flower.
This week will still be a bloom feed. not at full strength.
I did some defoliation to open her up a little and get some light hitting more tops.
She has some very thick branches so im hoping thats a good sign that the yield would be large.
She was flushed before the bloom feed started last week and im not adding CalMag anymore as directed to only feed in veg.
I want to train the branches more but she has been through so much stress related to the wind and im just worried that there is too much tension on a branch after training them and the wind just helps break it.
Pistils are forming nicely now. Did some minor defoliation to expose some bud sites that were covered.
Wind has calmed down and there hasn't been any worries recently with more damages.
I haven't increased the nutes yet, when I start seeing vigorous flowering I'll increase dosage.
I was extremely busy last week this work and did not get the time to post the weeks updates.
This is the update for week of 15th - 19th Jan.
I'm starting to think i assumed she was out of pre-flower but seeing how slow the flowering is happening, im guessing i should have waited a week or two.
Because she is flowering a little more this week (next week)
I did not do any training, fed she the usual lower dosage bloom feed. I am watering practically every day 5L, the sun is CRAZY hot, like we are having a heat wave.
But she is doing well! im happy with her and things are moving along nicely
I see more flower developing, i think, things move along so slowly and all of a sudden they change lol. Im sure im seeing more vigorous flower development now.
Will not increase the dosage until she is really showing flower production. Should be soon within the coming days.
The heat has been insane these past few days, im certain there is a heat wave coming through, and so ive been having to water every day about 5L. Nothing wrong with a little more watering than usual.
She has been growing super well and im excited to see her flower
Hallo, viel Glück mit dieser Sorte. Erst habe ich mich über den Namen aufgeregt, aber🤩 President Seeds die haben ne LILA MERKEL .😁😄😆 Unter anderem. Alles gut.
@KingSalomonsWeed, hey thanks buddy! Yeah I'm not that happy about the name either, but I'm a real fan of the GSC genetics😁 I plan to do some autoflowers soon, maybe I'll add Merkel to the mix hehe. Been really happy with President Seeds genetics so far💪
@@resimax,
Thanks so much!
Yeah, I did not keep the humidity high with a glass cover or anything. But the second seed used a small glass with a few squirts of water and after 4 days she sprouted. :)
My mistake on the first seed but lesson learnt.
@SouthernIndica, excellent, congratulations!!! Germination likes heat and humidity. The heat was ok, but keep it moist throughout the day (not soaking wet). Placing a glass jar over the sowed seed helps keep the humidity in. Good luck and enjoy!
@@resimax,
Thanks bud! First seed I germinated indoors with the paper towel method and went well but was a little impatient and placed the seed outside in the heat of the sun which seems to have dried the tap root out.
2nd seed sprouted successfully! germinated directly in coco outside. Excited to grow this little girl out :)
Wow! What beautiful girls you have. I am so happy with you plants recovery from the snails. Good preventative measures. Can't wait for next weeks check-in! Happy growing and all the best x
Whaaaat thats a tree LoL Huuuuuuge plant you will need chainsaw to cut it!!
